The Metropolitan Opera jako wiodący producent spektakli operowych. Strategia kreowania marki the Met

The Metropolitan Opera jako wiodący producent spektakli operowych. Strategia kreowania marki the Met

Author(s): Agnieszka Lakner / Language(s): Polish Issue: 02 (29)/2016

The aim of an article is to show a strategy of creating brand by Metropolitan Opera according to the theory of global culture industry by Scott Lash and Ceila Lury. The main process which plays a significant role in this strategy is a medialisation of the opera, which provides constant update of this genre and helps it to adapt its form for a contemporary consumer. This strategy changes the relation between product and its recipient on several levels and makes an opera a new, fresh and modern music genre, as well as a theatrical and cinematic experience. Expansive Met brand transforms the operatic industry and introduces numerous innovations as Live in HD, iPod applications, Met on Demand, a brand of a singer etc. There’s also a significant aura around this brand, which imposes a form of thinking and causes certain expectations in relation to the consumer goods made by Met. According to the Roland Barthes’ theory of modern myth, the perception of this brand depends also on its history, memory and tradition, as well as being created by the identity itself. Thanks to the innovations and the nature of the event, an access to the opera nowadays is much easier and becomes a sign of a modern era.

"La buona figliuola" Carla Goldoniego a "Czekina albo cnotliwa panienka" Wojciecha Bogusławskiego

Author(s): Edyta Grzywaczewska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 02 (25)/2015

„La buona figliuola” („The Accomplish’d Maid”) is an opera buffa in three acts by Niccolò Piccinni and Carlo Goldoni. The librettist based his text on Samuel Richardson’s novel „Pamela, or Virtue Rewarded”. It was performed for the first time at the Teatro delle Dame, Rome on 6th February 1760 with an all male cast. It was a big success and „La buona figliuola” took Europe by storm. Every European opera house had this opera in its repertoire. The performances were in: Barcelona, Prague, Vien, Dresden, London, Berlin, Mannheim and Paris. This opera was probably performed even in Beijing by Jesuits in 1778. „La buona figliuola” was so popular in Europe that Stanisław August Poniatowski, the King of Poland, wished it for his coronation ceremony. The performance took place at the National Theatre on 7th August 1765, just five years after the world premiere. This opera was also very popular in Warsaw. People loved the story of a simple and good maid Cecchina. Seventeen years later, Wojciech Bogusławski, the director of the National Theater, translated and adapted Goldoni’s opera and named it „Czekina albo cnotliwa panienka” („Czekina or a Virtuous Maid”). He performed it in 1782 with big success. First of all, the article describes the historical context of the creation of libretto – the Carlo Goldoni’s biography. Next, it presents the story of maid Cecchina and the phenomenon of the description of the Polish theories of translation from the 18th century, the Polish version of the opera – „Czekina or a Virtuous Maid”, is presented. Finally, two versions of the libretto – the Goldoni’s and the Bogusławski’s, are compared.

Lodż hot gehuljet. Łódź hulała. Obraz kina i kultury atrakcji w żydowskiej gazecie codziennej 'Lodzer Tageblat' w latach 1908-1914

Author(s): Martyna Steckiewicz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 03/2013

Lodz is a perfect example of the industrial, multiethnic city, which was developing very intensively during the XIX century. The changes concerned also the social structure and lifestyle of its inhabitants. Creating of the new ideas and cultural customs affected the morals and principles. Jews as a constituted group of city residents, were experiencing those changes as well. Systematically they took part in urban everyday life and became the attractive customer for the local entertainment industry. The article presents the analysis of the reception of early cinema in the Yiddish local newspaper „Lodzer Tageblat”, for the first time published in 1908. The presence of announcements and advertisements proves that Jews constituted an important part of Lodz’s audience in premises offering different entertainment programs. By putting reception of early cinema to the context of all other municipal entertainments offered by the local theatres, circus and cinematographs, I refer to to other research in early movie‐going in Łódź.

Кажи и покажи: за ролята на жестовете в езиковото обучение

Author(s): Ekaterina Sofronieva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2018

This article presents three interrelated studies on the use of gestures by children, university students and teachers who apply the Narrative Format model for second language acquisition in their practice. The model was created by Taeschner (2005).The results of the first research project, implemented in Bulgaria and abroad, verify that using gestures facilitates and supports children’s second language acquisition. The two studies which followed were conducted among university students in pedagogy from Sofia University and language teachers from various nursery schools. Results verify the relationship between gestures, used by teachers and their registered levels of empathic concerns. Gestures are viewed as part of the Teacher Behaviour Profile. The more empathic teachers are, the more frequently they use gestures in their interactions with the children. This has a direct impact on the learning achievements of the children. Furthermore, children taught by teachers with higher levels of empathy show better results in their language acquisition.

Идеологията и невъзможната й трансформация в масово комерсиално изкуство при социализма

Идеологията и невъзможната й трансформация в масово комерсиално изкуство при социализма

Author(s): Angelina Petrova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 5/2019

Тhe decade of 1944-1954 marked a prominent rise of the mass-song, which became a major ideological genre. It is a genre-product that performs the ideological, state and public order of the Communist Party in tune with cultural engineering. It embodies the economy of socialist production of culture: provision with contractions at all levels, realization through sponsored state chambers, secured by contractions with state institutions in a hierarchical state order. The mass-song is created in the system of state socialized art of socialism designed by the civil engineering of socialism. Still, something prevents it from growing into commercial art - it hinders its ideological, adaptive, traumatic nature, offsetting anger and fears. Its disharmonious duality is the cause of its crisis after a decade of generously sponsored development. In the party papers officially published by the Union of Composers in 1954 and then (1956, 1958) instead of a succession of successes and conquests of a broad audience, in the mass-song, a collapse, poor performance, a crisis. In the 1970s, this led to its encapsulation.

