Formulated by a native of the Antioch Theological School, Archbishop of Constantinople Nestorius radical diophysitism not only caused active controversy within the Mediterranean Christendom but also became the starting point for the rapid advancement of evangelical ideas into Asia up to the Far East. Despite the fact that the “theologoumenon” of Nestorius quickly emerged from theological practice, we know “Syrian Christians” of the Silk Road as “Nestorians” in Western historiography. On the territory of the PRC (People's Republic of China), primarily through epigraphic and archaeological sources, at the same time it is revealed a lot of new information about the existence of a “bright doctrine” on the territory of the Celestial Empire (a famous exonym derived from the name of Nestorius who was not known in China, therefore they called the new religion “景教”, where the first hieroglyph means “sunlight”, “radiance”, and “brilliance”, and the second — “teaching”, “religion”). In this work, based on materials discovered in recent decades, the author will try to partially reconstruct the existence of Christianity among the Sogdians, who were one of the most active trading nations on the Great Silk Road. One of the interesting categories of equipment that we often see in the burials of Sogdians is Romean coins (and more often it is imitations of such of varying degrees of quality). Often such “solids” carry Christian symbols (though their general semantics and functions are debatable). But at the same time, for example, the Nestorian religion of the Mi Jifen family proves that the Nestorian stele installed in Changan is by no means a lonely and random artifact. Although the number of “followers of shining teachings” in the Tang Empire itself and Western destinies vassal to China cannot be accurately estimated, it is quite certain that many Christians from there influenced the religious life of the Celestial Empire.

The article The liturgy in “Liber Pontificalis” starts with a depiction of the history of the Liber Pontificalis, which shows that the book had more than one author. The elaboration is divided into 5 parts: 1. The Holy Mass; 2. The Sacrament of Holy Orders; 3. The liturgical year; 4. Liturgical space; 5. Other phenomena associated with liturgy. Four parts contain issues which are grouped thematically, because they form a certain whole, whereas the last part encompasses issues appearing in single entries. The critical approach to the Liber Pontificalis, in the juxtaposition of biographies with other historical sources, shows that norms ascribed to some popes are not all credible. These anachronisms result from the fact that the book was not written by a single author, and especially the earliest pontificates were written down much later. Moreover, in this opus, apart from the liturgy, there are pieces of information pertaining to other fields, that were not the object of research of this elaborate.

The tensions emerged at the end of the 5th century on the Illyricum and the Danubian territorial continued and even accentuated at the beginning of the 5th century. Th events triggered a crisis which will become acute during the time of the Constantinople patriarch Atticos (406-425) and during the reign of Pope Zosimus [417-418]. It must be noted that Zosimus did not address Rufus, vicary of Thessaloniki, but an Illyrian bishop (whose name is not known) and whose authority, apparently, was high enough at the time for the Church in Illyrium. During this time, Constantinople approached increasingly the territories of the Eastern Illyrium, especially the Danubian lands and the center of Illyricum, Thessaloniki, and the hierarchs and clerics here will often address Rome for cases of dissatisfaction or misunderstanding.

The article shows Jesus’ struggle in Gethsemane for God’s will to be finally accomplished. Particularly, the Evangelists Mark and Matthew emphasize this theme. In Luke’s version, Jesus, the perfect Teacher, is ready to fulfil his Father’s plan right away. The struggle shown by the third Evangelist (a vgwni ,a) expresses Jesus’ strain, his emotions, to make what God had prepared for Him to happen. The theme of prayer in Gethsemane is also expressed in Hebrews 5:7-8, in the context of Jesus’ priesthood, which from the very beginning was closely related to his sacrifice of life. The quoted passage from the Letter to the Hebrews raises differences in interpretation. However, in the light of the Synoptics, it seems that eu vla ,beia - “fear” should assume a shade of respect, reverence for the will of the Father. Its recognition was accompanied by the suffering of Jesus, which resulted in his full obedience. The Will of God as the ultimate criterion for the decision is also confirmed in the early Church. The community of Caesarea Martima expresses its desire to implement it when all efforts have been exhausted to prevent Paul from imminent death (Acts 21:11-14). In this way, submission to the Father’s will becomes the point of reference in all circumstances of Christian life.

In 1760, in Vilnius, the book: The Life of the Dominican Saints appeared in the life of bl. Euphemia of the Piast dynasty. It is interesting because it was printed in Vilnius, the easternmost center where the cult of Euphemia arrived. It is based on the oldest text by Abraham Bzowski from 1606. However, there remains a shortened version of the text that was written in Italy in 1668 by the Neapolitan Dominican Domenico Maria Marchese. The life in question is valuable due to the geography of Euphemia’s cult and has one more advantage: the author placed in it two imaginary sentences of Euphemia herself, which also personalize life as the only one.

The “Burning Bush” movement represented a formation matrix, the Christian community where Father André Scrima was spiritually initiated and, at the same time, a unique pneumatic phenomenon in the history of the Orthodox tradition, and even in the history of the Christian tradition in general, in the twentieth century. Unique in the Orthodox culture of the century is not only this movement guided by the philocal and hesychastic tradition, a true rediscovery of the depth of experience of Orthodoxy, but also the analysis entrusted to writing at the other end of life, the understanding shared by Father Andrei in his work The Burning Bush times. The author offers in this article some historical landmarks on this movement.

