Summary/Abstract: Conventionally, in their poetic dialogue with the Divinity, Tudor Arghezi (direct, acid and insolent) is perceived as a poet torn between faith and doubt for a God that obstinately refuses to show himself, whereas Vasile Voiculescu (warm, mellow and bitter in his suffering) is known as a traditionalist orthodox poet who writes religious poems. In fact, both poets are caught in an inner struggle with their own doubts, driven by their love for an ever absent God. Oscillating between adoration and rejection, their poetry conveys a very powerful message. Their tormented monologues, be they hymns, prayers or war declarations, speak about continuous search, pain and courageous mutiny, but also about their untainted love for that mute absentee deity.
