In this article the authors examine the current understanding of the foundations of the philosophy of education. Lately when it is spoken about human development and education and concretized that it is the perfection of its mind. And if at the end of the twentieth century the subject of educational impact was human being, consisting of social and biological entities, at the beginning of the XXI century the situation has changed. Advances in neuroscience (Risto Nааtаnеn, James Olds, Donald Hebb, Elkhonon Goldberg and others) allowed specifying the subject of the educational impact and identifying in a person the material organization that really makes him standing out from the world of living organisms. We are talking about the neural structures that are formed and developed in the human brain and which are not observed (and if they are observed, then in a different format and with different functional manifestations) in the brain of higher animals. We are talking about consistently evolving neural networks and subconscious consciousness which perform the corresponding functions: subliminal (unconscious) and conscious. If the consistent development of the structure of the human brain sees neuroscience, the development of the functions of this structure, considering psychology. Methods, ways and means of transmission of socio-cultural heritage from one generation to another explores pedagogy. Therefore, the philosophy of education that considers the impact of educational technology, global educational model should be based on the integration of research in neuroscience, psychology and pedagogy.

The method of functioning in old age is the consequence of the course of the previous developmental stages, choices made by people and the manner in which they resolved developmental conflicts of the earlier periods. In this context, ageing is not parting with life, but rather gives it a new meaning. The awareness of finiteness of existence and fear of death accompanying it may be for human, through experienced suffering, a road to learning the truth about human and the world, to discoveringtreasures of knowledge, experience and relations present in us and in the world. Death is a factor distinctive for old age which binds and structuralises experience. Consciousness of impending death unlocks and stimulates often traumatic contents of experience which were previously marginalised due to too high psychological costs. The vision of death releases these contents and includes them into the consciousness, in the result of which a new meaning of past life may be found. In this context, old age may be a period of the beautiful autumn of life which brings wisdom and allows to feel the true taste of experienced moments, a period of becoming fully human.

The aim of the study was to establish the relationship between perceived parental attitudes and the severity of posttraumatic stress symptoms in a group of teenagers – victims of road accidents. 72 adolescents (36 boys and 36 girls), aged 11‐17 (M=14,19 SD=1,45) participated in the study. All subjects as a result of an accident suffered various types of injures. Impact of Event Scale‐Revised to measure posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms and Parental Attitudes Scale to estimate perceived parental attitudes were used in the study. The results showed a weak relationship between mothers’ attitudes and severity of PTSD symptoms in a group of examined adolescents. In contrast, none of fathers’ attitude was related in a statistically significant way with the severity of these symptoms. The attitude of excessive demands of the mothers appeared a predictor of severity of PTSD symptoms in examined teenagers, expressed in general score of the Impact of Event Scale.

This particular article will report on the results of research on the topic of the proportions of being supported and showing support to others by parents of children with a lethal defect - in this case the Edwards Syndrome. The analysis has been narrowed down to parents of the said children who are also a part of an internet forum which helps relatives of children with lethal defects. On the basis of netnographic interviews conducted with the parents it was possible to identify how much support they have received, in which forms did they receive the said support and what was the dynamic of it. The support shown by the parents who received help on the forum has been analysed similarly. It has been observed that the parents which took part in the research have received more support than they have shown to others on the forum. What is more, the early stages of being on the aforementioned forum by the parents, where the ones where they received the most support but at the same time they have shown the least support to others.

The issues presented in this publication are situated within the framework of qualitative research. The research concerns negative aspects stemming from not experiencing motherhood present in the narrative of women aged 35-42 years old. The aim of the research is identifying the disadvantages of childlessness as perceived by mature women. The research was performed on 38 women. The criterion of the research sample selection, apart from age, was being unmarried (a woman’s marital status was “unmarried”, “divorced” or “widow”; women in cohabitational relationships were not excluded) and childless. The surveyed women were therefore asked the question: Do you notice some losses resulting from not functioning in the role of a mother? On the basis of central topics, i.e. topics that prevailed in the interviews, 5 response categories were determined: discrimination in the workplace, social stigma, discrimination in public space, not following the road leading to happiness and fulfilment, and loneliness in old age.

