Summary/Abstract: Innovation is increasingly becoming a determinant of organizational and regio- nal development. It is a complex notion embracing various processes in the area of social and economic development as well as the activities of enterprises, regional policy makers and the development of R&D sector. The complexity of the described notion makes its measurement potentially difficult. The measurement is also subject to numerous limitations which often arise from data accessibility. Therefore, the right choice of available variables seems to be significant in that context. The main aim of this article is to develop a classification of voivodeships according to their innovation level. The aim has been achieved through conducting an analysis of the influence of variable selection methods on research results. With respect to that choice, object classification has been carried out, emphasizing changes occurring in the results of the classification with consideration of different variable selection methods.
