Summary/Abstract: Carol Rama is probably one of the most interesting artists of the twentieth century, living and working in Turin, where her artistic career spans for more than seven decades. Although six years have passed since her death, much of her professional biography is still unclear, and this process is hindered by lack of documentation. This is due to her biographical characteristics, which could be described as “strange”. The biographical narrative used by the press and art critics often switches between two opposite extremes – at times she is described as marginalized and scandalous, while in other cases, she is referred to as an “icon” of the avant-garde art. These tendencies are reflected in the state of analysis of her work, which insists on her biographical image as being an artist, excluded from the historical art narrative of the second half of the 20th c. Introducing an enigmatic element related to a brief story in Carol Rama’s biography, this text aims to try to shake up the established clichés about her marginalisation, and to show the opposite point of view towards her biography – as an artist inscribed in the contemporary art history.
