SMART SERVICES AND THEIR BENEFITS FOR MANUFACTURERS FROM A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

Current manufacturers do not provide only tangible products to their customers, but also deliver services and integrated solutions in today’s globalized environment. Furthermore,they effort also on implementing ‘smart services’. Smart services allow by connected product service systems to exchange data between their customers and the service providers. Smart services offer many benefits for both manufacturing companies as service providers and as well as for their customers. The aim of this paper is to investigate which benefits of smart services are the most significant for manufacturing companies. To address the research objective, a qualitative multi-case study was conducted among seven Czech electrotechnical SMEs, which have already started with smart service provision. The respondents operate in the same industry,but they provide a wide range of products and services to their customers with varying degrees of smart service orientation. The empirical part of the paper involves in-depth interviews with owners or with experienced senior managers in each case organization. The interviews were done from April 2017 to January 2018. The findings show the most important benefits for small and medium manufacturers and their customers.

METHODICAL BASES OF FORMATION OF INVESTMENT POLICY OF ENTERPRISES OF CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS INDUSTRY

In the present paper proved the feasibility of allocation of the investment component of the stability of the enterprises (along with financial, economic, organizational) in the formation of investment policy of enterprises of construction materials industry. The author analyses the techniques used in the estimation of the factors and indicators of financial, economic, institutional and investment components stability of enterprises, including enterprises of material and technical base of construction. Comparative analysis of results to test these methods on the example of the enterprises of building materials industry, operating in the Volgograd region. Identified and justified the advantages and disadvantages of their use in the development of the investment policy of the enterprises, functioning on the principle of the closed cycle of production. In paper as authors definition of the following concepts "investment component of stability of the enterprise", "investment niche of the enterprise", "investment lag" is given. Also proved the feasibility of taking into account these definitions in assessing the investment activity of enterprises with closed cycle of production of building materials industry and the development of the investment policy of the enterprises. Also the proposed method of evaluation of indicators such as "investment niche" and "the duration of the lag of investment", the use of which allows to determine the position of industrial enterprises of building materials in coordinate system "time - investment". The paper formulates principles and develops a structural and logical model of formation of investment policy of the enterprises of a closed cycle of production, taking into account the prognostic assessment of investment niches and the duration of investment lag. Also formulated the goal and objectives of the investment policy of the enterprise, the principles developed and presented the structurallylogic scheme of formation of investment policy of enterprises of construction materials industry.

HOW INDUSTRY REACTS TO SHOCKS: CASE OUT OF RUSSIAN CITIES

Research of reactions of the city economics has always been of great interest to scientists. Firstly, the analysis helps the policy developers to take efficient measures to solve managerial problems. Secondly, in the era of globalization cities are by right considered centres of concentration of the industrial and labour potential of the country. This research makes an attempt to analyze the employment pattern in the manufacturing and extractive industry sectors in the period of economic shocks, assess the influencing factors in the Russian cities varying in size and geographical location, using the shift share analysis. The received results show that the sector of extraction and processing of natural resources is growing notwithstanding low oil prices and the sanction policy, but the number of employed in the manufacturing industry is decreasing. An important conclusion for management is considerable impact of the local government on ensuring a favourable economic structure. This research may become a basis for a discussion on the scope of powers of the local government in municipalities varying in size and geographical locations. Research of the issue of leadership and responsibility for prosperity of cities as national activity centres arouses particular interest in the time of crists or external impacts such as sanctions. Developing countries with authoritarian regime place the main emphasis on the state policy measures while the role of local government is often limited to development of territory infrastructure, local handcrafts, service industry. May be there is a need to deploy a “two-gear model” of local government powers and give the leading cities a possibility to take over solution of issues relating to the change of economic structure, industrial sector development for future prosperity.

