A Syriac Christology and Polemics Against the Jews: a theology of Aphrahat

A Syriac Christology and Polemics Against the Jews: a theology of Aphrahat

Author(s): Ábrahám Kovács / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 2/2009

The purpose of this study is twofold. First, it sets the historical context in which Aphrahat wrote his Demonstrations and deals with the interesting relationship between his writings, ‘against the Jews’ and the Sassanian persecution of Christians. It also treats his refutation of the Jewish charges. Secondly, it addresses his ‘unique’ view of christology which is not in line with the Nicene decision concerning one aspect yet at the same time it is congruent with it. The paper also tries to point out that his view on christology was ‘unique’ but not exceptional in the Early Church.

Preacinstirea Născătoarei de Dumnezeu reflectată în imnografia Praznicului Adormirii Maicii Domnului

Author(s): Marius Emilian Făgădaru / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 02/2019

The doctrine about the Holy Virgin Mary forms a substantial and a very important chapter of Christian theology, which has been enriched, analyzed and synthesized, in different contexts, by some Theologians and specialists in Mariology. The figure of the Mother of God is presented in the entire life of the Church, although we are speaking about the internal or the external liturgical service. She has occupied a determinant place in the heart of the believers, in personal piety or godliness, even from her life and especially after Her Assumption. This article tries to analyze the elements of the hymnography from this feast of the Assumption of Virgin Mary, to demonstrate the significance of this Holy feast and also the importance of the person of Holy Mother of God in the liturgical and sacramental life of the Orthodox Church.

Catehezele Sfântului Simeon Noul Teolog – diagnosticarea unei probleme ecleziale

Author(s): Ciprian Ionuț Joița / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 02/2019

Saint Simeon The New Theologian is known in the Orthodox theology and beyond by his insistence and clarity with which he wishes to debate and analyse problems of the spiritual Christian life, often overlooked by the previous theologians or perhaps entrusted by them to a discretion of alloing each person to respond only in front of its own conscience. In his striking words, St. Simeon first unveils the serious problems of assuming, living and understanding the biblical teachings in the Constantinopolitan society of his time, problems that were the triggering factors of his spiritual discourse of that period, but which reflect so many human weaknesses present among believers all the time, up to our time. By this the article tries to emphasize the importance of his teachings for current Orthdox Theology.

Vůle Boží ve františkánské spiritualitě

Vůle Boží ve františkánské spiritualitě

Author(s): Willibrord-Christian van Dijk / Language(s): Czech Issue: 1/2020

Author(s): Zdzisław Lec / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2020

In the introduction I explain such terms as „the Sacred Heart of Jesus”, „spirituality” and „priestly spirituality”. In the article, I respond to the following questions: What can we learn at the school of Sacred Heart of Jesus? What the priest or the seminarian can rely on learning at the Sacred Heart of Jesus school? Which values can Sacred Heart teach? What Sacred Heart can rely to priestly spirituality? Replying to the questions mentioned above referring to the school of Sacred Heart and the priestly spirituality I claim in the article first of all that at Sacred Heart of Jesus school we learn to reciprocate huge and more mature love for everlasting love of Jesus that He shows the whole world and the creation constantly. Next, I prove that at Sacred Heart of Jesus school we learn different kinds of prayers. We pay special attention to Eucharistic Heart of Jesus. We are aware that we enrich and reinforce priestly spirituality by daily, longer adoration of Blessed Sacrament. I convict subsequently that at school of Sacred Heart of Jesus we learn from Good Shepherd the priestly service doing with love, patience and courage. I claim that at school of Sacred Heart we learn to care for purity of priestly heart and to give the whole of it to our Lord. Finally, I endeavour to prove that at school of Sacred Heart of Jesus we learn an appropriate reference to Mary Mother of Priests and the appropriate attitude to the saints.

