Summary/Abstract: Ten years after the beginning of the new millennium, the world faces the economic recession, a process with enormous implications in all aspects of life. The crisis strikes all the fields, including science, and literature makes no exception. The paper aims at analyzing the destiny of this type of refined art in the context of globalization and glocalization, once food for gods, nowadays unreachable for mere mortals, and the reasons which made this inadequacy possible. In the age of Internet, the long road traveled by literature may have come to its limits, as the work of writing is almost suffocated by’il mestiere di vivere.´. Consequently, at the end of this analysis, one can doubt the fact that in a few decades we can still utter the famous words: Literature has died! Long live literature!
