Swastyka – kilka refleksji na temat symbolu

Swastyka – kilka refleksji na temat symbolu

Author(s): Anna Zasuń / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2011

The swastika is one of the most long-lived and, at the same time, obscure symbols. Its origin, as well as the interpretation of its meaning, interest many theorists, just like the phenomenon of the contemporary reception where the swastika lost the original positive meaning and has become a symbol of perhaps the most tragic period of modern history associated with the existence of Nazism. This article presents two perspectives of interpretation of swastika – firstly, it included universal and widespread throughout the world historical (and evenprehistoric) meaning and attempts to identify its source; secondly, it was presented a modern interpretation of swastika as an emblem of the Nazi ideology, as a symbol which “produces cultural context”, and also as a symbol whose over ten years’ relationship with the Nazis led to a loss in the European mentality of positive reactions associated with the ancient, benevolent motive of the swastika. Attention was also returned to the ambivalent reception of the swastika in the modern world – the history of the Western world dictates the emotional, negative attitude to the swastika symbol, while many eastern cultures (for example, the Middle and Far East) still uses this symbol in its original cultural background for the sense. Completion for this considerations is a reminder of key issues related to the concept of “symbol” and the recall of various terms (for example, gammadion), which are used to describe the swastika, or different symbols (for example, a cross or a spiral), with which the swastika is sometimes combined.

L’art, l’artiste et la presse: les armes de la propagande et de l’idéologie communiste en Roumanie. L’exposition Flacăra, 1948

Author(s): Alexandra Clara Ianc / Language(s): French Issue: 3-4/2023

After the proclamation of the Romanian People’s Republic in December 1947, a new direction in art developed. The Flacăra exhibition marks the beginning of Soviet-style socialist realism, which gradually takes hold of the Romanian art scene. The press played an essential role in the establishment of realism and exercised a particular form of control. The Communist Party realised that art and the press could be a powerful tool to convey the Marxist-Leninist ideology. The article analyses the press discourse on the works presented in Flacăra.

Zmieniające się przepisy dla winnic butikowych w Polsce

Zmieniające się przepisy dla winnic butikowych w Polsce

Author(s): Michał Świdnicki / Language(s): Polish Issue: 4/2023

Despite unfavourable weather conditions for the development of vines in Poland, the number of vineyards, especially small, so-called “boutique” vineyards, is growing exponentially. The aim of the article is to show how the changing Polish and EU law helps or creates barriers for running this type of vineyards. The evaluation of wine market regulation from the point of view of the criterion of economic freedom and competition law is the main research objective of the study, and the formulated theses are referred to in the conclusions in the conclusion. The article is based on the sources, which were the laws and regulations in force between 1948 and 2022. The regulations creating barriers to the operation of boutique wineries include, among others, the regulations contained in the “Wine Act” of 2004 imposing a requirement on winery owners to have their own laboratory facilities, appropriate technological lines or obtain permits from the Minister of Agriculture. The current regulations are less restrictive for small wineries, which does not change the fact that there are still a number of barriers to their operation.

ОБАВЕЗНО ТЕЛЕСНО ВАСПИТАЊЕ: СКРИВЕНА ПРЕДВОЈНИЧКА ОБУКА У КРАЉЕВИНИ ЈУГОСЛАВИЈИ

Author(s): Marko B. Miletić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 2/2023

I n the 1930s, the European continent was dominated by the fear of a new war, so almost all countries began to pay special attention to war preparations. In this context, great attention was paid to youth and their physical and military training. The Kingdom of Yugoslavia, faced with many recruits unfit for military service, joined the European trend by introducing compulsory physical education into the social life of students and out-ofschool youth. This wording concealed the true nature of the new institution, namely pre-military education. Although the legislative solution was ideal in theory, in practice it had several weaknesses that did not allow the development of compulsory physical education. The legislature overlooked several important issues. First, there was a lack of trained teachers to teach the inmates. In addition, the law placed an excessive burn on the municipalities, which were unable to solve all the problems of organizing compulsory physical education, especially the material ones, since they were responsible for providing space and compensating teachers. The army also did not do everything in its power to provide the best possible support for pre-military training especially since the question of equipping the courses with weapons was not settled until before the April War began. Finally, the young people looked for ways to avoid the new obligation, so that less than half of the obligated participated the holiday courses. For this reason, the work results achieved were also not satisfactory

März 1939 — Schicksalsgrenzstein in der Historie der TschechoslowakeI

Author(s): Otakar Petrik / Language(s): German Issue: 1/1989

The document discusses the history of Czechoslovakia, highlighting its establishment post-World War I and its development into a democratic state with a strong industrial and agricultural base. It details the impact of the global economic crisis of the 1930s, the rise of Hitler's power in Germany, and the subsequent threat to European stability and Czechoslovakian statehood. The Munich Agreement of 1938 is described as a betrayal, leading to the annexation of Czechoslovakia by Nazi Germany in March 1939 and the onset of severe persecution and oppression, including the closure of cultural institutions and forced labor. The document also covers the broader context of World War II, the support of fascist forces in Spain, Italy's invasion of Ethiopia, and the eventual turning point in the war with the help of Allied forces, leading to the liberation of Czechoslovakia in 1945. It concludes with the post-war recovery and the preservation of cultural heritage, including Jewish monuments and children's drawings from Theresienstadt, serving as a reminder to prevent the recurrence of such tragedies.