The works of the 83rd Congress of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of the United States of America took place this year in a special setting, specific to the pandemic period we are going through, the participation of clergy and delegates from each parish being exclusive by audio-visual means, but in a formal setting, by their presence in the parish churches from where they attended and participated in the works of the Congress. On Wednesday, September 2nd, the Archdiocesan Council of the Archdiocese met in a virtual meeting, preparing in detail the Agenda of the Congress, and approving the documents to be sent to priests and delegates. On the agenda of the Archdiocesan Council were other administrative and pastoral missionary topics. The AROLA Report was also an important point in this last part of the Congress. Mrs. Claudia Aileni, president of AROLA, presented the rich activity, social and educational programs that the organization supported in the period 2018-2020. Countless social and philanthropic activities and their beneficiaries were part of the beautiful power point presentation. Reference was also made to the AROLA conference to be organized virtually on 19 and 20 September 2020. The last report was of the St. Paraskeva Association presented by Mrs. Mariana Cuceu. The St. Paraskeva Charity, organized in connection with Sts. Constantine and Helen in Chicago, continued its activity, especially through actions to help some orphanages in Romania. In 2018 and 2019 this association strengthened its activity with an impressive budget. The association's projects included: supporting the St. Onufrie Orphanage in Floresti, Cluj for the construction of two of the four houses designed to receive 80 orphans; scholarships for children from the Varlaam School in Iași; «St. Nicholas boots» for children's shoes from Moldova; financial support for the Settlement from Mărcuș Monastery, Covasna County, the Settlements from Găgești, Râșca, Glodeanu, Valea Plopului, the Center for Paralyzed Children from Giurgiu etc. Father Daniel Ene, Diocesan Secretary, read the official messages to: His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, His Grace Ioan Casian, Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Canada, His Eminence Archbishop Nathaniel and His Grace Andrei of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America, His Excellency, US President Donald J. Trump; and a letter to all governors where our Archdiocese has parishes. His Eminence Metropolitan Nicolae expressed his final thoughts talking about the mission of the Archdiocese in these times of trial and thanking the organizers and participants in the Congress.

The article is the first attempt to describe the office - organization and activity - of the provostry of canons regular of the Lateran in Kłobuck in the first half-century of its existence. The activity of the provostry office founded in 1454 on the initiative of Jan Długosz, the historian, is confirmed in sources from 1461, although the oldest of the surviving documents issued by it dates back to 23 April 1466. The office prepared documents issued by the provost and by the provostry chapter, but also provided services to external clients. Nine documents edited by the monastery office until 1500 have survived to our times. They also constitute the main source for the article. They do not hold ground-breaking significance for nationwide research on monastic office systems and medieval documents, but they are important for regional studies. They constitute an important contribution to the study of the culture-forming and civilizational role of the Kłobuck provostry, which at that time was an important church centre on the border of Lesser Poland, Greater Poland and Silesia.

The man's deification, or the restoration of human nature, historically fallen under the slavery of the sin and the death; it is not possible except through the embodied Son of God, at the fulfilment of time (Gal. 4: 4). In this demarche, history plays a positive role, for the man is born in it. Namely, the man becomes a historical personality, and also in history continues the sanctifying dynamism of the ecclesiastic life. History is not a prison – in an Origenistic sense –, which the man struggles to escape from, for the man has Christ, the God-Man and the Man- God, Who opens to the believers the perspective of eternity through the history's gate. With such a courageous initiative of an organic synthesis between history and theology, Father Dumitru Stăniloae consolidated the Church's faith when facing the danger of the Bolshevik atheism during World War Two by promoting the idea of restoration of history, of the creation, and the man through Jesus Christ.

The Precious Scroll of Watermelons (the earliest known manuscript is dated 1867) is a representative example of narrative texts used in the scroll recitation practices of southern Jiangsu since the nineteenth century. It uses a subject widespread in folklore to propagate belief in Bodhisattva Guanyin, a popular Buddhist deity, and thus it combines indoctrination with didacticism and entertainment. A comparison of several variants of the Precious Scroll of Watermelons (falling in between 1867 and 1989) demonstrates the evolution of its functions and cultural meaning in the modern practice of precious scrolls recitation, taking ‘telling scriptures’ of Changshu as an example.

The works of Procopius of Caesarea are generally perceived as one of the earliest and main Byzantine sources on culture of the early Slavs. Its various passages have repeatedly become subject of numerous interpretations and hypotheses. The present article adopts a different approach to this material and compares the information on the religion of the Sclavenes and the Antes with the beliefs of other barbarian groups mentioned by Procopius. The study demonstrates that the sentences on early Slavic religion are rather unique in Procopius’s works especially in respect to the variety of his topics. Furthermore, the evidence indicates that the most similar elements in his descriptions of religious practices connect the early Slavs and the inhabitants of the island of Thule. This does not mean, however, that they were perceived as related by Procopius as there are no similarities in the description of other cultural specificities. The textual evidence nevertheless indicates that Procopius described the religious practices of these two groups in similar terms.