Potrivit dispoziţiilor art. 413 alin. 1 din codul de comerţ „contractul de transport are loc între expeditor sau acela care dă însărcinarea pentru transportul unui lucru şi întreprinzătorul care se obligă a-l face în numele său propriu şi în socoteala altuia, ori între unul din aceştia şi cărăuşul ce se însărcinează a-l face”1 . Cel de-al doilea alineat al art. 413 preciza că, prin cărăuş, vom reţine persoana care îşi ia însărcinarea ca, într-un mod oarecare, să transporte sau să facă a se transporta un obiect oarecare. Prin urmare, textul codului de comerţ determina o reală confuzie între cărăuş sau transportator – subiect care îşi asumă obligaţia de a realiza transportul – şi comisionarul de transport, subiect ce acţiona ca un intermediar profesionist, încheind contracte de transport în nume propriu, dar pe seama persoanei care solicitase efectuarea transportului.

Primul exemplu al dezechilibrului rezultă din articolul 12.3 care dă posibilitatea părţilor să convină din momentul şi din locul primirii mărfii, numai ca primirea să nu fie posterioară încărcăturii iniţiale a mărfii sau anterioară momentului în care se încheie descărcarea. Trebuie să menţionăm că articolul 12 vizează toate contractele de transport la care RR se aplică şi, mai ales, contractele din port în port, şi contractele din poartă în poartă; în acest ultim caz, prima încărcătură va avea loc pe timpul încărcării cu marfă pe un vehicul stradal sau feroviar, iar problema ridicată nu se pune. Se pune doar în contractele port - port. Dar, soluţia este aceeaşi cu cea din Regulile „Haga-Visby”. Sub imperiul Regulilor de la Hamburg, la fel. Vom observa că este în cauză libertatea pe care numeroşi încărcători o revendică. În final, coincidenţa obligaţiei de încărcare cu primirea şi descărcarea cu livrare are meritul coerenţei şi clarităţii.

Regulile de la Rotterdam, Regulile de la Haga-Visby, Regulile de la Hamburg, ce dezordine! Primele convenţii internaţionale asupra transportului maritim al mărfurilor sunt Regulile de la Haga, urmate de Regulile de la Haga-Visby, care preced Regulile de la Hamburg. Regulile de la Rotterdam nu sunt decât pe a patra poziţie. Ce dezordine, dar în acelaşi timp, ce insuficienţe în subiectul propus, căci trebuie să se conteze şi pe Convenţiile Nordice şi legile naţionale aplicabile. Regulile de la Haga, Regulile de la Haga-Visby, Regulile de la Hamburg, Convenţiile nordice, legile naţionale în faţa acestor norme, RR (Regulile de la Rotterdam) par, în ciuda amplorii şi „greutăţii” lor, foarte „slabe”, „uşoare”, cu excepţia faptului când considerăm că RR sunt cele mai puternice pentru a regrupa toate aceste convenţii şi a reda puţină ordine în dreptul internaţional al transporturilor maritime. Nu este vorba de a recurge la maniheism şi a prezenta RR ca cele mai puternice sau cele mai slabe. Este vorba, înainte de toate, de a compara, de a face alegerea sau mai degrabă excluderile.

Public-private partnership is a promising and well-proven tool in many developed countries to attract investment in infrastructure projects. The introduction of such a tool is especially relevant in modern conditions of socio-economic instability and is associated with the financing of large infrastructure projects (in the transport industry). The purpose of the study is to analyse existing approaches to assessing the effectiveness of public-private partnership projects in the field of transport infrastructure of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Methods for the study of the subject matter: analysis of Kazakh and foreign theoretical approaches, analysis and synthesis, statistical and systematic analysis, system, concretisation, graphical representation of information, analysis of state programmes and legislative documents. As a result of the study, the author’s hypothesis was confirmed – by improving, developing, and systematising the system of criteria for assessing the effectiveness of infrastructure projects, followed by the definition of methodological approaches and the development of assessment tools, it is possible to intensify the development of transport infrastructure projects based on public-private partnership models. This would help to attract additional extra-budgetary funds and stimulate the introduction of new technologies in the design, construction, and maintenance of transport infrastructure facilities of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Supply chain risk is a strategic issue for managing multinational companies, and Covid-19 has shown the relevance of this type of risk for the firm's survival probability. The market may perceive the choice of replacing some of the main customers or suppliers as an increase or a decrease of the risk based on the features of the new supply chain members, and markets tend to penalize companies that increase their exposure to unaffordable events. During the pandemic, many supply chains suffered from glitches and companies were obliged to redefine their network by selecting their new strategic customers and/or suppliers. The paper evaluates the supply chain composition strategies of a set of multinational companies based in the US during the last decade. It highlights the differences in supply chain management behavior before and during the pandemic. Data collected allow testing the impact on the stock market performance of modifying the supply chain network by adding new members that may have a different level of risk. Results show that the market reaction to supply chain updates changed after the Covid-19, and nowadays there is greater attention on the credit risk of the new companies entering the supply chain.

