Defence mechanisms in dream

Summary/Abstract: Analysis of defense mechanisms is indispensable for many psychotherapeutic approaches. On its basis, it might be considered the structure or maturity of personality or determination of appropriate psychotherapeutic procedure. According to the current knowledge about the theory of dreaming, defense mechanisms are possible to be also recognized in dreams there through opening the way for further insight into the emotional experience of the client. Presented contribution yields dream demonstrations in which we may identify particular defense mechanisms in accordance with the current knowledge of dreaming. The publication introduces the following defense mechanisms in dream demonstrations: isolation of affect, turning against the self, denial, suppression, reaction formation, anticipation, rationalization, repression, intellectualization.