Музикантите като фенове на публиката. Образи на концертната публика и медийната аудитория

Author(s): Zhana Popova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 6/2019

The research of the media publications and TV shows after 1989 with the participation of a certain group of musicians - the artists making Estrada - shows that there is an area where the power of the audience is a necessity that preserves the power of the author. The Estrada musicians describe their audience as a ‘good person’ or a child, they need to teach how to recognize valuable music. In the period 1990 - 2017 the musicians draw a couple of key images of the audience: the weddings audience, the parents and the child in the audience, the supranational symbol, the constantly reminded image of the “phenomenon soviet audience”. A key finding of the research is that the musicians clearly distinguish between “concert audience” and “media audience” as imaginary communities.

Фолклорeн събор, фестивал, конкурс в съвременността. Значение и място на музиката в тях

Author(s): Radka Bratanova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2019

From the beginning of the 21st century and especially in its second decade, a lot of folklore festivals, sabors, singing and music making competitions, fairs, exhibitions and feasts have been created and organized. In almost every town or village (predominantly these are towns) the events take place once a year – a fact which suggests that they are in a way substitutes of the local fairs from the past. In all these cases there is folk music – either processed or unprocessed. Its role and significance determine to a great extent the type, the format and the level of the particular event. The article reveals different phenomena, certifying for the influence of the music performed on the festival where it is performed – played by professionals or by amateurs, having a main or an accompanying role, used or not with different functions and with different cultural aims.

Водици в с. Добърско – обредност и музика

Author(s): Veselka Toncheva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2019

The article presents Voditsi rite in the village of Dobarsko (Razlog Municipality, Blagoevgrad Region) and the ritual song repertoire, characterized by its antique musical thinking, melody and rhythmic specifics. The scholarly focus is centered on the processes of development of the traditional rites in the local culture. The diachronic point of view to the rite reveals the dynamics in the course of time as far as from the second half of the 1950s to the middle of the 1980s Voditsi rite performed in Dobarsko by young virgins has stopped to exist. After that the rite is reconstructed, but mainly as a performance on the scene. Today the rite is an important element of the cultural heritage of the village and functions as a sign of local identity.

Достъпът на хора с увреждания до програмите на аудиовизуалните доставчици на медийни услуги – задължение и демократична ценност

Author(s): Diliana Kirkovska / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2018

Audiovisual media services providers play informational, educational, social, cultural roles and therefore it is of extreme importance all parts of their programmes to be easy of reach for every consumer. At high level that is to be obligatory for people with specific difficulties of usage of the media, such as the visually and hearing impaired persons/blind or deaf –TV media content should be naturally accessible via various tools and no extra charge. At high extend the legislation in Bulgaria is appropriate and well prescribed but in practice that presentation is out of time and humiliatingly small in quantity and access tools. The media providers should deliver to that specific part of the audience full access to their programmes by using different approaches – the sign-language translation, audiodescriptions and audiosubtitles, subtitles in multiplex platforms, as well as news scrolls as an alternative tool. That is a mark of the democratic society – not to exclude that part of the public but on the contrary – the visually and hearing impaired persons should get media content at ease anytime and anywhere.

A kultúra közjó

Author(s): Virág Buka,Kristóf Nagy / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 27/2020

This article focuses on the emergence of the paradigm of solidarity economy and of the commons in the field of professional cultural production. We unfold the possible mutual cooperation of cultural producers and commoning social movements by examining the case studies of the Resonate music streaming co-op and of the Dutch Stad in de Maak housing-initiative. The case of the Resonate exemplifies how cultural producers can reorganize their industry in a cooperative way to hinder capitalist value extraction. Another type of encounter takes place between culture and commons when cultural producers utilize their knowledge and skills in various solidarity economy projects. We demonstrate this possibility through the case of the Rotterdam-based Stad in the Maak, where the artist-architect founders launched a long-term community housing initiative.

FEMINISM AND LITERARY IDENTITY: CĂTĂLINA FLORINA FLORESCU’ S WORKS

Author(s): Iuliana Păunescu ( Voroneanu) / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

Contemporary theatre plays become fertile spaces for exploring themes of identity, trauma and personal reconstruction. Cătălina Florina Florescu, a writer from the Romanian diaspora, makes a significant contribution to this literary landscape through the innovative way in which she approaches female characters in contemporary literature, reflecting and challenging cultural and social norms. The writer's works have not yet benefited from an extensive analysis in this direction, namely the analysis of how these characters reflect different aspects of femininity, such as identity, sexuality, interpersonal relationships, motherhood, career, addressing themes of trauma, healing and self-discovery. It is an opportunity to investigate the cultural and personal influences that life in the diaspora had on the plays under analysis, the way in which the experience of emigration and adaptation is reflected in its themes and characters. They deal with complex and sensitive topics, from a feminist perspective and critical of contemporary society. An aspect worth mentioning, for a modern and intelligent theater, of a disturbing honesty, is the strength of a harsh, relentless language, used by female characters, which pushes us beyond our comfort zones and encourages us to question ourselves about what it means to be a man, a woman, a human being.

DRAMATIC TEXT AND THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE: RECEPTION AND INTERPRETATION

Author(s): Vera Mariancic-Cobzac / Language(s): English Issue: 40/2025

The theatrical process is characterized by the relationship between the literary text and the stage representation. Receiving and interpreting a work of art is a multifaceted process that includes pre-understanding, analysis, critical and/or creative rethinking. The article deals with the problem of the relationship between the dramaturgical text and its stage performance from the perspective of the theories of the reception and interpretation of the artistic text. We conclude that the theater and interpretation are in a relationship of complementarity and that simultaneously, the interpretation precedes and follows the theatrical performance.
