Çalışma Arkadaşlarına İlişkin Algıların Örgütsel Vatandaşlık Davranışı ve Sinizme Etkisi

Author(s): Vildan Hilal Akcay / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 1/2018

Using a sample of 202 employees from a broad cross section of organizations, this study investigated the relationships of employees’ and their coworkers’ organizational citizienship behavior, cyncism and psychological capital. Hierarchical linear modeling results revealed that coworkers’ psychological capital was negatively related to employees’ self organizational cynicism and positively related to organizational citizienship behaviors, with these relationships mediated by employees’ psychological capital. We also found that coworkers’ organizational cyncism was not related to employees’ psychological capital but was positively related to employees’ organizational cynicism. Finally, the possible reasons, implications and limitations of the study were discussed.

The Relationship between Leader-Member Exchange and Innovative Work Behavior: The Mediating Role of the Voice Behavior

Author(s): Alptekin Sökmen,Edip Sabahattin Mete / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2021

Purpose - This research aims to examine the mediation mechanism between leader-member exchange (LMX) and innovative work behavior (IWB) through employee voice behavior. Specifically, this research exploited the social exchange theory (SET) to examine the influence of LMX on IWB through employee voice behavior. Within this context, employees performing in higher quality LMX relationships with IWB are likely to exhibit more voice behavior. Design/methodology/approach – Self-reported questionnaires were applied to obtain data from 360 employees mainly with engineering qualifications from four companies in the defense sector in Turkey. Data were collected with a simple random sampling method in November and December 2020. Hypotheses were tested using correlation and regression analysis. The reason why the defense sector was selected for this study is the fact that the defense industry field has characteristics that make for a unique working environment. Findings - The findings show that LMX positively and significantly affects IWB and additionally voice behavior has a mediating role in this relationship. LMX had a significant influence on employee voice behavior that was ultimately associated with IWB. Finally, Voice behavior mediated the positive correlation between LMX and IWB, and stronger voice behavior boosted the indirect relationship. Discussion - This research reveals the effects of LMX and provides practical suggestions to help employees express their opinions in the organization to enhance innovation performance. Based on the SET, this research helps to understand how certain LMX which encourage high-quality exchange relationships with the supervisors and foster employee voice behaviors, may nurture employee IWBs in the organizations.

Purpose – The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of job security satisfaction and various variables on intent to leave in the context of hotel businesses and to test the hypothesis of the study in the light of these data. Design/methodology/approach – In line with the purpose of the study, a model was proposed to test whether job security satisfaction, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, job stress, age, gender, marital status, education status, department worked, monthly income, manner of work, position held, working hours and duration of employment significantly predicted the intention to leave. This proposed model was tested with binary logistic regression analysis. The dependent variable in the model is the intention to leave, and the independent variables are job security satisfaction, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, job stress, age, gender, marital status, education status, department worked, monthly income, manner of work, position held, working hours and duration of employment. The universe of the research consists of employees in five-star hotel businesses in Kundu town of Antalya. In calculating the sample size, the sampling table suggested by Yazıcıoğlu and Erdoğan (2004: 50) was used. In the table in question, it was stated that the sample size should be 384 if the universe volume was 100 million, with a significance level of 0.05 and an error rate of ± 0.05, and 477 people were included in the scope of the study. A questionnaire consisting of six parts was used in the study as data collection method. In order to fill in the questionnaires, most of the 25 hotel businesses in Kundu town of Antalya province were visited in the summer season of 2015. The data obtained from 477 valid questionnaires were analyzed using binary logistic regression analysis in statistical package program. Findings – The result of binary logistic regression analysis conducted in order to test the main hypothesis of the study suggests that female and single employees have much higher levels of intention to leave while married employees graduated from primary school who are committed to their organization, satisfied in terms of job security with high job satisfaction and income at the level of 0-1000 TL have low levels of intention to leave. Discussion – Today, there are major economic bottlenecks on a global scale. In these troubled days, institutions prefer to either lock their doors or shrink in order to continue their lives. Unfortunately, many employees face the risk of being unemployed in this process and their job security satisfaction decreases.

