Проблемът за „овехтялата“ естетика

Author(s): Ivan Stefanov / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 4/2017

The article examines Adorno’s view that philosophical aesthetics is lagging behind the progress of the avant-garde. Thus, traditional aesthetics is becoming obsolete and turning into an anachronistic theoretical activity. Seeking a solution to this crisis situation, aesthetics strives to find adequate theoretical ideas – paradigms – able to competently summarize the results of creative art. Contemporary aesthetics is turning into an interpretative science that works with various philosophical paradigms.

Природата на естетическия опит

Author(s): George Herbert Mead / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 4/2017

The main topic of the article is the practical and pragmatic coinciding, on the one hand, of the world of physical objects and on the other, of the world of contact and meaning that one finds in the surrounding physical reality. In this context, aesthetic experience is seen as a fundamental link which lends unity and homogeneity to every human experience and activity, whether collective or individual, through joy, pleasure, delight, the aesthetic attitude, the discovery of meaning and values that complement the purely “technical” element in experience. The very nature of aesthetic experience is rooted in reveries, vague yearnings – but whether these will add the aesthetic final touch to experience, or will remain at the level of the fragmentary and private sphere, unsharable and impossible to co-experience with society, depends entirely on how they are applied in everyday life.

Историйността на естетическото?

Author(s): Andrey Leshkov / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 4/2017

The article offers a quasi-phenomenological reading of the aesthetic attitude. Inspired by the end of art thesis, while taking into consideration its restatement through Heidegger’s “Der Ursprung des Kunstwerkes”, the author proposes an approach based on the notions of secularization and resacralization. This approach seems relevant enough for interpreting those signs of the times that the modern aesthetic culture of a European art world reveals through its historicity. This makes it possible, on the one hand, to interpret aesthetic theorization as a kind of “heretical theology”, and on the other hand, to construe art within the framework of its relatedness to an extra-confessional worship or even a liturgical practice.

Изтокът и Западът: между митологията за отцеубийството и синеубийството. Новата „Червена“ книга на Орхан Памук

Author(s): Iskra Tsoneva / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 4/2017

The article discusses the paradigm of cultural collision between East and West, artistically articulated in Orhan Pamuk’s latest novel, The Red-Haired Woman. The novel is a fictional inquiry into the literary foundations of civilizations, and compares two myths, fundamental respectively for the West and the East – Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex (a story of patricide) and Ferdowsi’s tale of Rostam and Sohrab (a story of filicide). The article highlights the worthy and courageous message contained in Pamuk’s novel.

ЗВУКЪТ КАТО СМИСЪЛ

Author(s): Andrey Leshkov / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 5/2017

This article attempts to approach three problems: 1) What does it mean that a work of music exists? 2) How does the experiencing of a musical artwork come into being? 3) Why does the world of a musical artwork remain ineffable? As to the problem of question 1), the solution the author proposes is that any musical artwork possesses an intermittent existence, devoid of the sort of permanence one finds in works of other arts. The problem referred to by question 2) concerns the conditions of possibility to intellectually experience a musical artwork; here an answer is sought by connecting time-consciousness and intentionality, phenomenologically interpreted. The problem referred to by question 3), regarding musicalitas ineffabilis, is addressed here as related to a certain primacy (both ontological and aesthetic) of the yet unfinished becoming over the now finished being

Author(s): Snezhanka Stoyanova / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 5/2017

The first part of the article describes two modern psychotherapeutic methods – the psychogenealogy of Prof. Anne Ancelin Schützenberger and BioNeuroEmocion. After that, the author goes into certain details of the epigenetics perspective. Bert Hellinger’s “family constellations” method is briefly introduced, followed by a description of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s “transgenerational” psychology. In the second part of the article, the author focuses on the benefits of combining psycho-genealogy with art therapy when clay sculpting is used as a way to explore the family tree and thereby reach awareness of, and transform, the inherent models of self-sabotage. In this connection the author examines the “family sculpture” method developed by Virginia Satir

Екзистенциалната феноменология на гората в „Шумки от габър“ на Николай Хайтов

Author(s): Nikolay Turlakov / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 6/2017

This essay attempts to outline the authentic existential phenomenology of the forest, and specifically, the existential meaning and feeling related to hornbeam and oak trees, in Haytov’s famous work Hornbeam Leaves. The article argues that in this book, Haytov`s insightful descriptions of trees, of the hornbeam and the oak, the pine and the creeping pine, the beech and the hazel, etc., deploy an amazing existential phenomenology of the Bulgarian forest, which amounts to no less than a genuine phenomenology of the Bulgarian soul.

Парфюмът като метафора?

Author(s): Andrey Leshkov / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 4/2018

The article sets itself a twofold aim – on the one hand, to present Süskind’s novel Das Parfum as an allegory of the Enlightenment, and on the other, to outline an aesthetic approach that would restore the rights of the so-called “lower” senses (e.g., smell and touch) in cultural distinction. In addition, it will be argued that Süskind’s novel playfully refers to the tradition of early German Romanticism, especially with reference to authors like Heinrich von Kleist and E. T. A. Hoffmann. Finally, perfume will be recognized here as a metaphor that represents the possibility to provide appropriate expression of the modern aesthetic worldview.

Спасение на спокойствието, или за особения естетически смисъл на тази категория

Author(s): Petar Plamenov / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 4/2018

The study is centered on the question of aesthetical experience and one of its specific elements, tranquility. The question arises whether tranquility can be thought of conceptually as a category, and whether it can be conceived of in the purest aesthetic perspective or, to the contrary, will continue to be seen as ethical. Is tranquility an essential condition for the realization of the aesthetic experience or is it rather the essential purpose and meaning of that experience? How should we perceive tranquility – as an inherent quality of the work of art, as part of the aesthetic experience, or as a goal in the overall meaning of art ?! The category is considered in the persectives of both Western and Eastern aesthetics (examples of Haiku poetry). The analysis leads to a number of unexpected results.

