Summary/Abstract: Sustainable development strategies include as an important part waste management and its quality. The most important dangerous effects of the bad management of solid municipal waste are air pollution and underground water pollution. Finally these have a direct or indirect impact on population health. In the studied area, that of Arad municipality, there are very important underground water resources that are used for drink and industrial water supply. Analyses of underground water samples taken round waste deposits demonstrate pollution by presence of organic substances, nitrates, ammonia, and also of pathogenic germs, even in case of deposits that already are closed. Therefore emptying the old waste deposits is a need and a suitable waste management is compulsory. Both are future objectives of the municipality and this is an example of managerial acts for a sustainable development.