Purpose – The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between the readiness for organizational change and general job stress of nurses working in a public hospital that will be incorporated into the newly operational Ankara Etlik City Hospital and is expected to operate in a new organizational, technological and physical environment. Design/methodology/approach – In order to measure their readiness for organizational change, the Organizational Change Readiness Scale created by Holt et al. (2007) and adapted into Turkish by Çalışkan (2019) was used in the study. In order to determine the general job stress levels of nurses, the General Job Stress Scale created by De Bruin (2006) and adapted into Turkish by Teleş (2020) was used. The population of the research consists of 1193 nurses working in a public hospital, which is likely to be transferred to the newly opened Ankara Etlik City Hospital. The sample of the study consists of 306 nurses who agreed to participate in the study with the simple random sampling method. In the study, the data were analyzed with the statistic program. Results – In the study, it was determined that there is a weak, negative relationship between organizational change readiness and general job stress. It has been concluded that being ready for organizational change reduces general job stress. Discussion – The environments where organizational change is experienced are places where uncertainty is dominant by nature. For this reason, especially considering that employees are a part of the organization, it is important to include them in the processes by transferring the necessary information about organizational change in order to reduce their general job stress. It is thought that this study, which was conducted to determine the relationship between employees' readiness for organizational change and their general job stress, will fill the literature since there is no study on these issues in the literature.

Purpose – The purpose of the research is to determine the burnout levels of professional accountants working in Çorum and to analyze whether there was a correlation between burnout levels and demographic factors including age, gender, experience, and salary levels. Design/methodology/approach – The sample used for the research consists of 444 qualified accountants who are employed in Çorum. The data was gathered using the survey approach. After obtaining the required authorization from the room they belonged to, the questionnaire form was generated online and distributed to the participants' email addresses. There are two primary sections to the questionnaire form. The demographic factors that make comprise the research's independent variables are included in the first section. The Maslach Burnout Scale, which has 22 questions, was taken place in the second section. SPPP 25 was used to examine the outcomes that were obtained. The scale's internal consistency was evaluated using reliability analysis, and to test the research's hypotheses, chi-square analysis was employed. Results – The results of the research show that around 65% of individuals had high levels of emotional weariness, about 57% have high levels of depersonalization, and about 61% have low levels of personal success. It is essential to avoid overstating the proportions of people who experience mild burnout across all criteria. The participants' lower levels of emotional tiredness and personal success may be found to be correlated with their degree of education. Additionally, it has been demonstrated that the participants' ages and the severity of their depersonalization are related. The relationship between work experience and burnout, however, was not discovered. Finally, it became apparent that there was a statistically significant relationship or dependence between the individuals' degrees of emotional weariness and their income levels. This instance illustrates how low-income professionals are more susceptible to emotional fatigue. Discussion – Although there is a relationship between depersonalization and the age of the profession's members, the absence of a connection between experience and depersonalization suggests that other aspects of life may also be at influence. It may be inferred that individuals of the profession should take steps to enhance their income levels given that income level has an impact on emotional tiredness.

Purpose – This study was conducted to determine the moderator role of marital status in the effect of nursing job rotation stress level on work engagement. Design/methodology/approach – This research was conducted with the relational survey model, one of the quantitative research methods. A total of 555 nurses working in Şanlıurfa province participated in the research. In the study, survey method was used. In addition to the nurses' characteristics, the questionnaire includes the Nursing Job Rotation Stress Scale (NJRSS) and the Work Engagement Scale (WES). Findings – As a result of the research, it was determined that marital status had a moderating role in the effect of nursing job rotation stress level on work engagement. It was concluded that the effect of job rotation stress level on work engagement was more pronounced in married nurses than in single nurses. Discussion – Nurses, who are involved in every stage of the patients' recovery process, are exposed to stress for various reasons. Poorly planned job rotation is one of the factors that causes nurses to experience stress. The high stress level of nurses in job rotation not only reduces commitment to work, but also negatively affects work engagement. This situation differs depending on whether nurses are married or single. In married nurses, if the stress level of job rotation increases, the level of work engagement decreases more significantly. Based on this, it is recommended that job rotations be prepared according to a plan and according to the special situations of nurses (such as marital status and having children).