Today, in the age of post-accession mobility, when many Polish families experience separation of its members outlined by migration, the situation of families and children operating in them is changing. In numerous scientific publications devoted to this phenomenon, educators and psychologists’ attention is mainly focused on parenting difficulties manifested by this group of children, their failures in learning or emotions that accompany them after the departure of parents, while the works presenting this group of children’s relationships with peers are few. Therefore, one of the objectives pursued by the conducted research was to answer the question: what is the behavior of children from single-parent families in relation to their peers, due to temporary migration of their parents? The study involved 187 middle school students whose parents (one or both) were on gainful migration and 87 teachers - educators and 13 school counselors.

Article presents a theoretical analysis of Montessori’s concept of education for cognitive and socio-emotional autonomy. The main aim is prove a unique contemporary validity of theoretical and methodological aspects of this educational philosophy. First, the cycle of self-discipline development, as observed by Maria Montessori, has been described with reference to different forms of pedagogical actions, helping children to transform from perceiving classroom rules of behavior as external to self-direction, deeply grounded in internal needs for autonomy and selfrealization. Then, deep analogies between Montessori pedagogy and contemporary theories of self-regulation by B. Zimmerman has been shown. As a summary, “Decalogue of Montessori Teacher” has been reminded, as a set of rules for everyday educational work based on the principle of “desired non-interference”.

This study examined the psychometric properties of a Serbian translation of the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS – Serbian Form). Two different studies involving Serbian employed adults were conducted. In the first study (n = 374), the results of confirmatory factor analyses supported the four-factor structure of the scale and it is shown that the overall CAAS score and sub-dimension scores were highly reliable. The second study (n = 270) demonstrated the external validity of the instrument. Correlations with narcissism, career satisfaction, supervisory support, perceived social support, and burnout wereconsistent with the theoretical expectations and results of previous studies, suggesting good external validity of the instrument. The configural, metric, scalar, and residual measurement invariance of the CAAS – Serbian Form among two samples were established. It was concluded that the CAAS – Serbian Form has adequate psychometric properties, and hencecould be considered as a reliable and valid instrument for measuring career adaptability of employed adults.

The present study evaluated the psychometric properties of a self-report scale for assessing Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) symptoms according to the DSM–5 and ICD–11 among 3270 college/univers ity students (2095 [64.1%] females; age mean 21.6 [3.1] years) from different countries worldwide. Croatian, English, Polish, Portuguese, Serbian, Turkish, and Vietnamese versions of the scale were tested. The study showed that symptoms of IGD could be measured as a single underlying factor among college/university students. A nine itemsymptom scale following DSM–5, and a short four-item scale representing the main ICD–11 symptoms, had sound internal consistency and construct validity. Three symptom-items were found non-invariant across the language samples (i.e., preoccupation with on-line gaming, loss of interests in previous hobbies and entertainment, and the use of gaming to relieve negative moods). This study provides initial evidence for assessing IGD symptoms among college/university students and will hopefully foster further research into gaming addiction in this population worldwide especially with taking into account language/cultural differences.

The main aim of this study was to develop a new scale for measuring travel destination personality – the Destination Personality Scale (DPS). It was assumed that DPS will confirm the applicability of the five-factor structure of the original Brand Personality Scale (BPS) by Aaker (1997) when more appropriate adjectives for the description of travel destinationpersonality are generated. Results confirmed the five-factor structure of DPS, with dimensions Excitement, Sincerity, Competence, Ruggedness, and Sophistication. The final version of DPS consists of 24 items and subscales showed good construct (convergent and discriminant) and criterion validity, as well as reliability.

Prevalence of sleep problems has grown globally in recent years and sleep hygiene recommendations have shown inconsistent results. This study aims to analyze the quality of sleep in a non-clinical population and its association with maladaptive sleep hygiene. A total of 465 participants, with median age of 35 years (Interquartile range – IQR =28–44), completed the Sleep Hygiene Practices Scale (SHPS) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Sample was divided into good quality sleepers (GQS; 52.7%, n = 245) and poor quality sleepers (PQS; 47.3%, n = 220). Comparison tests showed PQS had significant higher scores on SHPS (M = 61; IQR = 55–68, p < .01) compared with GQS (M = 68; IQR = 62–74). A logistic regression model indicated that only cognitive-arousal behaviors and inconsistent bedtimes were significant to classify poor sleep (R2 = .35; p < .01). In conclusion, poor sleep quality is common among healthy individuals and strongly associated with pre-sleep cognitive activity. This suggests that interventions aiming to improve sleep quality should consider strategies that would retract attention from concerns and worries at bedtime.