This paper analyzes the dynamics of the postal route system of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 16th–18th centuries. The first postal route connected Vilnius and Krakow in 1562 – weekly postal services were rendered. In 1669, postal carriages started running from Moscow to Vilnius and then further on through Tilsit to Königsberg. The GDL postal route network underwent its largest expansion in the 18th century. An important postal line proceeded along the route of Warsaw – Grodno – Kaunas – Jelgava – Riga. Part of it coincided with the Warsaw – Vilnius route; at Ratnyčia, the postal carriage would turn northeast and continue via Merkinė and Varėna to Vilnius. From Vilnius, one postal route led to Königsberg via Kaunas, and another to Moscow; there are also data about a postal line to Polotsk. Another crossroads of the GDL’s postal routes was Grodno. The routes leading from Warsaw to Kaunas, Vilnius, and Riga intersected there. Separate lines to Lublin and Slonim were in operation; one of the postal routes led to the border of the Russian Empire. The network of the GDL’s postal routes also consisted of other roads. The location of some of them were subject to change due to the political situation, natural disasters, and seasonal practicability.

The developed transport system is a guarantee of sustainable economic growth and improvement of interstate relations of Ukraine. Activities of all types of transport are an integral part of the process of becoming a state as an economically independent unit. One of the main problems of the aviation industry is the imperfection of infrastructure, due to the monopolization and closure of the air transport market. The purpose of the article is to analyze the main indicators of aviation activity, the shortcomings and reasons for insufficiently high rates of aviation transportation compared with other modes of transport. The role and tendency of air transport development in Ukraine are determined. Air transportation has advantages in the use for transcontinental passenger transportation, but it is considerably inferior to short-distance transportation, which is clearly illuminated and illustrated in the article. That is why, the reason for the slow growth of volumes of transportation is still the problem of updating the aviation park, the development of airports, which together with the high cost of carriage on the Ukrainian market of airline services and the difficult economic situation in the country leads to disappointing indicators of the industry of air transport. In order to improve the efficiency of air transport, a number of recommended proposals for improving the process of aviation transportation, increasing the competitiveness of domestic carriers and increasing demand for transportation among the population of Ukraine was identified. Improving the efficiency of air transport is to determine how the most efficient use of available resources of each enterprise. Fierce competition in the market of transport services leads to systematic and detailed analysis of its activities, on the basis of which it is necessary to justify the economic evaluation of work. Such detail will enable the timely identification of deficiencies in the work at each stage of the process of transportation of passengers, cargo or mail, to evaluate their consequences, to prevent their appearance and to quickly implement effective measures to eliminate them.

Travel restrictions due to COVID-19 initiated a radical rethink of the urban planning process, focussing on a concept initially proposed by Carlos Moreno in 2016; the "15-Minute City" model, aiming at the improvement of quality of life by creating or rearranging cities so that residents' needs can be reached within 15-minutes on foot or by bicycle or by public transit. In continuation to a research in 2020, this paper quantifies the attractiveness of the model to residents in nine regions of Sicily in 2022. Based on statistical analysis concerning the respondents' opinion, the model examined promotes walking as an anti-stress method and improves the overall health conditions at a community level. Therefore, policy makers can revalue the existing planning process and create a blueprint for a healthier and car-free lifestyle.
