Summary/Abstract: Two of the most radical and significant female artists of the twentieth century – Louise Bourgeois and Carol Rama, are introduced through a comparative perspective, the aim of which is to emphasise common characteristics in their oeuvre. On the one hand, the task of this text is to study the numerous similarities between both artists in terms of their biographical stories and visual poetics, which come to the fore even by initial comparison. On the other hand, I will build upon these characteristics in order to show that they are due to the ability to transform the biographical (limit) experience into artistic experience and, therefore, into visual images. Furthermore, the paper formulates a more general research question related to the mechanisms of inclusion / exclusion of women artists in the art historical narrative.
