Značaj digitalizacije i digitalnih biblioteka u vrijeme pandemije COVID-19 na primjeru Gazi Husrev-begove biblioteke u Sarajevu

Značaj digitalizacije i digitalnih biblioteka u vrijeme pandemije COVID-19 na primjeru Gazi Husrev-begove biblioteke u Sarajevu

Author(s): Ejla Ćurovac,Adnan Ćurovac / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 3/2023

The subject of this paper is the analysis of the importance of digital libraries for pupils, students, professors, librarians and researchers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also around the world during the COVID-19 pandemic and frequent closures of cultural, information and heritage institutions. In 2017, the Gazi Husrev-bey Library established digital library, and its importance and importance of other digital libraries and repositories from around the world was best seen in the extraordinary conditions in which libraries were forced to continue their operations. In all of this, it is extremely important to mention the role of librarians and information experts, thanks to whom the educational processes and access to the necessary literature could be successfully continued. The importance of digitization is even greater if you take into account its role for international cooperation and the development of good relations between related institutions, especially in the Balkans. The aim of the paper is to present the importance of digital libraries, so that more users would learn about their existence, and at the same time encourage other institutions to start this type of activity. The analytical method will lead to basic conclusions related to the use and expediency of digital libraries, taking into account the forced closure of library buildings and the transition to digital or digitized content in all information and heritage institutions around the world through the example of Gazi Husrev-bey's library in Sarajevo.

„Złotodajna” makulatura. Na marginesie badań nad polskimi wydaniami modlitewnika Hortulus animae

Author(s): Katarzyna Krzak-Weiss / Language(s): Polish Issue: 3/2023

Research on binding wastepaper has a long tradition in Poland, dating back to the 1820s, and the result is the discovery of fragments of many valuable manuscripts and prints. This article is devoted to the discoveries made, among others, by Władysław Nehring, Kazimierz Piekarski and Anna Lewicka-Kamińska, the fruit of which were previously unknown editions of the popular prayer book Hortulus animae, found and preserved only in the fragments they discovered. The most groundbreaking was Nehring’s find, thanks to which eight pages of the first Polish edition of Hortulus were published, but the importance of the remaining ones cannot be overestimated. It is noteworthy that out of eleven (certain and highly probable) editions, dating back to the first half of the 16th c., as many as six are known only thanks to single sheets extracted from their bindings.

Zróżnicowanie języka formy – wizualno-werbalny charakter kolekcji Liberatura ze zbiorów Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej w Poznaniu na podstawie wybranych przykładów

Author(s): Agnieszka Rybarczyk / Language(s): Polish Issue: 27/2023

This article discusses a number of examples of liberature works, in which the text and the material form of a book constitute an inseparable whole and the artistic mes- sage is transmitted not only through the verbal medium, but also through the author “speaking” via book as a whole, from the perspective of verbal and visual communication. The paper focuses on the following works: Anne Carson’s Nox, Herta Müller’s The Guard Takes His Comb, Zenon Fajfer and Katarzyna Bazarnik’s Oka-leczenie [Eyes-ore], Stéphane Mallarmé’s A Throw of the Dice will Never Abolish Chance, and Radosław Nowakowski’s (including the collection of poems Nieopisanie świata [Non-description of the world]). Verbal expressions of an idea or thought and the accompanying mental image in these works permeate and often overlap, thus adding new meanings to the existing ones, and in this way expand their interpretative implications, while the abundance of the solutions adopted by the authors is stunning. At every instance, this formal innovativeness, adjusted appropriately to the content, supports and revises the meanings in a given work, and ad- ditionally influences its reception providing incentives and new stimuli within the reading comprehension process.

