Summary/Abstract: Starting from the observation that there have been certain recurrences/patterns in the relations between the state and religious denominations and between the Romanian Orthodox Church (ROC) and religious denominations in Romania, respectively, during the 20th and 21st centuries, I considered it important to explore the origin of these relations. To this end, I have analysed the condition of religious denominations in the first decade following the establishment of the communist regime in Romania, highlighting the state of the ROC and the Greek-Catholic Church. The distinctiveness of the approach that I propose stems from the analysis of the ROC in terms of the interest group theory, typical of political science. I believe that the current paper sheds further light on the relation between the state and religious denominations and, respectively, between the ROC and religious minorities in Romania.
