Summary/Abstract: The EU action environmental program for sustainability underlined that local authorities have a special role in sustainable development and in achieving subsidiary development. According to Local Agenda 21 a local agenda for Arad City was set up with the help of the UN Program for Development. The present paper deals mainly with the question of waste as part of the sustainable development of the area.