O reprintach uwag kilka

O reprintach uwag kilka

Author(s): Grzegorz Niec / Language(s): Polish Issue: 8/2010

The article presents the history of facsimile editions in Poland, their importance and position in the history of books and publishing. The examples presented and discussed in the paper allow us to distinguish a number of types of edition – reprints: 1. Scientific facsimile edition, apart from the re-edition of a given work (a manuscript, print, or document) also containing its transcription and elaborate scientific methodology, while the copy of the old edition is only a part of a wider-scale project; 2. Reprint, merely enriched with a shorter or longer commentary, preface, or glosses; 3. Reprint which is an exact copy of the original, without any additional elements; 4. Re-edition, produced by means of photo-offset, with a new title page and cover; 5. Hybrid edition, uniting reproductions of old editions and texts, set together anew, joined by continued pagination and index. The crucial element that determines how a given work is classified is the scope and form of all new, added elements, which gives the text a new value, making it more than just a copy (which could be called „clear reprint”, following Rulykowski). The closer the text is to the original, the higher its bibliophile value and typographic level is. In the other cases, evaluation to a greater extent applies to the subject-matter value of the work: the text itself, the commentary and the methodological workshop.

Badania ankietowe w pracy bibliologa

Badania ankietowe w pracy bibliologa

Author(s): Lidia Ippoldt / Language(s): Polish Issue: 6/2008

Bibliology frequently uses methods borrowed from other academic disciplines. One of them is sociology and its sociological method. It consists in examining the status and attitude of the social environment towards cultural or communication institutions, and in investigating the reactions of certain social groups to their activities. This is visible e.g. in using sociological methods in studies examining recipients, when demands of the market require objective measurements of the size, composition and reaction of the audience. The survey method can be employed for this purpose. It requires selecting the topic, setting up the goals and research hypotheses, and constructing the survey questionnaire. The questionnaire must be adapted to the age and structure of the group, but also to its perceptive and intellectual capabilities. Before the work begins, it is vital that the surveyor precisely understands how in the given research the surveyed population is defined: who can be surveyed, and who must be excluded from the research. A crucial part of the research process is preliminary testing of research tools, which in the case of a questionnaire is called a pilot study. Its aim is revealing and describing respondents’ reactions to particular questions of the survey. The researcher is mainly interested in how questions, and the terms they contain are understood and what sensations and emotions they evoke in the respondents. After conducting the pilot study, for which the population sample is selected randomly (e.g. by choosing some numbers from the class register of the class in which the pupils are to be surveyed) or purposefully (e.g. by selecting a given number of pupils from each class, including very good, average and very poor students) and after analyzing its results, the research tool can be verified. After it has been improved, the survey proper may begin, for which either the auditory survey or mail survey technique can be chosen. The research material obtained from the survey proper is then selected and analysed, first quantitatively and then qualitatively. The research results analysis should be finalized with conclusions, which may recall general results, but most of all should verify the originally formulated hypotheses.

Badanie potrzeb użytkowników biblioteki

Author(s): Joanna Kołakowska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 6/2008

In 2004, survey research was conducted on a random sample of 167 users of the Main Library of the Cracow Pedagogical University. The aim of the research was to examine the needs and expectations of the Library users and to elicit their opinions on its resources. According to the respondents, the greatest advantage was the possibility to borrow books for the period of five months. However, there also appeared critical remarks, concerning insufficient number of computer terminals to order books, too short opening hours, especially on Saturdays, the necessity of more frequent updating of the Library resources, the need for increasing the number of the most popular volumes, and – particularly emphasized – the slow work of the Library computer system.

Dywagacje wokółkwestii założeniowości orazpola badań bibliologicznych

Dywagacje wokółkwestii założeniowości orazpola badań bibliologicznych

Author(s): Andrzej Dróżdż / Language(s): Polish Issue: 5/2007

The author presents some reflections on the field of bibliological research in the context of postmodernist discussion of culture. It is claimed that epistemological approach and non-assumptive account and description of the examined subject are not sufficient for the understanding of the multilayered structure of a book, its social functions and its cultural sense. The second part of the article presents new research possibilities that emerge after introducing certain anthropological assumptions. Modern bibliology seems to be overburdened with the myths of reason. This leads to simplifications in perceiving the book as a whole. Anthropological contexts allow us to overcome these simplifications and enable us to see the book as a symbolic unity which fulfils the assigned cultural functionsin the mutual relations between the inner and the outer layers. Ryszard Ergetowski – historyk nauki, bibliotekoznawca, badacz niemieckiej slawistyki

