DIALOG KULTUR NA PRZYKŁADZIE DWUDZIESTU ODSŁON MIĘDZYNARODOWEGO FESTIWALU MUZYKI SAKRALNEJ GAUDE MATER W CZĘSTOCHOWIE (1991)2010)

Author(s): Marcin T. Łukaszewski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 3/2014

The paper describes the phenomenon of multiculturalism at the International Festival ofSacred Music Gaude Mater in Częstochowa. The festival has been running since 1991. Itincludes a variety of artistic events, most of them sacred music concerts (Gregorian chant, early music, Orthodox, Polish music from all historical periods, and premieres). The festival also promotes the musical culture of Jasna Góra. The special feature of the festival is its multiculturalism involving the presentation of non-Christian sacred music. In the years 1991-2010, the festival featured Jewish, Muslim, Egyptian, and African music. The dialogue between cultures also facilitates connections between high and mass culture. This is accomplished through various combinations of gospel, jazz, pop elements with classical music. In addition, the attempts of dialogue between different cultures furnish a number of non-musical events, such as theatre performance, arts exhibitions, and conferences.

An examination of Clara Schumann’s musical salons and the research problems that occurred

An examination of Clara Schumann’s musical salons and the research problems that occurred

Author(s): Marlene Priller / Language(s): English Issue: 03 (30)/2016

Clara and Robert Schumann were connected very closely to the culture of the musical salons serving young and ambitious musicians and composers. Clara Schumann’s life is documented very well, but there is only a very small amount of literature dealing with her activities in the musical salon. This paper aims at providing an insight into the different circles Clara as well as her husband organised. The existent and non-existent source material is discussed and, by doing that, the current state of research on this subject is elaborated. Furthermore, this paper endeavours to point out the difficulties of research on this topic. That part is followed by a closer look at the characteristics of the private circles of the Schumanns during their years of marriage and the years after Robert Schumann’s death from 1856 to 1896.

Apart from the functional dimension, the pianist’s gesture, which cannot be compared to linguistic sign, is a medium of various meanings, therefore it plays an important role in the extraverbal process of communication between the pianist and the audience during the piano recital. It is stated that the agreement between pianists, as representatives of airtight world of classical music, and a crowd of aesthetically open-minded people, lies in the sphere of body and gesture. The author outlines some proposals on how to define a musical gesture and how to examine it. It is proved that the gesture is a powerful tool in the pianist's hands and that the arsenal of emotionally-communicative gestures during the piano performance process is enormous. Immensely important in the gestural context is coherence and naturalness. There exists a contradiction between the reflections derived from the modern performance practice and the common knowledge of the majority of piano teachers, caused by numerous 'historical misunderstandings'. A brief study of selected gestural cases (Franz Liszt, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Sviatoslav Richter, Emil Gilels, Lang Lang, Martha Argerich, Yuja Wang, Waldemar Malicki) was done.

Od elektronicznej muzyki do elektronicznego obrazu. Exposition of Music – Electronic Television Nam June Paika

Author(s): Maryla Zając / Language(s): Polish Issue: 04 (31)/2016

Nam June Paik (1932–2006) is now considered to be the most influential creator in visual arts. He is said to be the first artist who presented television as a source of artistic experience. However, nowadays many people forget about his musical beginnings. Starting as a musician, he was inspired by, for example, John Cage, whose philosophical way of thinking had a positive impact on Paik’s future experiments with music and objects. Exposition of Music – Electronic Television (1963, Wuppertal) was artist’s symbolic transfer from music to visual arts, presenting prepared pianos together with prepared TV’s. The article presents the exhibition as well as the environment created by Paik, showing the equality, importance and impact of two not so different kinds of art.

