Increasing the Performance of Agricultural Holdings in Romania - an Imperative for their Management

Increasing the Performance of Agricultural Holdings in Romania - an Imperative for their Management

Author(s): David-Nicolae Crecană,Cornel Dumitru Crecană / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2019

As a member state of the European Union, Romania consolidates from year to year its position in the agricultural business performance area, especially due to the increase in the share of agricultural land for organic farming. Romania's long-term development strategy necessarily involves increasing the economic performance of Romanian agriculture alongside the increase in the living standards of the rural population. This research starts from a current radiography of Romanian agriculture and aims at new ways to increase the performances of the Romanian agricultural farms in the conditions of general economic development. An adequate management of the Romanian agricultural farms is imperative, along with the effective support of the European Union offered to the Romanian agriculture. The increase in the incomes obtained from Romania's agriculture can be achieved by a new approach to the size and economic size of agricultural farms, but also by transforming them into organic farms. Sustainable development of agricultural businesses is thus a priority.

Employee Complacency and Corporate Demise

Employee Complacency and Corporate Demise

Author(s): Gary Oster / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2019

A significant problem afflicting many historically successful corporations is employee disengagement caused by complacency. Complacency is the self-satisfaction with the status quo that provides employees with feelings of quiet pleasure, security, and ease. It severely constrains life-giving corporate innovation and change, which are crucial to enterprise success in the volatile modern global economy. Complacency may lead to corporate dissolution if not intentionally reversed. This paper provides leaders with potential strategic changes that can combat complacency and promote actions necessary for positive strategic innovation.

Mastering the Skills Gap at Systemic Level – The Education Management Information System: A Key Element for an Effective Digital Transformation in Education

Author(s): Daniel Bőjte / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2019

Educational leaders must make informed predictions in order to design and adopt relevant educational strategies to bridge the skills gap, so they need reliable and trustworthy data. A well designed and properly rolled-out Education Management Information System (EMIS) will assure precise, fluid and timely datasets which can be easily interpreted, being able to extract the insights needed by using the adequate tools for data analysis, filtering out redundant or irrelevant metrics.Being not only an IT tool and a database, but rather a system within a larger education system, EMIS contributes to implement the policies and practices by which higher education institutions effectively collect, protect and use digital information assets to meet academic and business needs. This paper highlights the role and the importance of an effective EMIS and the biggest challenges in implementing it.

Author(s): Marko Jeločnik,Florentina Dragne,Iuliana Denisa Rădulescu / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2019

Milk is important in human diet because it contains micronutrients good for health. Milk is one of the basic agricultural products and many researchers have been studied its benefits. This segment of research focuses on milk consumption, as one of the essential food products used in human nutrition. The objective of this paper is to identify the consumers’ perceptions about milk quality and safety. Pursuing this, a survey was carried out towards the collection of data about consumer’s buying behaviors, their preferences related to milk and dairies, buying frequency and monthly budgets spent in average for these products.Research findings show that consumers find quality and safety as the most important criteria in choosing milk and dairies, since they have been marked with the highest score among the other criteria, such as price, promotions, or packaging. Gained results are useful for better understanding of consumer’s behavior during the purchase of milk and dairy products, as for proper decisions related to further directions within the implementation of food safety management systems in food processing facilities.

Functional approaches to SCOR Model in the supply Chain Management Processes (Part II)

Author(s): Gheorghe MINCULETE,OLAR Polixenia / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2019

Under the current knowledge-based society, the SCOR model allows for a complex dynamic relationship of all actors integrated into the Supply Chain Management (SCM). Within this framework, all processes appropriate to the design and implementation of the model are specific to each partner company of an SCM from suppliers to end distributors. Particularly important for the efficiency of implementing the SCOR model is the managerial aspect of the skills of the staff involved and of the managerial mechanism adopted. If we first treated the first three processes of the SCOR model in the first published part of our material, we will continue to address two further processes, namely Deliver and Return.

Transforming Cultural Barriers into Assets: Lessons Learned From a Global Insurance Broker

Transforming Cultural Barriers into Assets: Lessons Learned From a Global Insurance Broker

Author(s): Elena Lvina,Alex Matveev,George Grishin / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2019

This study provides a refined look at the challenges in crosscultural communication and contributes to our understanding of the key skills and behavioral factors that explain and increase employee intercultural competence. In a qualitative investigation, we explored both the “whats” and “hows” in the communication of interculturally competent employees of a global insurance broker - Oakeshott Insurance –working in the UK and Ukraine. We found that interculturally effectiveness depended on employee ability to shift their frame of reference and to actively seek culturally diverse experiences. Contrary to previous research, frequent exposure to different cultures and the length of employment in a multicultural organization did not correspond to the highest level of intercultural sensitivity. We recommend that global organizations mitigate the legislative and language barriers and further develop the intercultural competence of employees by focusing on the cultural and societal context and actively.

Using Data to Optimize Higher Education Financing – A Management Issue

Using Data to Optimize Higher Education Financing – A Management Issue

Author(s): BŐJTE Daniel / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2019

The financing of higher education is an issue that has long-term societal implications, with a strong political influence and more often than not, hindered by the imperfect competition among HE institutions. The arbitrary way the financing of HE institutions occurs may be mitigated and optimized by using data collection, more precisely an Education Management Information System (EMIS), to ensure precise, fluid and timely datasets. Being not only an IT instrument and a database, but a system within a broader education scheme, EMIS contributes to implementing policies and procedures that efficiently collect, safeguard and use digital data resources to satisfy educational and company requirements. This paper highlights the current status of the financing of HE in Romania, in comparison to other countries, more specifically UK and US.

