Summary/Abstract: Inspired by Alexandru Ciorănescu’s autobiography recently published by Mircea Anghelescu (Bucharest, Spandugino, 2019), these few lines sketch a portrait of the eminent Romanian historian and philologist that spent most of hislife in exile. Alexandru Ciorănescu’s memories revive a series of encounters with places (Venice, Paris, Simancas), with ideas and with people (first and foremost N. Iorga, Ciorănescu’s professor and protector).
