Author(s): Batuhan Ayan,Ercan Yavuz / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 1/2018

Definitions related to the concept of organizational conflict have been made by many researchers. Looking at the definitions in the literature, it seems that the researchers approach the topic from different angles. Some researchers view organizational conflict as a problem to be solved, while others view it as an opportunity to increase organizational productivity. In order for the positive effects of organizational conflicts to be possible, the conflicts must be well managed. In order for conflict management to be successful, factors affecting conflict and behaviors exhibited by individuals in conflict situations should be analyzed. Zarządzanie szkołą w kontekście zdrowia psychicznego uczniów w obliczu kryzysu wywołanego pandemią COVID-19

Zarządzanie szkołą w kontekście zdrowia psychicznego uczniów w obliczu kryzysu wywołanego pandemią COVID-19

Author(s): Paweł Lipowski,Kamila Figiel / Language(s): Polish Issue: 3-4/2023

The worsening mental health of children and adolescents is a growing issue, both globally and – with some delay – in Poland. This is primarily due to the ever-increasing challenges in this area. The COVID-19 pandemic only exacerbated these problems, as psychological and psychiatric care receded into the background during a situation of the pandemic threat caused by the Sars-CoV-2 virus. At the same time, the level of fear, anxiety and stress associated with the real threat to health and life, as well as the forced social isolation increased, which only compounded with the pre-existing problems. Children and adolescents have been deprived of real contact with their peers, which is particularly problematic from the perspective of their proper psycho-social development and overall well-being. Moreover, in the initial stages of the pandemic, some were confined to their dysfunctional homes, cut off from the external environment (school, teachers, psychologists, friends), and therefore without support in this highly difficult situation. Now – thanks to widespread immunization – the pandemic situation is slowly stabilizing, so schools are returning to on-site education, but the emphasis is primarily on catching up with the material, and not necessarily on rebuilding the social ties. So are school principals in Poland aware of their students’ mental health issues? Are they aware of the new mental health challenges faced by children and adolescents? Do they have a plan to support the mental health of students in their charge? In the context of the aforementioned issues, the purpose of this article is to increase the awareness of the problem and to develop possible support plans for the mental health of students in the face of the existing health and social crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic that could be implemented by the school administrators in Poland. To research this notion, an online survey was conducted among school headmasters in Poland. The survey results and its conclusions may prove interesting – in particular – for the headmasters of educational institutions, school psychologists as well as educators, teachers, parents and anyone interested in education management and mental health of children and adolescents.

THE IMPACT OF LEADER POWER ON ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: A STRATEGIC APPROACH TO DECISION-MAKING

Author(s): Sry ROSITA,Feny TIALONAWARMI,Syahmardi YACOB / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2023

Leaders play a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of work programs and facilitating accomplishing of organizational goals. This study investigates the intricate relationship between leader power, decision-making, and organizational development. Drawing upon a quantitative approach, a structured questionnaire was administered to 386 civil servants to collect data. The empirical analysis employed the Smart-Partial Least Square (SmartPLS) software to examine the structural equation model. The findings substantiate the proposed model, revealing that decision-making partially mediates the association between leader power and organizational development. Interestingly, the direct effects of leader power and decision-making on organizational development are found to be more significant. These results underscore the paramount significance of effective decision-making and shed light on the nuanced interplay between leader power, the decisionmaking process, and organizational development.

INTERACTIVE ROLE OF STRATEGIC CLARITY IN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ORGANIZATIONAL CONFLICT MANAGEMENT AND STRATEGIC DECISION QUALITY

Author(s): Asahaq Naser HUSSAIN,Ali Hussein OLAYWI,Ahmed Abdullah AMANAH / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

. Different supervision methods usually lead to internal organizational conflicts, especially in a multiunit organization, such as The Iraqi Ministry of Interior (IMI). In this regard, Successful organizational conflict management (OCM) is fundamentally associated with Strategic Clarity (SC) in addressing such conflicts which is also linked to the Strategic Decision Quality (SDQ). However, the complexity of the abovementioned variables is understudied especially in the governmental security-service sectors. The present study provides a comprehensive analysis of the relationships between OCM, SC and SDQ in the IMI. A questionnaire, prepared for measuring the interactive role of SC in the relationship between OCM and the SDQ, was distributed among leaders and managers of that ministry. It was evident that SC significantly enhances the relationship between OCM and SDQ in the ministry, registering a substantial interactive effect of 0.25. The study concluded that the dimensions of SC amplify the strategic connection between OCM and the high-quality SDQ made by administrative leaders in the ministry. This emphasizes the need for further integration and activation of SC as part of the strategic vision, particularly in security challenges.

School Leadership and Management in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI): Recent Developments and Future Prospects

Author(s): Turgut Karakose,Tijen Tülübaş / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

Background/purpose. With the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI), it has become possible to invent computer systems that can perform human-like processes to tackle large data and solve complex problems. AI has manifested itself in the field of education through several technologies such as intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive teaching/learning, large-scale assessment and evaluation designs, predictive modeling and learning analytics, educational games. AI has incrementally begun to transform the ways teachers teach, students learn, and schools function with inevitable implications for school management and leadership. Materials/methods. This study aims to focus on these implications through highlighting possible contributions of AI-based innovations to school leadership and management based on a comprehensive review of early evidence. Practical implications. With its capability to process large datasets, engage in human-like cognition, thinking, and conversation, make decisions, and execute actions by this means, AI technologies offer several opportunities to improve school-wide leadership, practice open management based on the principles of transparency, participation, and digital skills, create the required synergy to achieve ever-changing educational goals by integrating teachers, students, and parents into educational processes. These technologies have also proven their capacity to help school leaders manage various technical tasks ranging from the management of food/transportation services, supply of instructional materials, human resource management, security, and student information processing. AI also enables learning analytics, or educational data mining, which allows for taking preventive actions and providing customized education by obtaining comprehensive data from students’ educational activities across a period. Conclusion. It is undeniable that the integration of AI-based digital technologies bears several opportunities and challenges for adapting the functioning of schools to the new conditions in the interest of students, teachers, and other stakeholders.