Ryszard Ergetowski – historyk nauki, bibliotekoznawca, badacz niemieckiej slawistyki

Author(s): Jadwiga Tyl / Language(s): Polish Issue: 5/2007

Ryszard Ergetowski (3.04.1925–18.04.2005) was a university professor, a specialist in history of science and bibliology, an expert on the 19th century Polish-German scientific contacts and a researcher of the German Slavic studies of that period. After years of hard work, in spite of many painful experiences of the German occupation and the communist period, persecuted for constant refusal to join PZPR (the Polish United Workers’ Party), he managed to achieve his educational goals and reached the top of academic career. In 1970–1986 he worked in the PAN (Polish Academy of Sciences) Institute of History of Science and Technology in Wrocław; in 1981 he became the director of the Institute. In 1986 he began working in the Chair of Scientific Information and Library Science of Pedagogical University in Cracow. As a professor, he conducted classes in the history of science and the scientific research methodology, as well as gave monographic lectures. Being an active researcher, he wrote over 350 papers in Polish, German, Czech, and French (monographs, dissertations, studies, as well as reviews, reports, popular science articles and literary essays). He used to base his works on direct materials, found in queries in archives and libraries in Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland. The comparison method used in these works, elaborated by the Professor throughout years of scientific research, enabled introduction of many new significant aspects into the history of Polish and German science. In his scientific work Ryszard Ergetowski devoted a lot of attention to scientific and librarian activity of Jerzy Samuel Bandtkie. On the basis of rich epistolary material, collected over many years, Ergetowski wrote numerous works on the subject (Roczniki Biblioteczne 1964, 1967, Biuletyn Biblioteki Jagiellońskiej 1970, 1978, 1987, Kwartalnik Historii Nauki i Techniki 1985; collective works: K dějinam česko-slovensko-polských vědeckých styků, Praha 1989 and Joachim Lelewel – księgoznawca, bibliotekarz, bibliograf, Warszawa 1993) He also published a number of papers on the history of books and the history of Polish book collections abroad (Roczniki Biblioteczne 1970, 1978, 1987, 1994–1995). As a top-class scientist, he cooperated with many scientific institutions, e.g. Komisja Nauk Pedagogicznych PAN (PAN Committee on Pedagogical Sciences) in Cracow, Komitet Historii Nauki i Techniki PAN (PAN Committee on History of Science and Technology), Centralny Ośrodek Metodyczny Studiów Nauczycielskich (Methodological Centre for Pedagogical Studies), the Institute of Scientific Information and Library Science of the University of Wrocław, the Ossolińskis National Institute Library, Kleist-Gedenk und Forschungsstätte (Frankfurt an der Oder), Deutsches Polen Institut (Darmstat), Societas Jablonoviana (Leipzig), Berlin Academy of Sciences and Humanities, Slavisches Seminar (Freiburg), Seminar für Osteuropäische Geschichte (Heidelberg), Österreichisches Ost- und Südeuropa Institut (Vienna). For his achievements in the scientific field, in 1972 Ryszard Ergetowski was awarded the J.E. Purkyně Medal by the Czech-Polish Society of History of Medicine, in 1984 he received the Societas Jablonoviana Medal of the Karl-Marx University in Leipzig, and in 1988 he was awarded the Golden Cross of Meri

Wybrane słowniki języka polskiego dostępne poprzez strony www. Prezentacja, porównanie, próba typologii, ocena

