Summary/Abstract: Pelbartus of Themeswar (1430/40-1504), a Franciscan monk who was teaching theology in Buda, is one of the most famous preachers of the Catholic Church and also the most successful Hungarian writer abroad, as his works has been published in ninety editions before 1526.The aim of this paper is to offer a brief introduction to his works that are being kept in the Teleki-Bolyai Library. Most of Pelbartus’ works are collections of sermons, written in order to help clerics in their pastoral work. The central ideas of his texts are asceticism and the virtues of the Middle Ages, scholasticism against the renaissance spirit of King Matthias’s court.
