Wellbeing of Students from Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Schools

Wellbeing of Students from Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Schools

Author(s): Stefan COJOCARU,Aura ȚABĂRĂ / Language(s): English Issue: 84/2024

This article presents data of a quantitative study that aimed to analyze the specifics of the wellbeing of students in disadvantaged secondary schools. A total of 1579 students of gymnasium level from 27 disadvantaged schools in Iasi County, Romania, participated in a survey conducted using the Adolescent Wellbeing Scale (EPOCH). Findings illustrate that pupils from disadvantaged schools have a low level of wellbeing, with different characteristics depending on the gender, age, environment and the level of disadvantage of the school. Results indicate that students from disadvantaged schools are satisfied with their life, develop positive interpersonal relationships, show indifference to involvement in activities and easily abandon their goals. This study confirms the importance of analyzing students' wellbeing to identify educational strategies that allow schools to be more effective from the perspective of reducing the level of violence and decreasing the level of student demotivation, problems that educational systems face nowadays.

Обучение на специалисти по таргетинг – нонсенс или мисията задължителна

Author(s): Radoslav Chalakov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2024

Joint targeting is the result of the need to translate the joint force commander’s (JFC) plan into tactical actions. Joint targeting involves the process of selecting and prioritizing targets (classified in NATO as Facility, Individual, Virtual Entity, Equipment, or Organization (FIVE-O), and determining the appropriate means to influence them, taking into account operational requirements and available capabilities, to produce desired effects consistent with the objectives of the operation. It links tactical actions to the strategic desired end state through operational objectives by influencing prioritized impact objectives (IA). Its practical application began in the early twentieth century, World Wars I and II, (Japanese Theater), continued with the Korean Conflict between North Korea and the United States, through the Vietnam War, was used during Operation Desert Storm, the Kosovo Conflict, the Iraq War, and continues to be applied in modern warfare. It is hypothesized in this article that in the second decade of the twenty-first century, the first option in the title, „nonsense,“ is a thing of the past, while the second, „mission imperative,“ is valid and imperative.

Educating Military Leaders on Future Challenges

Author(s): Gabriela Florina NICOARĂ,Daniel ROMAN / Language(s): English Issue: 1s/2024

Each member state of North Atlantic Alliance is responsible for the quality of its human capital. Furthermore, by assuming membership status in the Alliance, it becomes accountable for the level of professionalism that it provides. Recruiting and selecting military leaders who operate professionally within NATO is one of the most relevant aspects in the contemporary security context. The pandemic context, military conflicts, and the instability of diplomatic relationships between states are some of the real-world problems that are challenging not only Military Forces but also for military higher education institutions. These institutions are addressed to equip graduates with previously unsolicited competences. The graduates must represent not only the officers of the Alliance but also the future leaders who will perform in a complex operational environment. By focusing on the characteristics of the contemporary security environment and identifying traits that are emerging in the future, this article aims to frame meta-competences supporting curricula to shape military future leaders.

INTRODUCTION OF PHOTO ART ACTIVITIES, DIGITAL STORYTELLING TECHNIQUES AND H5P ACTIVITIES IN L2 LEARNING

Author(s): Ana Cristina Lemnaru / Language(s): English Issue: 36/2024

Our article explores innovative approaches to learning less commonly used second languages (L2) through the use of digital storytelling, photo art, and H5P activities. Our research aims to investigate the effectiveness of digital storytelling in enhancing language acquisition, engagement, and cultural understanding among L2 adult learners. We examine the integration of photo art, which involves using visual images to stimulate language production and cultural exploration. The utilization of H5P activities, which are interactive and customizable learning modules that can be integrated into digital platforms, provide L2 learners with opportunities for active engagement, immediate feedback, and self-paced learning. Our article concludes by presenting preliminary findings that suggest the combination of digital storytelling, photo art, and H5P activities can significantly enhance L2 acquisition, motivation, and cultural awareness among adult learners of less commonly used L2 languages. We demonstrate that the use these tools encourage L2 learners to express themselves creatively and develop a deeper understanding of the target language and culture. The paper also discusses implications for language educators and offers recommendations for further research in this area.

Author(s): Hristo Georgiev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2024

The modern geopolitical situation offers us a wide-spectrum framework of conflicts of varying intensity. The threats that are generated make it necessary to use more than one structure against them, both from the armed forces and the state as a whole. Therefore, more and more often, Special Forces will have to conduct operations in an environment in which other structures are operating. This makes it necessary to consider the interaction between the participating structures in joint operations as a permanent phenomenon.

Информационно осигуряване на системата за ранно предупреждение и докладване за ядрени, химически, биологични и радиологични събития

Author(s): Dimitar Nedevski / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2s/2024

The emergence of a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) situation creates risks for the troops, thus arises the need for its clarification, assessment and warning of threatened sites. In addition, available modern information tools and programs can be used to create technology for providing timely and reliable information on the occurrence of CBRN accidents, adversary use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and early warning of troops. On the other hand, the possibilities for building connections with ministries and agencies that perform tasks of monitoring and warning about CBN contamination for the needs of other users have not been realized. These facts provide the basis for the organization, structure and tasks of the existing system for collecting, evaluating and exchanging data on the CBRN situation – AIS “Preslav”, to be brought into line with the NATO standardization documents in the field of nuclear chemical and biological (NBC) protection. The present report is an attempt to give an answer to the questions arising from these current topics.

‘Constants’ and ‘variables’ of digitalized education

‘Constants’ and ‘variables’ of digitalized education

Author(s): Lev N. Letyagin,Denis Yu. Ignatev / Language(s): English Issue: 6/2023

Introduction. The article examines the problem of informatization of a globalized society. The purpose of the study is to summarize the ideas about the ‘constants’ and ‘variables’ of modern university education as a self–organizing system actively involved in the processes of digitalization. Materials and Methods. In order to achieve the research aim, a thematic review of Russian and international studies on the issues of informatization of a globalized society has been conducted. The study involved a comparison of alternative points of view reflected in the works by B. Readings, P. Cramer, etc. The analysis of existing theories of the information society has been carried out. Results. Reviewing the results of Russian and international studies has shown that the world picture today is structured predominantly by the modern media, while most globalizing trends are becoming less and less manageable. The history of philosophy frequently addresses the problem analysis of such paradigmatic shifts which arise implicitly and take shape in emergence. The article discloses the authors’ understanding of ‘constants’ and ‘variables’ in contemporary university education as a self-organizing system that is rapidly undergoing an intensive process of digitalization. A traditional European university typically demonstrates its ‘aura of age’. The questions are: ‘To what extent is the structure of consciousness influenced by the development of digital resources and by outsourcing the functions of academic word and of individual memory to external digital data media?’; ‘To what degree can production of university knowledge act as an intellectual practice and determine the independence of thinking?’ The problem of establishing the topic of academic engagement and interaction in online formats is considered to be debatable. The authors show that today individuals as subjects of cognitive activities find themselves in a situation where they face value choices, which, in their turn, determine the prospects and the potential of cultural development. Mnemonic operations are to longer perceived as the art of memory. This problem attains special significance during the process of building humanitarian education within the system of electronic communication. One cannot claim categorically that individuals cease to think structurally when they relay the function of storing information to digitized sign systems as a universal resource. Conclusions. The conducted research allowed the authors to conclude that the development of digital technologies as a means of fulfilling social interests means positioning the idea of ‘digital equality’ as the main social asset. This has stimulated establishing cardinally new directions in humanities research. At the same time, the need in relevant and timely connections between the concepts of infogenesis and semiosis is seen today as one of the most current issues in world paradigm problems.
