A munkaerőpiaci esélyeket meghatározó kompetenciák és értékek a pályaorientáció folyamatában

A munkaerőpiaci esélyeket meghatározó kompetenciák és értékek a pályaorientáció folyamatában

Author(s): Ibolya Czibere,Irén Sipeki / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 1/2019

Career choices are a tool of integration and social mobility. Successful career choices support the reduction of unequal opportunities among disadvantaged young people. For this reason studying and analysing secondary school students’ personal competences and their social and work-related values is indispensable. We approach the development of labour market competences among secondary school students during career orientation via the analysis of the individual, cultural and social background of the career choice. For the research we chose a thriving, industrially developed region of Hungary, where good opportunities for study and employment are available for young people entering the job market. In the research the competence analysis of the students took place with the help of commonly used career orientation questionnaires, tests and psycho-diagnostic scale. Altogether 599 students were involved in the survey in the 2003/2004 academic year and we could use 317–424 valid test results for the research. Based on the previous results a repeat survey was carried out in the 2014/2015 academic year involving 163 students from 1 class of each school. The participating schools were grammar schools and vocational schools maintained by foundation, state or church (one of each for both types of school). Also, two vocational grammar schools with different maintenance principles participated. The research found significant differences in labour market related competences among the students, which are most marked between programmes offering or not offering the graduation examination, and which create a gap in terms of integration and equal opportunities.

Uwagi w sprawie strategii zachowania lingworóżnorodności w kontekście bioróżnorodności

Uwagi w sprawie strategii zachowania lingworóżnorodności w kontekście bioróżnorodności

Author(s): Stanisław Puppel / Language(s): Polish Issue: 3/2019

The article is concerned with the problem of natural language preservation and maintenance as an important challenge of present-day humanity. It is shown that a big numer of living languages, referred to as ‘linguodiversity’, are facing either dormancy or extinction and are in need of preservation just like the need to preserve ‘biodiversity’, or the existing variability of life on Earth, is at present a major challenge of humanity. It is argued that ecology has worked out a feasible framework for implementing a number of strategies to champion this task and that ecolinguistics may directly benefit from the present shape of ecology and adapt these strategies to the task of the preservation of linguodiversity. Some preservation strategies and ecolinguistic services, based on their ecological analogs, are briefly discussed.

Élelmiszerfogyasztás és kulturális tőke

Author(s): Luca Kristóf,Boldizsár Megyesi / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 4/2020

In our paper we analyse the relationship between cultural capital and attitudes toward food consumption. Our work is based on research inspired by earlier findings of Veblen and Bourdieu. Studies on consumption found a connection between food and cultural consumption (Prieur, Rosenlund, és Skjott-Larsen 2008). We argue in our paper that this pattern can also be seen in Hungary: for the consumers of high culture, consumption of high quality, healthy and ethically produced food is also important. In our study we analyse the differences in attitudes toward food-consumption among social groups using the results of a representative survey conducted in 2018 in Hungary. We aim at understanding the most important aspects of food consumption for consumers with high cultural capital, and what is the role of (increasingly highlighted) ethical and conscious consumption in the habitus of such consumers.

A demenciával élőket gondozó családtagok életminősége

Author(s): Marianna Kopasz / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 4/2020

The study examines the quality of life of carers of people with dementia being cared for at home (i.e. family carers). No comprehensive study has been carried out on family carers of people with dementia in Hungary so far. Thus, the purpose of this study was to lay the foundations for an empirical study to be conducted on family carers of people with dementia in Hungary. Using the method of narrative literature review, as well as relying on existing systematic reviews, the study seeks to answer the following questions: how can care-related quality of life be measured; what are the peculiarities of providing care for persons with dementia; and what factors were identified as affecting the care-related quality of life of family carers of people with dementia? Also, the study aims to review the data available on people with dementia in Hungary, and to point out the data gaps and areas requiring further research.