Will Artificial Intelligence (AI) Make the School Principal Redundant? A Preliminary Discussion and Future Prospects

Author(s): Turgut Karakose / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2024

Background/purpose. Developments in the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is full steam ahead in the wake of the fourth industrial revolution. One of the hot discussions over the exponential advancement of AI has been whether this ability of machines to accomplish tasks that require human intelligence could take over the roles of humans in the workplace and make the human workforce redundant. The field of education was no exception since AI technologies have made significant inroads into the realm of education. Materials/methods. Although the potential of AI to replace teachers with all the seismic shift it created in the teaching-learning processes has sparked passionate debates, arguments over the potential influence of AI on school principals is scarce. This paper is an attempt to start this debate by construing how recent developments in AIbased systems could impact the process of management in schools, with its outcomes for the role and the status of the school principal. Practical implications. We argue that, in school management, the integration of AI can facilitate the efficiency of administrative roles such as keeping/analyzing student records, decision-making, planning, budgeting, and communicating with staff or parents while at the same time improving the learning environment. When automated systems support these routine administrative duties of school principals, it will free up valuable time to handle more critical issues that require a “human touch” such as leadership. However, we signify the complementary role of humans and AI, suggesting a more symbiotic relationship in which both human and AI could bring in their own strengths and overcome their limitations. Conclusion. We suggest that principals will not become redundant but will be even more crucial actors in the creation of human-AI symbiosis by continuously updating their AI literacy, invoking the effective integration of AI into educational and managerial processes, and guiding the other stakeholders’ views and attitudes. However, principals have to realize that different times require different approaches, and their roles as school managers and leaders need to evolve in line with the changing realities of the new age of AI.

An Analysis of School-Based Management on Learning Achievement in Senegal Primary Education

Author(s): Yudai Ishii,Keiichi Ogawa / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2024

Background/purpose. School-based management (SBM) has gained international attention for the promotion of student learning and educational development. Senegal is one of the initiatives of Frenchspeaking African countries that adopted the move towards promoting SBM at the school level, but lacks substantial evidence of its effectiveness in enhancing educational quality. In addition, there has yet to be a clear consensus on the heterogeneity of SBM on learning achievement. This study aimed to examine the influences of SBM characteristics on learning achievement and investigate the relationship between them and students’ gender status in Senegal primary education. Materials/methods. The study adapted the framework on what matters most in marginalized autonomy and school accountability for better education results. It linked autonomy and accountability, requiring parents and the community to participate in and trust the school. The study applied a multilevel regression model using the cross-sectional dataset of Program d’Analyse des Systemes Educatifs de la Confemen (PASEC) 2019 learning achievements survey. Results. The study revealed that parental and community participation has a positive and statistically significant association with reading scores regardless of student gender. On the other hand, a positive correlation was found regarding information sharing with parents, and a negative correlation concerning school autonomy, but with no significant relationship to reading scores. Conclusion. Participation from parents and the community can improve student learning and mitigate learning gaps in gender status. The findings of this study are expected to provide insight into narrowing the gap in student learning, especially for neighboring countries facing similar issues to Senegal.

Architektura ośrodka pomocy społecznej w perspektywie kryzysów współczesnego świata

Author(s): Jarosław Rutkowski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2023

The article indicates that building an active social welfare center is a challenge in the face of the crises of the modern world. Therefore, building learners and conceptual social welfare centers is crucial for solving complex social problems of the modern world. In view of the panorama of burning crises outlined in the article, the need for subjective care for residents, especially those using the support of a social welfare center, was pointed out. It was emphasized that every citizen, regardless of their living condition, must be treated with appreciation. His participation and contribution to the reconstruction of our local and global world are important. Therefore, designing an open social welfare center that is dynamic to the challenges of the modern world requires a conceptual system defining the given architecture. It is determined by the interrelated components of organizational processes – ideological, programming, communication. Within the considered architecture, the network of relations binding the physical environment of the social welfare center is significant with human actions and experiences. This “between” as a combination of “in” and “among” expresses the spatial and temporal location of the actions taken. This perceived inter-space shapes shared experiences of caring for others. Then, within the imagination of the dialogue and the element of thinking, it is possible to design activities for the renewal of the modern world in a multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral way and to co-create optimal solutions to rebuild the life condition of people. This is reflected in tender actions embedded locally but intertwined globally. Building tender actions can be treated in the category of resistance, an active response to the life of residents in conditions of a specific order and formatted institutional practices. As a result, the recognized need to build and renew the world becomes a vitally important orientation for action. The aim of the article is a theoretical reflection on the architecture of a social welfare center in the perspective of crises of the contemporary world.

PROTOPIA JAKO NARRACJA I PRAKTYKA INNOWACYJNOŚCI MIEJSKIEJ W CZASACH KRYZYSÓW

Author(s): Artur Laska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 01/2024

The aim of the article is to present the main assumptions of protopia as a narrative and political practice on an urban scale. The author presents arguments pointing to the potential effectiveness of this concept of implementing public innovations, the diffusion of which determines the solution to overlapping urban crises, which are a manifestation of global challenges. The proposed interpretation is based on the integral theory of politics, but also refers to the empirical manifestations of the phenomenon in Polish reality.