Author(s): Agnieszka Fluda-Krokos / Language(s): Polish Issue: 5/2007

The article discusses the existence of the Polish language dictionaries in the World Wide Web resources. It is also an attempt at a typology of that kind of publications. The paper contains descriptions of five out of many publications of that type, available on-line. The general evaluation of their quality and usefulness was based on the following criteria: the offer, page layout, graphic design, information on authors and sources, updating the contents, search method, results presentation, help, language correctness, informative value, and contact with the editor. The highest mark was given to the dictionaries of PWN, available at www.pwn.pl. The second best was Słownik synonimów polskich (The Polish Thesaurus) at http://synonimy.ux.pl. The remaining publications were ranked as follows: Słownik polskiego slangu (The Polish Slang Dictionary) at www.univ.gda.pl/slang.html, dictionaries available at www.wiem.onet.pl/ polszczyzna, and Słownik terminów literackich (Dictionary of Literature) at http://prace.sciaga. pl/33664.html. The large number of such publications is a proof of high demand. Unfortunately, not all of them fulfill the basic requirements of quality and reliability, yet, considering the examples of the PWN dictionaries, Słownik synonimów polskich and Słownik polskiego slangu, it may be presumed that this kind of publications will gradually improve on the quality of contents and aesthetic values.

Ciekawość książek w świetle Gabriela Naudé Advis pour dresser une bibliotheque

Ciekawość książek w świetle Gabriela Naudé Advis pour dresser une bibliotheque

Author(s): Andrzej Dróżdż / Language(s): Polish Issue: 4/2006

Advis pour dresser une bibliothèque by Gabriel Naudé possesses features that make this work especially attractive for a “book anthropologist”. The author searches for holistic principles that would enable the understanding of the timeless values in the work of a librarian. He points to the psychological contents that motivate a book-lover – and every reader. The advice, instructions and statements presented by Naudé were neither easy nor simple for his contemporaries, but it is owing to Advis… that the profession of a librarian has become more of an art than a simple routine craft. According to Naudé, while buying books, a librarian should present cleverness and sagacity, in order not to squander money away but purchase the right items. Librarians must be educated in many fields and must know the methods of storing and repairing books, but – eventually – their professional success is determined by the curiosity of the world, the intuition, the hobbyist passion and the love of books, which cannot be grasped by the fixed framework of the job. Thus a librarian should try – as early as possible – to understand the psychological aspects of the collecting passion, and recognize the secrets, whims and preferences of the readers.

Kształtowanie postawy kreatywnej użytkowników informacji na przykładzie doświadczeń bibliotek duńskich i holenderskich

Kształtowanie postawy kreatywnej użytkowników informacji na przykładzie doświadczeń bibliotek duńskich i holenderskich

Author(s): Hanna Batorowska,Halina Kosętka / Language(s): Polish Issue: 4/2006

The clients of modern libraries have precisely defined needs, and the existence of libraries depends on the way in which those needs are satisfied. An unquestionable determinant of the library functioning is the adoption of a client-friendly orientation. Ignoring the demand for new forms of services, the quality of service and a different work-style of the modern information users will inevitably lead to the realization of the catastrophic scenarios of school and library development. A library is not an institution that merely serves gathering, storing and granting access to information; it is not a centre for transmitting and processing data. Such thinking, typical of informatics, devastates the ideology of library and entitles local authorities to make motions to close libraries and promote exclusively electronic forms of communication. Therefore the challenge to the modern libraries is to work out new forms and methods of cooperation with the information users of the post-modern era, and to harmonize those methods with the process of creating the organizational culture of a client-oriented library. However, it is not necessary to invent everything from scratch. Many interesting suggestions and solutions can be found in the work of libraries functioning in countries that possess longer and richer experience in this field.

Karlovačka zelena priča

Author(s): Anita Malkoč Bišćan,Jasmina Milovčić,Kristina Čunović / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 1/2024

The City Library “Ivan Goran Kovačić” in Karlovac is the central library of the Karlovac County. It was built in 1976 as the first purpose-built library building in Croatia and the region. With its six departments, seven services (including two bookmobiles) and two dislocated libraries, the library manages to meet the needs of numerous members and over 150,000 visitors a year at more than 800 events. The energy-efficient library building, green oases in the library area, high-quality green literature, and numerous eco-events contributed to the improvement of the local community. It especially improved the quality of the stay in the Library for both visitors and employees. The green story was rounded off and brought closer to the wider professional public with the Green Festival – Karlovac Green Story. The festival was realized by strengthening the existing cooperation between the library and associations and institutions at the national and international levels. Great interest and enthusiasm are an additional motive for the Green Festival to enter the map of national events and become a traditional gathering of librarians and all other experts who deal with green topics.