Temperature development of selected materials in a reduced model – experimental test

Temperature development of selected materials in a reduced model – experimental test

Author(s): Jana Müllerová,Maroš Krajčír / Language(s): English Issue: 38/2020

The work is focused on an experimental test of temperature development in a scale model. Various types of combustible materials were used in the test in combination with the spruce wood. The work points to the influence of the fuel source on selected parameters of a fire in an enclosed space. The course of a fire is influenced by various factors. The course of a fire in an enclosed space differs from the course of a fire in an open space. As a part of the overall development of the fire, the temperature of the fire is affected. Therefore, one can state that the parameters affecting the development of an internal fire also have a direct effect on the temperature development. The main goal of this work is to compare different types of materials in terms of the properties they manifest during a fire. The practical part contains the analysis of the materials used in the experiment. Description of the scale model and of the measuring control panel are the content of another part of the work. In the end there is a comparison of the individual temperature curves.

Author(s): Irena Grochowska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2008

After analysing the above answers we can deduct some results, which confirm certain behaviour in girls that can be scientifically explained. A survey helped in establishing ecological consciousness and was a help in characterizing a survival persona. Looking at the answers with inclusion of two different sexes we can follow differences in the views concerning environmental protection, the survey results clearly show a difference in approach to the natural environment depending on the sex. Women more clearly see the beauty, harmony and set order in the environment. Nature astonishes them and is a guarantee of life. Analysing the survey results it is not possible not to see the differences in viewing the natural environment. Quoting Estes we can say that mature woman (surviving woman) looking at a forest sees a home for herself and other people, whilst others looking at the same forest imagine cutting down trees and making money on it.Clean environment allowing life is like air necessary to live and you can only breathe deeply with clean air. It is similar with woman’s psyche where a mechanism of full breath operates and forces her to breathe in the fresh air. The research results confirmed that girls show more concern about harmony and complexity of the natural world and definitely at every opportunity become protectors of life. So a smaller extend that boys they support technological and technical development, they do not see it as a solution to problems connected with degradation of environment. If you would like to separate pro environment personality types taking into account these characteristic for boys and girls, based on the performed survey, we can present: Rational type , scientific thinker and technocrat, consumer, which is dominant in boys answers and emotional type, esthetic environmentalist which is dominant within girls answers. Woman can show man how to admire nature, how to develop sensitivity and open ones eyes to new perspectives, whose theoretical author is often he himself. It is women who with their hearts read and introduce into life philosophical life and written theological works whose authors are men.Woman’s task is activity connected with protecting the wisdom of soul, not to accept abnormal state for normal and to hale the courage to celebrate natural forces with elements of Her soul and life, which a priceless treasure of each woman. When women do not follow their voice when intervening in unacceptable situations her views fade, her nature fades and natural world. Love fades as well as the will to repair the world and harmony with nature, The Word lacks fresh air and water, but also the voice of consciousness. Research I have performed confirmed the thesis I had made and allows to precise the desired personality characteristics, needed to shape a survival personality.

Author(s): Jacek Tomczyk / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2008

Every myth, regardless of its nature, refers back to some event placed in illio tempore. By this fact it constitutes a pattern to all situations and activities in which the event may reappear, the myth can degrade into an epical legend, a ballad or a roman, but it can also survive in a limited form in superstitions, customs and longings without losing neither its structure nor its meaning. In the history of mankind, the perception contributed to the formation of culture - the total of artifacts, both material and immaterial (spiritual or symbolic), these achievements, characteristic for particular society, constitute a model of social behavior. While interpreting the external world people relied on supernatural explanations to some extent, which depended on the level of intellectual development. Initially many facts were explained with the interference of dark, demonic powers, adopting diverse forms in people’s imagination, thanks to such interpretation of reality the vampire was born to existence. The vampire has undergone a peculiar evolution, the features of its character often changed and the figure was many times reborn in varied forms. Author(s): Ryszard F. Sadowski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2008

