PRAGMATIC STRUCTURES IN "THE MOST BELOVED OF EARTHLINGS"

Summary/Abstract: Pragmatics is concerned with the study of deictics, conversational implications, presuppositions, acts of language, discourse structure. The notion of context is very important for pragmatics and it is constituted by the set of elements from the extralinguistic reality associated with the production of a statement. A pragmatic concept is deixis that designates the connection between word and context. In the novel The Most Beloved of Earthlings, we distinguish all six known types of deixis: personal, temporal, spatial, social, textual and descriptive.
