An Examination of Strategies to Mitigate the Number of Motorcycle Rider Fatalities in Thailand

Author(s): John Christopher Walsh,Karl Stefan Meneghella / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2018

This paper attempts to examine and quantify the degree of safety-helmet use by motor cyclists and their passengers in Thailand. Specifically, the paper examines the phenomena in three separate locations within Thailand. The paper will also review the literature surrounding road safety in general, road safety for motorcyclists, proper helmet use, Thai acts of parliament aimed at motorcyclists, and the degree to which helmet use is enforced or policed in Thailand. Experts posit that road fatalities, and the serious debilitating injuries caused by road traffic accidents, can impact a nation’s GDP by as much as 5%. Perhaps even more importantly, especially in the context of a developing country, is the direct impact to families who lose their prime bread-winner or wage-earner. This loss may either be permanent, as in the case of a fatality, or extended over a protracted period of time, where families find themselves having to care for severely injured members. In the latter case, the requirement for care is often long-term, with little in the way of insurance or medical benefits to offset the burden. It is hoped that a study of motorcycle related road traffic fatalities may identify or highlight interventions or strategies that could be employed to mitigate the road toll in Thailand.

INNOVATIVE DEVELOPMENT OF WAREHOUSE TECHNOLOGY

Author(s): Judit Oláh,Mónika Harangi-Rákos,József Popp / Language(s): English Issue: 10/2017

The smooth operation of stocking and the warehouse play a very important role in all manufacturing companies; therefore ongoing monitoring and application of new techniques is essential to increase efficiency. The aim of our research is twofold: the utilization of the pallet shuttle racking system, and the introduction of a development opportunity by the merging of storage and order picking operations in the pallet shuttle system. It can be concluded that it is beneficial for the company to purchase two mobile cars in order to increase the utilization of the pallet shuttle racking system from 60% to 72% and that of the storage from 74% to 76%. We established that after the merging of the storage and order picking activities within the pallet shuttle system, the forklift driver can also complete the selection activities immediately after storage. By merging the two operations and saving time the number of forklift drivers can be reduced from 4 to 3 per shift.

Prometno značenje Bjelovarsko-bilogorske županije za panonsku Hrvatsku

Prometno značenje Bjelovarsko-bilogorske županije za panonsku Hrvatsku

Author(s): Ivan Dadić,Dragan Badanjak,Jasna Jurum-Kipke / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 1/2007

Although the town of Bjelovar and the Bjelovar-Bilogora County are located in the middle part of the Croatian Pannonian area, their traffic significance has not been fully shown due to insufficiently developed infrastructure of the road and the railroad traffic. The most important Croatian and international road and railroad corridors to connect the East and the West cross the Sava River basin and the Drava River basin area. Main routes go from the North towards the South, from Budapest, through Zagreb and towards Rijeka, and from Osijek towards Ploče. Higher quality road and railroad connections from Pécs through Bjelovar, Zagreb, Banja Luka and Gradiška, through Daruvar towards Varaždin can considerably improve the traffic significance of Bjelovar and the Bjelovar Bilogora County in the future. Quality road connections such as Bjelovar – Čazma – Petrinja – Krnjak - Ogulin could lower the traffic intensity of the existing roads from Hungary through Varaždin and Zagreb towards Kvarner bay.

It is necessary to realize that the EU space is part of a global civil airspace where it is necessary to follow the global standards that we implement in the aviation field. The holders (individual countries) entering civil aviation have a diverse degree of development of aviation regulations, and aviation safety is, however, globally our common asset. The purpose of the paper is to identify key safety factors, systematically display sectoral regulations and analyse civil aviation regimes. In the paper, scientific and professional literature in the field of civil aviation and regulations in the field of civil aviation has been analysed with the aim of further surveys of civil aviation safety management. Based on the analysis, we find that aviation regulations, their implementation and, consequently, civil aviation control have a significant impact on the safety of civil aviation. The usefulness of the analyses collected will help further research and deepen the content of civil aviation safety. By collecting, sorting, reviewing and analysing the relevant literature (especially the regulations that represent the conditions for aviation safety management), the purpose of placing the basic notion of aviation and regulations has been achieved. This establishes a uniform starting point for further research work.