The understanding of the collapse of ancient civilizations is important for the understanding of very complex process happening in our civilization. The Earth is put in danger due to many reasons and some of them do not change throughout history. Because of the global range of human actions, the power reached by contemporary man is much more dangerous than it used to be centuries ago. Therefore, the understanding of the past collapses is crucial for the safety of our global village. The article shows the reasons for the collapse of the Greenland Norse civilization. It seems that the main reason was climate change but it also seems that the Greenland Norse could have survived, or at least postponed the collapse. The author indicates that cultural factors were the roots of ecological degradation and the lack of economic adaptation. The Norse knew the Inuit and their adaptive strategies but did not learn from them. It seems that the collapse of the Greenland Norse civilization was the choice of the Norse’s elite. The leaders kept the society in a risky balance in order to rule over them, but finally, the fragile equilibrium was shattered and caused the collapse.

The material forms the essence of a design and its function; The result affects the usage process, taste, preference, availability, cost and the future of the world. In addition to the physical, chemical and mechanical properties that the material will provide, it should be known that the strength or weaknesses of the acoustic and insulation should be determined with a professional approach in the decision-making process, together with the controllability, structural properties, technology applicability and sizing, the way they are available in the market, aesthetics and fashion elements as elements of taste. However, there are some materials that have been used in many different fields since the first human being, they are easily found, easily processed, evaluated in different ways and are subject to a fashion beyond their sustainability. Stone and wood are the main ones of these materials. In this study, wood material, which can be used with different qualities, is discussed. It is aimed to draw attention to the awareness of being able to respond to more than one need with one material, without disturbing the nature, by emphasizing the diversity of use and availability, with the awareness that the multifunctional properties of materials affect their sustainability.

Happiness Issue – Moral Aspects of its Biochemical Enhancement

Happiness Issue – Moral Aspects of its Biochemical Enhancement

Author(s): Zlatica Plašienková,Martin Farbák / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2021

The search for happiness is something that constitutes human existence from its beginning, and even though people have achieved unimaginable progress in science and technologies, they still have not found the secret of being happy. Transhumanist authors, headed by Mark Walker, believe we can reach happiness biochemically using specific drugs and without considerable side effects. They consider it to be our moral duty because it would increase the prosocial behaviour of people enhanced in that way, following research showing that the happier people are, the more useful it is for society. In this paper, we critically respond to the vision of biochemical enhanced happiness (bio-happiness). We follow the classic and modern authors in our analysis of what happiness is, and based on this analysis, we want to demonstrate why the biochemical enhancement of happiness is not a moral imperative these days. On the contrary, we offer the reasoning why such a vision of bio-happiness is not morally right, and why it bears the risk of losing the connection between happiness and finding the meaningfulness of life. We critically evaluate the absence of spirituality in the transhumanist understanding of man and the devaluation of her/his intrinsic values.

Gaining trust and remaining mentally sane while working from home

Gaining trust and remaining mentally sane while working from home

Author(s): Ráchel Surányi / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2021

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit us hard. It is not only difficult in terms of psychological and medical issues, but it has turned into an economic crisis as well. One of the most significant ‘side effects’ of the first wave was widespread remote work, which was not regular – many people had to work from home while also taking care of their loved ones (be they children or other family members, or friends). Our research – part of an EU-funded project on sustainable mobility – was carried out in the city of Szeged (Hungary) among seven companies/employers. As the project was strongly affected by the crisis, the research focused on the impact of COVID19 and the lockdown on remote work. How did remote work affect employees’ mental, physical, and social wellbeing? How did employers and employees deal with the new situation? What can we learn from this crisis regarding the relationship between remote work and mental health? To find answers to our questions, we used mixed methods, i.e., combined qualitative with quantitative methodology. This case study analyses the related difficulties and challenges from the employee point of view and sheds light on some of the good practices and measures which can be applied by other companies.