Implicațiile inconștientului în transmiterea credinței

Author(s): Călin Drăgeanu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 01/2020

Knowledge Society is characterized by some aspects which modify the way in which we approach the daily realities. In this regard, the development of IT&C technologies and the usage of knowledge, as fundamental resource for the new economy, allow the development of a context that solicits new approach modalities of the way in which faith is transmitted. Complementary, environmental problems and massive migration of population create new challenges for the way in which faith transmission is treated. Thus, in this new context, it is necessary to reapproach the way of faith transmission due to the new challenges. To realize this, it is required to focus the attention on the human and to study his deepest dimension. Consequently, the approach of the deepest human dimension imposes also the study of the unconscious. The study of the unconscious is necessary because it has influences in the way faith is transmitted and lived. The present exploratory study presents the possibilities in which the unconscious can influence the faith transmission through its specific processes and its symbolism.

A humanizmus az igei tudomány szolgálatában (II.)

A humanizmus az igei tudomány szolgálatában (II.)

Author(s): Dezső Buzogány / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 2/2020

The Reformation highly esteemed the classical scientific disciplines as far as they contributed to a better understanding of the gospel. The method was delivered by the Humanism and Renaissance. Consequently, the reformers, whose primary concern was studying the word of God in original (Hebrew and Greek), started to master both languages right from the beginning. Hebrew helped them to learn and understand God’s will in the Old Testament in its original setting, while Greek improved their grip on the message of the New Testament. When preparations for ministry had started in the Protestant universities, both languages were self-evidently taken over in the educational process. The present paper deals with Melanchthon’s appreciation of the Greek language.

Author(s): Adam Pastorczyk / Language(s): Italian Issue: 2/2020

Although more than half a century has passed since the adoption of the dogmatic constitution on the Church at the Second Vatican Council, a discussion continues in the Catholic Church and in ecumenical discussions about the correct interpretation of the conciliar expression „Ecclesia in et ex Ecclesiis”. The subject of this article, therefore, is an analysis of the conciliar and post-conciliar teaching of the Catholic Church and the ongoing theological discussion on the mutual relationship of the universal Church and the local Church.

Sztuka, twórczość artystyczna i modlitwa

Sztuka, twórczość artystyczna i modlitwa

Author(s): Janusz Królikowski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2020

One of the key questions with which contemporary theology has to deal is providing support for art, so that it could perform its tradition-honoured role of a „mediator” in relation between man and God. Works of art, especially paintings, have proven their unquestionable value in this respect more than once. The unique role of paintings finds its manifestation particularly in prayer which constitutes a privileged place of meeting between man and God. Artistic creativity in its internal dynamism may constitute substantial aid in this respect, since it not only provides the believers with actual visualisations of religious themes, but also conveys the example for man of how to go beyond oneself, which plays the fundamental role in religion and spirituality.

Author(s): Gergana Dineva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 26/2020

The present text outlines one possible interpretation of the Augustinian concepts of freedom and free will. What at first glance seems paradoxically incompatible within Augustine’s position, could be viewed as a result of his attempt to bring into line in the most consistent way the teachings of Scripture, especially of the New Testament, with the inherited powerful substantial-naturalist philosophical tradition of the Ancient thought. It is this specific hybridity of Augustine’s context that allows him to create a solid bridge between the classical Platonic-Aristotelian onto-realist philosophy of man and the Late Medieval philosophy of man as an ens morale.

The sacraments of the Christian initiation have been the main point of an intense debate in the ecumenical movement in the last years. There is still critical literature about the sacraments of the initiation brought out of the bilateral and multilateral ecumenical meetings. However, the sacrament of the confirmation has not found the right place in the initiation triad, due to the concordances and discordances in the conception of the confirmation and the Christian initiation that are found in churches. Every single church community has presented its peculiar way to understand and give the confirmation by means of the sacramental liturgy process. The main goal of this research is to highlight the relationship between the baptism and confirmation in this chronological order, and between the Eucharist and these two sacraments. This close relation among the three sacraments is shown by means of several liturgy models which advocate the restoration of the ancient order of the Christian initiation.

Teologia w poszukiwaniu kryteriów prawdziwości religii

Teologia w poszukiwaniu kryteriów prawdziwości religii

Author(s): Krystian Kałuża / Language(s): English,Polish Issue: 20/2020

Author(s): Sebastian Duda / Language(s): Polish Issue: 683/2021
