The Elaboration of an Inventory of Evaluation of the Quality of Usage of an Academic Establishment

The Elaboration of an Inventory of Evaluation of the Quality of Usage of an Academic Establishment

Author(s): Dalel Bouzid,Liliane Rioux / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

The Social Responsibility of the University (SRU) was born out of a wish of the European Higher-Education Area (EHEA) to build an European space of education. From this perspective, the universities become straightforward urban actors integrated in the urban area where they are implemented. Our research aims to elaborate an inventory of the quality of usage of an academic establishment. To this end, five studies were conducted in four French universities in order to design a tool composed of 97 items in which the intra and inter-judge reliability is completely satisfactory. Even though intercultural validation analyses prove to be necessary, this evaluation inventory of the quality of usage of an academic establishment seems to be adaptable at European level.

The results suggest that the Need for Cognition Scale – the short form has good psychometric properties after its translation into Romanian. Alfa Cronbach coefficients showed high reliability and confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the original unidimensional structure of the scale. The present study highlighted the consistency and the validity of the scale, which is an argument for its future use in Romanian settings.

Towards a Symbiosis Human/Technology/Organisation. The Case of Bank Employees in Gabon

Towards a Symbiosis Human/Technology/Organisation. The Case of Bank Employees in Gabon

Author(s): Kader Inagnibomoua / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

This article analyses the reports that the bank employees in Gabon have with IT&C. More precisely, it is based on the symbiotic approach of Braniger (2002) which states that our uses and practises at work are transformed with the evolution of IT&C. The research that we have conducted shows that there is an optimisation of the symbiosis on two levels: usability and technology. In contrast, functionality remains a feeble point at the level of man and of the organisational context. We could ask ourselves if it is necessary that supplementary efforts be made concerning the quality of internal and external recruitment, and at the level of training programmes inside factories and in general learning, in order to improve the level of knowledge and competence of the employees.

Exploring Consumer Experiences as Rites of Passage

Exploring Consumer Experiences as Rites of Passage

Author(s): Alina Coman / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

Conceptualising consumer experience as a rite of passage holds the potential for designing products entailing stronger attachment. We integrate theoretical perspectives from three disparate research areas: sociological theories of rituals, models of consumer’s rituals and those on the value of objects for the sense of self, to explore the ritual types and objects which consumers engage in throughout they key life transitions. We report on secondary data analysis of six qualitative studies on consumer’s rites of passage. Our contributions include an initial framework integrating the lifecycle perspective with the typology of consumer’s rituals and objects, and implications to better support consumer’s experience in rites of passage.

Responsible Consumer Facing Social Constraints, Corporate Strategies and Individual Choices

Responsible Consumer Facing Social Constraints, Corporate Strategies and Individual Choices

Author(s): Maria-Ana Georgescu / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

The aim of this paper is to understand consumers’ behavior and to reveal the multiple motivations of buying goods. There are multiple types of consumers, but our interest is for those socially responsible. As consumers are not currently embracing the nexus of social responsibility, they have to be educated to understand the importance of the social aspects of their consumption, as component of strategic thinking. We do not agree the individualization of consumption’ social responsibility and we proclaim the need of structural social measures, of macrosocial changes.

Ethical Instruments for the Development of the Social Responsibility of the Business Operators in Romania

Author(s): Laura Mureşan Potincu / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

Starting from the provisions of standard ISO26000 regarding social responsibility together with results of a quantitative research performed in 2015, it can be concluded that the public institutions are outside the range of a normal behaviour regarding their relation to the several categories of stakeholders, including the legal entities, i.e. the business operators. Ethical Implications in the Commercial Activity of the Development of Social Responsibility of the Public Institutions

Author(s): C.R. Potincu,Laura Mureşan Potincu,V. Marascu-Klein / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

Adopting a socially responsible behaviour by the Romanian public institutions or other European Union member states can have positive effects on their relation to the external stakeholders, to the internal stakeholders, however a socially responsible management in the case of the public institutions can be also an example regarding the adoption of a socially responsible behaviour for the private business operators. Modifying the legislation regulating the activity of several public institutions - together with the support of the public institutions management - for the implementation of the social responsibility requirements shall also have a positive effect on the commercial activity performed by the private business operators on the Romanian market.

Actors of Public Space and Rising Stars

Author(s): Elena-Lidia Dinu (Stan) / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

We wish to investigate the role of actors in public space and stars, with specific reference to the Romanian media system. In particular, we mean to analyze the way in which they have become more and more visible in people’s everyday life and why we consider them to play a dominant role in the media – especially on TV – as the reports about their private life hold a central place in the news coverage. This article also provides an overview of the institutional background as it reviews the related literature and develops new research questions.

A Linguistic Approach to Management Research: Leadership in Intercultural English Meetings in Asia

A Linguistic Approach to Management Research: Leadership in Intercultural English Meetings in Asia

Author(s): B. Du-Babcock,H. Tanaka / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

A focus on language based on empirical research and field practices in management and organizational research has already been advocated (Alvesson & Karreman, 2000). However, only a handful of management and organizational studies have demonstrated reflective ways to investigate language usage in day-to-day managerial interaction. Accessibility to empirical business interaction data limits opportunities for researchers to explore any detailed examination of language and management. This article suggests simulated discussion as a way to overcome these limitations. It shows an example of a linguistic research approach using mixed quantitative and qualitative methods to understand one aspect of managerial behavior - leadership - in simulated decisionmaking interaction.