Pieśniowe interpretacje wybranych wierszy Paula Verlaine’a. Analiza porównawcza utworów Ireny Wieniawskiej oraz Gabriela Faurégo, Claude’a Debussy’ego i Maurice’a Ravela

Author(s): Anna Al-Araj / Language(s): Polish Issue: 02 (33)/2017

The aim of this article is to interpret songs by Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and a less-known composer − Irena Wieniawska (1879−1932), based on the same poems by Paul Verlaine. In the first part of this paper, the relationships between Wieniawska, Fauré, Debussy, Ravel and Verlaine are subsequently described. Then, the author makes a comparison between selected songs by French composers and Madame Poldowski, indicating main similarities and differences. The final part consists of some remarks related to the fact that Wieniawska fulfills features of the French mélodie very strictly. This is why her songs seem to be more traditional, not so allusive and sophisticated as Debussy’s or Ravel’s vocal works

Resurse educaţionale în programe de învăţământ la distanţă din domeniul muzical

Author(s): Nedelcut Nelida,Ghisa Lucian / Language(s): English,Romanian Issue: 1/2016

The educational resources in distance learning programs are a key element in the effectiveness of this type of teaching. Printed materials along with those created in the electronic environment facilitate learning in an individualized way, requiring the assistance and coordination of the course tutors. The new ways of presenting the content make learning flexible and attractive, more adapted to the needs of adults, in the sense of being possible without the constraints of time, space, and pace of life. The production of resources in the education system requires the prior training of the authors and passing through distinct phases in their configuration: their structuring into a specific shape, generating texts and illustrations, the design of materials, preparation and printing, the design of applied materials. The Distance Learning Department organizes those educational resources at the Gh. Dima Music Academy, based on an adequate infrastructure and on highly skilled human resources. This study analyzes the way in which didactic materials are made, the level of accessibility of the courses being related to the statistics conducted through questionnaires, which were created with corrective purpose and for the continuous improvement of the educational contents.

Author(s): Behrin Shopova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2018

Mevlid is one of the basic ritual complexes in the culture of the Turks in Bulgaria and is practiced by all Muslim communities. It is believed to be religious in nature and is an immanent part of the system of calendar and family rites. Mevlid first appears among Sufi Muslims, but soon becomes an element of the traditional Suni rites. The article follows the appearance and the diffusion of the rite and further compares Mevlid in mosque practice with its performance in the village tradition by revealing the specifics of the ritual as it is performed in the village of Gorna Hubavka, Targovishte region. The use of a text which differs from the conventional one, the appointment of specific months in the religious calendar for the performance of the ritual, the inclusion of authors songs not related to the Prophet, as well as the nature of the ritual stereotypes that are built form the local specifics of the ritual in the village. The analysis of the Mevlid and its particular local characteristics opens the possibility for the study of a very important aspect of the culture of the Suni in Bulgaria. It reveals the mechanisms of functioning of the so-called Balkan Islam which differs substantially from the high Islamic religious culture.

Изграждане на творческата личност, като цел на възпитанието, и форми на принуда при нормативното възпитателно-образователно общуване

Author(s): Jordan Banev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2018

The present text proceeds from the concept of creative personality, which is defined by the creative talent intrinsic to every child. It is not related to a particular (artistic) activity, but to the primal capacity of every person to re-create themselves. From a pedagogical standpoint, such an assumption accepts that the upbringing of a person as a goal of instruction is conditioned by the nurturing of the creative gifts of the child. In school, group work requiers a group-appropriate approach, as well as the appropriation of regulative mechanisms by the system. The article describes some of them as functioning forms of compulsion, which disable the child to unfold its creative potential and contradict basic assumptions about education, which have remained unchanged from Antiquity to this day.

The article examines notated musical folklore collections with records from the first four decades of the 20th century kept in the Ethnographic Archive of the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum at the BAS. The archival musical folklore collections are a documentary testimony of a folklore repertoire which existed in a certain period of time as well as of the development of the process of documentation of folklore musical materials. Two archival documents, the only ones in the musical biographies of the people who recorded them, Neno Dimov and Tsanko Tsankov, are presented and analyzed. The first document is a valuable description of the richness of the folklore repertoire of urban/rural musical environment and represents a stage of the development of the musical and folklore research and analytical work of the time. The identification of the author of the second archival collection reveals a remarkable figure of the Bulgarian musical past together with the precise and critical reading of the musical theoretician and composer Dobri Hristov in his hand-written review. The significance of this documentary material refers to the broad context of the cultural musical history and the rationalization of the processes in the development of the musical folklore studies.
