CONTEMPORARY RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR PEOPLE WITH HEARING DISABILITIES IN BULGARIA AS CHURCH SOCIAL PASTORAL CARE

CONTEMPORARY RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR PEOPLE WITH HEARING DISABILITIES IN BULGARIA AS CHURCH SOCIAL PASTORAL CARE

Author(s): Sylvana Pavlova / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

When people with disabilities join a social group, their presence is supposed to naturally raise the awareness of human rights. To be in touch with impaired people is usually an experience that helps others develop civic and religious virtues and skills. Uneven physical, psychical or social status provokes compassion, readiness to help, willingness to care, and motivates community to understand special needs better. Empathy is sometimes questioned by competition among people equal in some perspectives. Believers often contemplate on situations and interrelations among people of same denomination, who gather in order to pray or celebrate together, to support each other and walk side by side on the way of salvation. Like in civil society, in religious circles, there are rules and discipline that is supposed to assist families to raise their children appropriately so that minors can become independent persons, living in peace and equity with others. In the cases of hearing disability, clergy trained to deliver liturgical texts and communicate with their spiritual children by pictures, signs and gestures, or written texts rely on special pedagogues and sign language interpreters who actively support that mission. This paper represents my doctoral research on catechisation of children from special schools in a parish centre, compared to same care for youth, adults and elderly in Bulgaria and abroad.

Zalecenia zawarte w orzeczeniach o potrzebie kształcenia specjalnego uczniów z niepełnosprawnością wzroku i ich realizacja przez szkołę

Author(s): Magdalena Kokot-Rybińska / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

Decisions on the Need for Special Education have been functioning in Poland for over 30 years, and in an almost unchanged form (Journal of Laws No. 95, item 425 of September 7, 1991, Law on the Education System). It would seem, then, that the education system had enough time to adapt to this form of providing support to pupils of mainstream education. Unfortunately, despite numerous reforms, programs and directions for the development of the system of equalizing educational opportunities, a student with special educational needs still has to deal with numerous shortcomings or even omissions on the part of the teaching staff and the management of the school. The aim of this study is to present the difficulties faced by pupils with visual impairments in the implementation of the recommendations of the Decisions on the Need for Special Education in mainstream schools. This article was created based on the analysis of data collected through the proprietary questionnaire on the assessment of the implementation of recommendations on the need for special education by schools. The content of the recommendations contained in the decisions issued by the state Psychological and Pedagogical Counseling Centers, which were made available by the respondents, was also analyzed.

Czego o niepełnosprawności może dowiedzieć się uczeń z obrazków w podręcznikach szkolnych?

Czego o niepełnosprawności może dowiedzieć się uczeń z obrazków w podręcznikach szkolnych?

Author(s): Angelika Greniuk / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

The visual dominates over the text – modern man homo videns prefers the image, which is quicker and easier for him to assimilate, it also has more significance than the word. The image, like the text, carries its own message, creating a way of knowing and perceiving a given reality (Szpunar, 2008; Sztompka, 2005). School textbooks contain many visual elements, providing a separate and additional source of information. Disability and people with disabilities are presented visually very rarely. Nevertheless, it is possible to establish the ways and messages of depicting disability in school textbooks and to determine what students, including students with disabilities, can learn about disability from images in school textbooks. This article presents the results of a study of this issue. It is part of the results from a larger research project entitled. ’The (non-)presence list. Disability in school textbooks’, by Dr Marta Sałkowska, Magdalena Kocejko, Magda Szarota and Angelika Greniuk, implemented by Collegium Civitas in 2021.

Bu nedenle genel eğitim süreci izlenirken ciddi problemlerle karşılaşılmaz. Eğer çocuk gelişim göstergeleri açısından yaşıtlarıyla büyük farklılıklar gösteriyorsa eğitim türü farklılık gösterebilir. Bu farklılıkların sebebi özel eğitime gereksinim duymasındandır.

NEW PEDAGOGY IN THE CASE OF INCLUSIVE TEACHING. IS IT TIME TO END SEGREGATION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS?

NEW PEDAGOGY IN THE CASE OF INCLUSIVE TEACHING. IS IT TIME TO END SEGREGATION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS?

Author(s): Janez Drobnič / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

With the international moves towards more inclusion in education, there has been a demand for including teaching practice. Students with disabilities come together in a common class, fundamental division between special and normal schools, and thus the "normal" and the "special children" becomes irrelevant, so we face new categories and entities that follow an inclusive paradigm. This includes a common school space, diversity instead of difference, inclusion, educational assistance, and the like. This raises the issues and challenges for educators on how to manage the processes of teaching and learning, how to introduce new teaching strategies, use of the greater diversity of methods and tools, since a rich spectrum of student’s qualities and their needs is being established in a classroom. And it is a concrete question about what pedagogic approaches are useful for students with disabilities and difficulties in ordinary classes and whether there is a special pedagogy. Teaching approaches associated with special areas of special education needs in the classroom with different pupils are not directly transferable and usable, so we need to find approaches to be used for all students in “inclusive learning-friendly classroom”. Is it maybe the answer in inclusive pedagogy, a multidimensional inclusive/teaching/pedagogy that means different things to different users?