Furthermore, it was investigated how such types of teaching influence Japanese students’ perception of English, their target language. One topic of controversy is whether or not Japanese junior high or high school teachers should teach English in the medium of English. For collecting data were employed research techniques such as participatory observation, video recording, and informal interview to collect related data from the one junior high school student, and also from the Meisei University students and international volunteers who managed the English classes

Kitsch as Aesthetic Recuperation

Kitsch as Aesthetic Recuperation

Author(s): Andreea Ivan / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

The case study provided by the analysis of Daniela Zeca’s Oriental Trilogy novels reveals the enterprise professional literary critics embark upon when they convert a short-term bestseller into a long-term bestseller, namely into a classic book. It therefore becomes evident that there exist the kitsch of a literary work and the kitsch of its critical reception. Literary critics, regarded as actors with a significant role in the production of a work of art, are responsible for the propagation of kitsch, the ethical evil, when they deceit their audience.

The Licenced Psychologist as Public Servant from the Perspective of Criminal Law

The Licenced Psychologist as Public Servant from the Perspective of Criminal Law

Author(s): Adrian Aldea / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

The Penal Code in force has introduced a number of changes regarding the active subject of corruption offenses by defining the public servant in a different manner in comparison to previous criminal code and by disclaiming the legal definition of the “clerk” notion. However, judicial practice faces difficulties in recognition of the categories of individuals that may be considered public servants, related analyses being made based on the circumstances of each particular case. Within this article I will approach the quality of public servant for the free practice psychologist, when performing works of assessment for the psychological capacity of the individuals preparing to obtain the driving license within a driving school.

The crimes characteristic to the cyber world are a serious criminal phenomenon due to the ease in camouflaging the offense, but also the cross-border character through the Internet environment. The interest to criminalize the offenses committed by computer means, as well as the offenses committed on information systems is justified in the contemporary society by the unprecedented development of information technologies that extend gradually in all fields, from industry to medicine, from e-commerce and internet banking to data management platforms used by the administrations and public institutions. The paper addresses the issue of criminalizing the illegal use of a communications terminal as a prerequisite for committing cyber crimes.

The Institution of Guardianship

The Institution of Guardianship

Author(s): Roxana Matefi / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

The present paper contains an analysis of the institution of guardianship, one of great importance in the context of the legal ways of protecting the minor’s interest both form the personal and patrimonial point of view. In comparison with the parental authority, which represents the general rule of protecting the minor’s interest, guardianship is seen as a measure of exception. There are certain situations when the parental authority cannot be exercised due to objective situations like: parents being deceased, unknown; terminated parental rights; placed under legal interdiction; missing; declared dead by way of court of law. In order to replace the parental authority in such hypothesis, the legislator created the institution of guardianship, one of great importance in this context.

FROM REASON OF STATE TO COORDINATION BY TRADE: HUME’S COMMERCIAL SOCIETY AS A MEANS OF ARRANGING NATIONAL AND GLOBAL POLITICAL ORDER

Author(s): Ferenc Hörcher / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

This paper takes on board the relationship of political and economic ideas in Hume’s essays. It wants to show that although Hume played a major role in preparing the ground for the would-be discipline of political economy, his interest in economics is linked to politics. He wants to make sense of the challenges posed and opportunities opened up by the recent global spread of long-distance trade. The thesis of this paper is that although Hume is aware of the risks of the jealousy or collaboration of commercial societies on a worldwide scale, he does not see any other alternatives (beside warfare), and in fact he is convinced, that it has positive effects on domestic and international levels as well. The first part of the paper offers an overview of the relevant ideas of two key players in recent Hume-literature. First, it shows that István Hont in his volume Jealousy of Trade could convincingly show that some of Hume’s ideas are relevant if we want to make sense of international politics today. Then it presents two basic concepts of Andrew Sabl’s recent interpretation of Hume’s politics: coordination and convention, arguing that mechanisms of international trade can be analysed with the help of these categories. In the second half of the paper the reader will find analyses of key concepts of Hume’s historically informed introduction to commercial societies and their interplay, including prudence, balance of power, balance and jealousy of trade, and refinement.

UTILITY AND REALITY IN HUME’S POLITICAL THOUGHT

Author(s): Yosuke Hamada / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

This article aims at explaining a utilitarian and a realistic thought as the keystones of David Hume’s political theory. For this purpose, in the first section, I treat Hume’s moral theory as the basis of his political thinking. Hume thinks that every person has the natural ability to feel utility for society or humankind to be pleasant, but that this inborn ability is nevertheless limited such that we need artificial rules (virtues) for social interest. In the second section, through some concrete examples, I demonstrate that, in Hume’s political theory, such a utilitarian basis is connected solidly with realistic thought. Hume believes that political theory should take into consideration what is really possible for human nature and for the present social situation. Because of human nature, the real human world can never be perfectly moral. Thus, I argue that the central purpose in Hume’s political thought is not to build an ideal and perfect speculative theory; rather, it is to point out the concrete way to make a society or a nation more advantageous for its members in a realizable manner.