Author(s): Faruk GÜVEN / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 22/2023

Despite its frequent exploration across various disciplines and extensive coverage in the literature, the concept of inertia remains inadequately comprehended. This study undertakes an exploration of the notion of inertia, specifically within the realms of consumer behavior and marketing. Within this context, the study also references analogous concepts linked to consumer inertia as elucidated in contemporary literature, subjecting them to comprehensive examination. Moreover, this research endeavors to illustrate how an abstract concept like consumer inertia can be quantified and conceptualized, drawing upon insights from existing scholarly works. The research findings indicate that the confusion regarding the concept of consumer inertia and related concepts continues. Additionally, it is important to emphasize that consumer inertia plays a pivotal role in shaping a country's economy and influencing the growth and innovation within associated industries. Moreover, it is worth noting that businesses often conflate the concept of consumer inertia with customer loyalty. In conclusion, at the culmination of this study, the research findings are critically assessed in relation to the discovered insights, and suggestions for future research directions are put forth. It is anticipated that this study will offer a comprehensive viewpoint to researchers engaged in empirical investigations across diverse sectors.

CULTURE IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBAL HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

CULTURE IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBAL HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

Author(s): Angela Minova,Aleksandar Blazeski / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

Working and earning from the comfort of your home is a possibility that is going viral nowadays. Everyone with several years of working experience has the chance to find a suitable remote job with decent earnings; therefore, offices have started to become an unnecessary expense. Remote companies have monitoring systems that monitor the results employees are expected to reach, so the employees are aware that working from home will not change their level of productivity. However, working from the office is a very pleasant and learning experience. Video conferences are unlike meetings in person, where you can witness body language and face expressions while talking to people. At the same time, you can communicate, exchange experiences, network, and be uplifted while in the office. Working from the office gives you the opportunity to meet people from different cultures in person. Sharing the space where you spend your day with people who have different backgrounds means having the capability to adapt to different styles and ways of functioning. This study examines the crucial role that cultural diversity plays in the workplace, followed by the HR methods that management implements for the purpose of harmony within the organization. The significance of culture in molding and impacting worldwide Human Resource Management (HRM) practices has grown in today's linked and ever-changing economic landscape. This study explores the complex relationship between culture and global human resource management (HRM), looking at how cultural differences affect hiring, selection, training, performance reviews, and employee interactions, among other HRM-related activities. This study attempts to offer insights into practical methods for handling cultural differences in a global Human Resources Management setting by analyzing the benefits and difficulties brought about by cultural diversity. This study advances knowledge of the challenges of managing cultural diversity in multinational corporations by drawing on pertinent theoretical frameworks and empirical research, leading to the eventual development of more inclusive and successful HRM strategies worldwide.

ON ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE IN THE WESTERN BALKANS: A REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE

ON ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE IN THE WESTERN BALKANS: A REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE

Author(s): Gordana Nikčević / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

This paper reviews literary sources by highlighting studies that explore various aspects of organizational culture in Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia. We have chosen this approach because these countries were once part of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia, where similar understandings and value systems regarding organizational operations were long established. The value systems that emerged are undoubtedly a result of the transition processes that these countries underwent, shifting from socialist economic systems to market economies. In all the states that belonged to the unique area of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia, a nearly identical understanding and long period of time established the same or similar business systems. After the collapse of the country and the formation of independent states, each country went through the same path of transition and found itself in an objectively difficult position. The transition manifested itself through economic transformation, primarily the affirmation of private property, followed by frequent minor economic changes, changes in regulations, political turmoil, crises, and disasters. Therefore, all of these factors had to impact the formation of attitudes, values and norms in the way employees think and behave. The formation of organizational cultures in their companies retained certain specificities that are the result of their national cultures. Research into organizational culture literature reveals that many authors approach the study of this phenomenon by focusing on its impact on organizational performance. The increased importance of theoretical research into organizational culture in different contexts, as demonstrated in this work, stems from the need to consider the management strategy structure within enterprises. Organizational culture influences nearly all aspects of business operations. It affects, to varying extents, key elements such as business strategy, organizational structure, performance style, and company change. It shapes the entire organizational framework, making it a critical factor in business success. The success of many companies has reinforced the belief that a strong organizational culture is crucial for achieving business success. According to this perspective, a strong organizational culture, characterized by a cohesive set of values, beliefs, and behavior patterns, leads to higher productivity and better goal achievement. This success is attributed not to financial capital or cheap labor but to the strength of the organizational culture.
