The article presents the results of the questionnaire survey studying the level of Polish tourists' ecological awareness, as well as the degree of their familiarity and interest in the European Ecological Network Natura 2000 in the coastal areas. The survey was held in the years 2012-2013 and was conducted among the respondents visiting the Polish Baltic coast. The majority of tourists (80%) arriving at the seaside for recreational purposes declare a high level of interest in environmental protection and daily pro-ecological behaviours. The most popular sources of information on the environment comprise television and the Internet. The majority of tourists express their interest in recreation in protected areas, yet up to 82% of them are not familiar with the notion of Natura 2000. The knowledge about the locations of Natura 2000 sites in the vicinity of tourists' holiday spots is equally poor. The visitors to the coastal areas are highly critical of the availability of information on Natura 2000 and indicate the information boards, websites and leaflets as the most desired sources of information.

Every year the Republic of Croatia, especially in its south part in Dalmatia, faces forest fire risks. The weather is exceptionally conducive to fires, so the main period of fire occurrences is between June and October, characterized by long lasting dry and warm weather with temperatures over 30oC. Research carried out by the authors in 1997 and 2012 have pointed to the fact that human impact is the main cause of ignition. This paper presents an overview of the total number of fires in the period from 1998 to 2012, with the emphasis on forest and woodland fires in the Croatian region of Dalmatia. Data on the situation in Dalmatia refer to the situation in the areas of responsibility of four Dalmatian Police Administrations. Analysis is based on official data of the Croatian Ministry of the Interior and the report of the National councillor for managing and controlling forest fires. The authors have analysed the frequency of forest fires in Dalmatia in a period of fourteen years (1998-2012) comparing it with the previous period, 1989-1996. The results that the authors have obtained reveal how forest fires most commonly (2/3) break out during the warm part of a day, from 09.00 until 18.00 hours in the warm period of the year. Particularly vulnerable are the forests of Aleppo pines and maquis being mostly thermal forests, whilst in the south of the country the forests of Holm oak (Quercus ilex) and English oak (Quercus robur) are at the highest risk. Reforesting of burned areas is very slow and Croatia has been far behind in reforesting in the continental part of the country.

The Kyiv city is analysed in this article. We describe Kyiv as a capital city, the main city in the country. But Kyiv is also the main town of the homonymous province — Kyiv region. The concept of the "value of void", proposed by L. Salmin, is the basis of our analysis. Accordingly, Kiev is considered as a city of void, in which the idea of a city square (Maidan) is pronounced — as an empty space which can be used for various purposes: from fairs to protest meetings, from the meeting place to the transit area .

There is a real need for a rational and scientific debate between all parties involved in environmental risk management in Romania and the region of Central and Southeast Europe against the human domination of nature. The issue of industrial risks is of great significance especially in the Romanian technology park highly wear and aging, involving specialized knowledge and industry-specific risk. Thus, the development of activities to increase awareness of hazards in communities located near some areas and industrial plants that pose a high ecological risk is required. The main ecotheological objective is to develop a network platform type and a coordination group through which it aims to implement the theological program in the light of environmental concerns. It is undoubtedly difficult for Theological Organizations to practically realize by themselves such systems involving additional resources for maintenance and operation of ecological values, such as ecosystem management and sustainability. Orientation toward concerns about environmental hazards and risks, health, and safety of the population, will help the achievement of constructive theology as philosophy, in the category of those who want to reach religious-environmental results while respecting community in which it is located. There is a real need for a rational and scientific debate between all parties involved in environmental risk management in Romania and the region of Central and Southeast Europe against the human domination of nature. This article is based on the long-term ethnographic field research (2011-2016) among Bergitka Roma in Carpathian Villages, an engaged ethnography in a non-profit organization offering Roma integration services and in-depth interviews with main political actors responsible for the adaptation of Polish strategy of Roma integration. The difficulties of introducing Roma integration are essential for understanding the state of the current policy supporting Roma communities. A considerable number of scientific publications in recent years focus on the “pragmatic” dilemmas of new ways of developing cultural “democratic” change within the Roma communities and improving the quality of Roma/ non-Roma ties. The meaning of the activities referred to here, as “Roma’s integration” is different for particular actors, possessing diverse intentions, experience, interests and ideas about the rationality of this type of activity. The author argue that the anthropologists should be ready to challenge the general sense of practices of helping as a product of concrete social epistemology. However, in ethnographic practices it sometimes may seems difficult from the moral point of view. In the following he uses the distinction between the concepts of “thick” and “thin” moral convictions which was proposed by Kwame A. Appiah in his conception of “cosmopolitan ethics”.

In this work we discuss the forest area and coverage stability in the Holy Cross Mountains in Poland. We analyzed data from the beginning of the 19th century to 2011. The analysis was based on the comparative cartographic methodology in GIS using four archival and one contemporary maps showing forest coverage in 1800, 1900, 1930, 1983, and 2011. The area of the highest forest coverage stability, where the presence of forest was documented on every analyzed map is 21,0% of the Holy Cross Mountains. The area corresponding to 28,9% of the Holy Cross Mountains was periodically covered by forest. Forests in the Holy Cross Mountains are natural landscape dominants, covering mostly mountain ranges and hilltops.

Post-mining grounds and spoil tips frequently render landscapes permanently flawed. As a result of mining activity, considerable stretches of land are often permanently excluded from further use. Due to the extensively transformed landscape, it is necessary to implement revitalisation processes. Relevant design and investment activities, coupled with the cooperation of specialists such as architects, civil engineers, geotechnicians, hydrotechnicians and environmental engineers, along with local authorities, can offer a comprehensive functional programme for areas degraded by mining and provide local residents with an attractive leisure area. This article discusses the current state of knowledge on the revitalisation of former mining areas, with special regard to architectural, environmental, social, and economic aspects. The aim of the study is to review and promote design solutions which permanently restore previously degraded areas to local communities. Various concepts of revitalisation of degraded areas are presented, based on examples of landscape architecture at home and abroad. The selected examples comprise natural regeneration, reclamation, and ecological engineering. These are examples of a holistic and modern approach to the development of tourist and environmentally active areas in post-mining sites and spoil tips. Furthermore, the study presents the authors' proposal concerning the revitalisation of a spoil tip area at LW Bogdanka mine for winter sport purposes and other activities, for which the demand was signalled by their management. The discussed examples can serve as an inspiration for future actions and executive projects, undertaken in accordance with the guidelines of Agenda 2030 and Fit for 55 policies.
