Summary/Abstract: Autism spectrum disorders can become a stigma or a discriminatory characteristic. This discrimination applies not only to children with autism, but also to their families. On the one hand, children suffer from the limitations of autism, and on the other hand, they and their families are provoked by stereotypes and prejudices that result from misunderstandings and misunderstandings about autism spectrum disorders in society. The article addresses two main topics: stigma and parental stress in raising a child with autism and offers a description of stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination observed in personal, family and social contexts. The possibilities for overcoming the stigma and application of the family-oriented approach in working with parents of a child with autism are discussed.
