Summary/Abstract: Autism spectrum disorders are characterized by significant deficits in social communication, as well as limited behavioral patterns and interests. Modern therapeutic approaches aimed at overcoming these deficits include various psychosocial and behavioral therapies. In addition, there are various types of alternative treatments and the evidence to support them is still limited. The effectiveness of a therapeutic approach, resp. intervention, is determined by reviewing scientific publications and evidence presented from studies conducted in peer-review journals. The article discusses the therapeutic interventions with proven benefits and a distinction is made between the so-called non-biological and biological therapies by reviewing studies from prestigious scientific organizations such as Cochrane Collaboration and The National Professional Development Center on Autism Spectrum Disorder in the United States.