Author(s): CREȚU Mihaela,Ana Alexandra GORA / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2019

Over time, the participation of young people in education and the labor market has been pursued and it has been shown that working during college leads to an increase in employment opportunities after the completion of studies, and in the current context of society the student status is no longer sufficient. The interpretation of this dual role of student-employee has become an important source of stress. In this regard, this paper aims to identify the links between different factors of stress at work and faculty and the work and academic performance obtained by students. The paper is based on a research conducted at the level of 115 students from The Bucharest University of Economic Studies and multiple linear regression analyses were used to determine the links between different stressors and performance. The main results illustrate the influence between workplace stressors and workplace performance, between academic stressors and academic performance, between workplace stressors and academic performance and between academic stressors and workplace performance. Furthermore, the results suggest that this study can make some practical contributions both to students and to universities and managers.

Managerial Solutions for Debirocratization of Public Institutions

Managerial Solutions for Debirocratization of Public Institutions

Author(s): VEZETEU Valentin / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2019

In the category of ways of streamlining the management of any type of organization, but especially of public institutions, the debirocratization is of particular importance, along with the generalized promotion of strategic management, managerial methodology, professionalization of managers and management or improvement of organizational and managerial culture. The attenuation of the degree of bureaucratization, internal and external, can be achieved by promoting seemingly simplified managerial modalities, on which we will focus in the present material. Either of these modalities must focus on reducing or eliminating the causes that cause excess bureaucracy in the exercise of management. In this way, the path opens up towards the computerization of the management and execution processes, towards digitization. In this regard, Romania is far from the level recorded by other European countries, especially Estonia, considered champion in this regard. Without a professional management, no realistic scenario of debocratization can be imagined. This is why the proposals advanced in the article are of a managerial nature only, and those who must operationalize them are the managers of these organizations

Investor Sentiment on the Stock Market using Artificial Neural Networks

Investor Sentiment on the Stock Market using Artificial Neural Networks

Author(s): Oana-Mădălina Popescu / Language(s): English Issue: 5/2019

The present study uses volatility as a measure of investor sentiment on the Romanian capital market. The GARCH(1,1) model and the GARCH(1,1) model with Student-t innovations are used in order to describe the volatility of the Bucharest Exchange Trading index. The estimated volatility series are afterwards included into two artificial neural networks with the purpose to evaluate the forecasting performance of these networks. The results show that even though the artificial neural networks are well specified the volatility of the BET index, as measured by the GARCH(1,1) and GARCH-t(1,1) models, does not represent a proper measure for investor sentiment on the market.

Management of Community-Based Home Hospitalization (CBHH) in Israeli Public Health System

Management of Community-Based Home Hospitalization (CBHH) in Israeli Public Health System

Author(s): Iris Megido,SOUDRI Avichai,Adriana Prodan / Language(s): English Issue: 5/2019

Increased utilization of health and hospital services around the world due to growth in aging population has been important for national policies as it affects the allocation of national resources and budgets. Home-based care is one of the solutions for dealing with the growing demand for hospital beds and for reducing the length of hospital stays and their costs, which are derived from institutional hospitalisation. It refers to various services provided in the home to support patients. Home hospitalisation services are gradually becoming part of the standard care in many health systems around the world. Various community-based home hospitalization (CBHH) models have been developed for a wide range of acute, chronic, rehabilitative, and end-of-life medical conditions. Recent studies have reported that CBHH programs carry fewer costs and have greater patient satisfaction compared to equivalent traditional inpatient hospitalizations; however, studies on the organizational aspects of implementing CBHH are scarce. In 2017, a model for CBHH for acute medical conditions was implemented for the first time in Israel at Maccabi Healthcare Services. So far, 779 patients (50% males, average age, 72 years) have been treated within this model, mostly (76%) for infections. Most patients expressed high overall satisfaction with this service, especially in terms of dignity, attitude and care of the professional team. Both patients and physicians perceived that CBHH provides a suitable mental and emotional environment, which also reduces the risk of exposure to infections. The Israeli Ministry of Health has recently decided to provide financial incentives to HMOs that will develop community outpatient models as a substitute for acute and continuing hospitalization in accordance with the established principles.

HIGIJENSKI USLOVI SUBJEKATA U POSLOVANJU S HRANOM (SPH) NA PODRUČJU KANTONA SARAJEVO U PERIODU 2019-2020

Author(s): Adna Bešić,Emilija Hrapović / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 1/2021

The research aims to present the hygienic conditions of food business entities in the area of KS in the period 2019-2020 and to categorize the deviations of microbiological parameters of hygiene of surfaces, objects, and hands of employees who do not act following the criteria for cleanliness. The research included sampling and analysis of 495 samples of swabs of surfaces, objects, and hands of employees in 2019 and 2020 in contracted SPH (Entities in the food business) in the Sarajevo Canton (KS), as part of regular monitoring through self-control plans. Determination of microbiological purity of objects was performed by swab analysis of parameters of aerobic mesophilic bacteria and enterobacteria. A sampling of swabs, as well as analysis of samples, was performed in the microbiological laboratory of the Institute of Public Health of FB&H, international ISO standard methods, accredited following the requirements of the standard BAS EN ISO / IEC 17025: 2018. In 2019, a total of 362 swab samples were analyzed, of which 69 (19.1%) samples did not meet the Guidelines on Microbiological Criteria for Food. In 2020, a total of 133 swab samples were analyzed, of which 29 (21.80%) samples did not match. Adequate hygienic conditions and health safety of food is the obligation of every facility that deals with food. All SPHs are obliged to harmonize their operations with the provisions of food regulations, which are regulations governing certain areas of food safety policy. A careless attitude towards the maintenance of such facilities, work surfaces, can lead to the rapid development of microorganisms, which pose a great danger to food safety and human health.