Mental Health Education Programs at Korean High Schools: The Investigation of Student Satisfaction with the Current School-based Programs and Means to Improve

Mental Health Education Programs at Korean High Schools: The Investigation of Student Satisfaction with the Current School-based Programs and Means to Improve

Author(s): Jiho Chang / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Instances of debilitating stress, depression and suicidal ideation have been broadly documented in academic settings in South Korea. In response, a number of mental health programs have been introduced by schools to help students manage the pressures of academic life and combat hidden narratives of anxiety and depression. Via a week-long survey, this study investigates student responses to various mental health education programs at high schools in South Korea. The voices of the students shed light on their educational needs in terms of positive mental health outcomes, the systematic factors influencing their discontent, and the general importance of creating more realistic and implementable solutions to common mental health concerns. The data from the surveys ware then combined with a case study analysis of mental health initiatives across different types of schools in South Korea and in the United States so as to gain insights from a complex, cross-cultural perspective. By acknowledging the points of view of the students as well as articles, academic papers and psychological reports, the research is better able to bridge the gap between the current idealistic model of mental health education and highly-customized best practices going forward. The findings are also impactful in terms of policy making and the introduction of student-centric, contextually sound, and sensitive formats and curriculums in the future.

The Applied Music Studio: Teaching Students With Special Needs

Author(s): Tracy Lee Heavner / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

With recent advances in technology, it is essential that music educators become knowledgeable of various software programs that could assist in the teaching of students with special needs in applied music lessons. Computer software music programs can be categorized into six areas: listening, transcribing, tuning, developing a steady tempo, accompanying and recording. When listening to music to be learned in the applied lesson, two applications that could assist special needs students are Spotify and YouTube. When transcribing music, Anytune and Tempo SlowMo are two programs that could assist students with transcription. Before beginning a lesson, it is necessary that students tune their instrument. InsTuner is an application that allows performers to chromatically tune any instrument. During a performance, it is essential that students keep a steady tempo. Pro Metronome is a software program that assists in developing this skill. When special needs students are learning their repertoire, Smart Music and Band in a Box are two popular software programs that will accompany them. When recording a performance, Audacity and Garageband are two software programs that will allow students to make a quality recording. Incorporating computer technology into the teaching of applied lessons allows students with special needs to progress at a faster rate and makes learning more exciting and enjoyable. With so many advances in technology occurring every day, applied music teachers should take full advantage of new software applications when teaching students with special needs so maximum learning can take place.

Dvojí role školního speciálního pedagoga

Dvojí role školního speciálního pedagoga

Author(s): Petra Baranová / Language(s): Czech Publication Year: 0

IMPLEMENTACIJA I SPROVOĐENJE KONCEPTA INKLUZIVNOG VASPITANJA I OBRAZOVANJA

Author(s): Željko Simeunić / Language(s): Bosnian Publication Year: 0

Inclusion as an approach based on the principles of respect for individual human rights refers to the process of increasing the participation of people and children with special needs in local communities, schools and other public institutions. Also, inclusive education is only one aspect of inclusion. The inclusive practice of education of children with special needs has expanded significantly in recent years, however, there are still significant limitations in the implementation of such education. The implementation and enforcement of the concept of inclusive upbringing and education is an extremely complex process, given that it necessarily involves the restructuring of the traditional school system. It is inevitable that inclusion requires new and significant challenges from the teachers, the school administration, the students themselves and their parents, as well as the entire social community. All of them have a demanding task - to respond to a large number of different needs of students.

INCLUSIVE DESIGN FOR DIGITAL LEARNING: THE UDL FRAMEWORK

INCLUSIVE DESIGN FOR DIGITAL LEARNING: THE UDL FRAMEWORK

Author(s): Mariya Monova-Zheleva,Yanislav Zhelev / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The prevalence of technology in all aspects of society, education, and work presents new opportunities to overcome challenges associated with vulnerable participants' inclusion. The proliferation of digital technologies in education, encompassing diverse technology-enhanced learning implementations like blended learning, online courses, simulations, virtual classrooms, and mobile learning, necessitates a paradigm shift based on the effective application of inclusive design principles and frameworks towards ensuring the learning environments, teaching materials, and educational services that are universally usable by all students, to the maximum extent possible. Researchers and experts in education and instructional design discuss and experiment with many proactive methodologies and instructional design approaches that prioritize the needs of a heterogeneous user base in digital learning environment development. The current paper presents some results and findings of a study that investigates globally recognized methodologies, principles, and frameworks for the design and development of inclusive digital learning environments carried out within the Erasmus+ project „Inclusive Digital Learning (Dig-2-Inc, 2022-1-FI01-KA220-HED-000090147).
