Summary/Abstract: The mirror, frequently present in literature, traces, through its generic semantics, the border between the real and the illusory. In Colette's prose, it acquires a special symbolism and it functions as a semantic vehicle. The mirror becomes an element that triggers introspection, a subtle reason for re-evaluating female and male characters. At the same time, the mirror can be considered the object that delimits true identity hierarchies.