Какво имаме предвид, когато говорим за „авторски стил“ в изкуството?

Author(s): Ivan Popov / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 4/2018

The paper explores the linguistic behavior of the aesthetic predicates that describe the stylistic properties of artworks. It concludes that the reference to an author’s individual style has to be distinguished from other variants of stylistic predication. One main implication of this analysis is a critique of the “death of the author”, a notion that has been very influential in literary theory since the 1960s.

От конкретизация към социализация на художествената творба

Author(s): Ivan Stefanov / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 3/2019

Тhe main thesis of this article is that the perception of a work of art involves a dual process. On the one hand, there is a process of “descending” to a free subjective interpretation of the artistic meaning of the work; on the other hand, and in parallel, there is a contrary process of “ascending” to a real objectivity, i.e., to a social conclusion, more or less conforming to the beliefs and criteria that come from current or historical time. The subjective whims of individual concretization are correctеd and placed within certain socio-cultural frames through the mediation of what sociology of art defines as internal and external mediators.

Естетическа държава и еманципация. Бележки върху завършека на Шилеровия проект

Author(s): Emanuela Yaneva / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 3/2019

The text dwells on Schiller’s aesthetical project as an emancipatory and focuses on the projects’ conclusion. The emancipatory discourse unfolds by the disclosure of multilayered oppositions that have led to a sort of disruption which determines the problematic conclusion of the promised transition to political freedom achieved through art. The concepts of aesthetic state and beauty in appearance are viewed as both central to the issue under discussion and as leading to the broader discussion on the relationship between art and reality.

Концептуализирането на реалността като естетическа конструкция в творчеството на Волфганг Велш

Author(s): Lachezar Antonov / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 3/2019

The article discusses the question of the growing aestheticization of everyday social and material reality, and in particular, the German philosopher Wolfgang Welsch’s reflections on this issue, presented in three of his essays in which he links problems of aesthetics to the global change in ways of perceiving and experiencing reality in contemporary hedonistic and mediatized culture. The article attempts an analytical reconstruction of the main aspects of the thesis regarding the aesthetic modelling of reality in present-day consumer societies, as well as of the relation of that thesis to Welsch's theory of “Aesthetics beyond Aesthetics”.

Естетика на съществуването у Мишел Фуко

Author(s): Miroslava Hristoskova / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 3/2019

Michel Foucault’s aesthetics of existence interweaves several themes: a concept of ethics as a form of relation towards oneself, care for the self, the idea of shaping life into a work of art, and the intention to create new modalities of subjectivity. This is an attempt to recreate an ethics and aesthetics of self. The subject here is determined by relation to oneself, not by a rule or a code. Foucault’s thinking is a way of answering the question of becoming oneself, but the answer differs from that of the Platonic and Christian models. In the model elaborated in the culture of the self, the significance of which Foucault supports, the leading factor is ethical work. The latter ensures the reshaping of the subject through practices of the self. Here, care for the self is a main form that encompasses the art of living. It is a form of life that leads to the transformation of self in accordance with the truth. Foucault’s aesthetics is ethics, and ethics is related to politics. Their framework is the fundamental problem of the relation between subjectivity and truth. The question of the constitution of subjectivity is related to that of the production of truth. Subjectification conceptualizes this form of subjection, where the subject is objectified in a truthful discourse. Another way of constituting the subject is through processes of subjectivation, seen as practices of freedom. The theoretical focus is on the possibility of creating new modalities of subjectivity through the processes of subjectification.

Изкуство и медии

Author(s): Ivan Stefanov / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 1/2020

This article deals with the way art and media not only deny but also constantly integrate each other, thereby reaching a difficult to discern absolute unity. Thus, the two spheres – art and communication – lose their independence and solidity and turn into endless cultural streams. Their dual, hybrid form is constructed by the widespread perception of them and their constant presence, as well as by their incompleteness and fast transience. This is why in mass culture there is no eternal return to elite pieces of art, but rather an eternal movement of endless artistic-communicative streams, aimed at taking possession of an endless, linear time.

Естетико-политически дискурс: репрезентация и режими на видимост

Author(s): Emanuela Yaneva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2020

The paper focuses on an attempt to conceptualize the ambivalent relationship between art and politics in the framework of a certain aesthetic-political discourse based on the concept of regimes of visibility. The exposition goes through the idea of definite prescriptive principles lying in the basis of an axiomatically accepted idea of art’s transformative function regarding the political status quo. In this context, the notions of the aesthetic and the political undergo a process of re-conceptualization, following key ideas such as Rancière’s distribution of the sensible and Roland Bleiker’s aesthetic representation.

Moja sprawa: o małżeństwie i prawach seksualnych osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną na scenie i na ekranie

Author(s): Katarzyna Ojrzyńska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2020

Taking Len Collin’s film Sanctuary and its impact on Irish society as a starting point, Ojrzyńska examines how various contemporary Polish cultural texts (the soap opera Klan [Clan], the performance Moja sprawa [My Business] by the theatre BRO, and Klauni [Clowns] by Teatr 21) address marriage and sexual rights of people with an intellectual disability. Using Jacques Rancière’s concepts of representational and aesthetic regimes of the arts and the tenets of contemporary critical disability studies, Ojrzyńska demonstrates that these works serve as a form of protest against the ableist status quo. The article examines the significance and effectiveness of such forms of protest and empowerment through art devised by people with an intellectual disability.
