Summary/Abstract: If oblivion is the inevitable, so to speak foretold fate of every human work, then its framing with prohibitions shows how vulnerable it is to the pressure of imposed norms and dogmas in its social environment. It is between the reconstruction of realities from the author's surroundings - from Boris Aprilov's socio-cultural context - and the absurdist symbolism of the works that the history of the texts and their denied access to publication will be traced. The socio-political context proved a brake on the reception of this peculiarly experimental work, denying it recognition and leaving lacunae in the literary canon.Based on the editions and the author's archive, cases of delayed or rejected publication of Aprilov’s works are pointed out. The history of the text is traced in more detail, and the actual prototypes and symbolism of three works are examined: the play The Thousand and Second, which remained in manuscript until the author's death, and two delayed for publication novels: Overkill by fourteen years and The Great Vanity by eleven years. All three works center on the theme of creative self-consciousness and the creative act.
