The Semantic Scope of the Lexeme Fear in the Biblical Text

The Semantic Scope of the Lexeme Fear in the Biblical Text

Author(s): Petro Matskiv,Tetiana Botvyn / Language(s): English Issue: 34/2022

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the functioning of the lexeme fear [strakh] in the text of the Scriptures in the sphere of sacrum—profanum; the authors have described the method of research of emotional vocabulary in the linguistic aspect. The semantics of the mentioned word in a profane expression has been considered and based on the method of dictionary definition, etymological, contextual and conceptual analyses, and a complex approach. The authors have traced the understanding of fear in the sacral manifestation (fear of God), relying on the divine nature of this occurrence, which goes beyond the natural understanding of the studied phenomenon. The fear of God in the Bible should be considered as blahohovinnia [awe], which has three levels of manifestation: initial: it arises as gratitude to God for forgiven sins and leads a person to awe before the Lord and helps to salve his soul. A higher level is the feeling of blahohovinnia which resides in a person when they stand before God and is ready to obey Him in everything. The highest level of awe is the concept of absolute service to God when there is no fear but only love. The source language clearly distinguishes the concept of natural fear and supernatural fear, whose linguistic signs are separate lexemes, whereas in the Ukrainian language (as well as in Ukrainian translations of Scripture) the expression of these meanings occurs with the help of lexemes strakh [fear], bohobiynyi [God-fearing], pobozhnyi [pious], boyatysia [to fear], shanuvaty [to honour] that does not correlate with the primary source.

მიხა ხელაშვილის „ლექსო ამოგთქომ“ და მისი ფოლკლორული ძირები

Author(s): Khvtiso Mamisimedishvili / Language(s): Georgian Issue: 6/2023

In the Soviet period, the stories about Mikha Khelashvili’s hectic life and his poems were spread by word of mouth. Mikha Khelashvili’s poetry was particularly popular among the mountain peoples due to some reasons. First, the poems the poet composed mainly with Pshavi dialect were close to folklore and folk motifs. The topics and motives Mikha Khelashvili wrote about were a subject of interest and concern for people. Another reason for his popularity was that Mikha Khelashvili remained in the memory of the people as a hero who fought for the freedom of his homeland. Mikha Khelashvili, a prominent fighter of Kakutsa Cholokashvili’s Band of Sworn Men, lived and died in such a way, which are often the topics of big tragedies in the works by genius writers. The killers hired by the Bolsheviks betrayed 25-year-old Mikha Khelashvili and killed him. The betrayal was especially appalling as the young poet’s closest friends were its accomplices. Mikha Khelashvili’s poetic masterpiece "The poem to utter" has root parallels with one of the Chechen folk songs " The earth will dry upon my grave", which L. Tolstoy attributed to the number of "wonderful songs expressing revenge and strength". This old Chechen song was first included by I. Ipolitov in his publication "Ethnographic Essay of the Arghun District", published in 1868 in Tbilisi, in Russian "Collection of data about Caucasian mountains" (Сборник сведений о кавказских горцах). The report uses historical-comparative and structural methods to analyze the parallels between Mikha Khelashvili’s poem and the Chechen folk song.

Onomastics, which has a considerable place in language studies, is also an important field in which different disciplines work. Nicknames and sobriquets are also elements of this scienceNicknames or sobriquets have been used in almost every phase of human history. For example, a commander may be awarded a nickname as a result of his heroism on the battlefield, while a different commander may have a negative nickname for his cruelty. The society ascribes these two different namings. The lines that inspire a poet are part of his talent, and this poet can also be the creator of his own nickname with the lines he creates. Someone who is accepted as the leader of a community can also be called by a different name created by his own community. These sobriquets, which are attributed to people, often appear as symbols of experience. The ancestry, lineage or groups in which individuals are included are also referred to as nicknames. These nicknames sometimes go so old that it is not known on what and by whom they were given/created. These products, which contain many materials to be researched within the framework of language studies, are also special pieces that make up the culture and tradition of the society. These pieces tell the story of societies, their relations with different cultures, their social lives, etc. it allows us to combine small details by presenting many elements to us. In the study, the nicknames and sobriquets of Yeşilyurt Village will be evaluated.

Author(s): Amil ƏSGƏROV / Language(s): Azerbaijani Issue: 58/2023

The musical culture of Nakhchivan finds its historical, spiritual and artistic embodiment, first of all, in rich musical folklore. The musical folklore of this country has a wide genre composition, rich traditions, means of expression and performance characteristics. The regional uniqueness of Nakhchivan musical folklore is also reflected in its melody, moment, form, intonation, rhythm, and performance style. The recording of Yalli dances is still of theoretical and practical importance for researchers of musical folklore. Yalli is a syncretic culture, therefore, it contains many performance components - interpretation, style, melody, intonation, moment, rhythm, words, accompaniment - in an inseparable unity. All genres of folk music are covered in Nakhchivan musical folklore, which is an important part of Azerbaijani musical folklore. At the same time, musical examples specific to the Nakhchivan region have been created and are still alive today among the people and by professional music groups.

KĖDAINIEČIŲ MOTERŲ ĮVARDIJIMO TENDENCIJOS XVII–XVIII A. KĖDAINIŲ MIESTO ISTORIJOS ŠALTINIUOSE

Author(s): Alma Ragauskaitė / Language(s): Lithuanian Issue: 87/2022

Municipal register books, various inventories, registers and church registers are among the key historical anthroponymic sources of Lithuanian townspeople. The most notable among them are the Kėdainiai inventories of 1604, 1622, 1624 and 1666 and the documents of Kėdainiai Evangelical Reformed Church of 1628–1663 written in the Polish language. Eighty-two records of Kėdainiai women were collected from these unique manuscripts of the 17th century. They are thoroughly discussed from the perspective of naming. It was established that the female residents of the town of the Radziwill noble family were usually recorded by two suffixal anthroponyms formed after their husband. The naming of 32 women followed such a pattern (39.02% of all the cases of naming). As many as 13 (15.86%) women of Kėdainiai were recorded by the first name and surname or by an anthroponym performing its functions. They were usually given traditional Christian names. In the later baptismal register of 1752–1799 kept by St. George’s Church of Kėdainiai Parish, 32 surnames of the townswomen bearing Lithuanian suffixes were identified.

CHALLENGES AND PITFALLS IN CONDUCTING DIALECTAL SURVEY IN THE AREA BÂRGĂULUI, BISTRIȚA-NĂSĂUD COUNTY

Author(s): Maria Cornelia Rus / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 23/2020

Bârgăului Valley in Bistrița-Năsăud County is considered a transition area, which falls within the Northeastern Transylvanian language. Dialectal survey is an effective method of collection of linguistic material, as it involves the interaction of the investigator with the subjects and direct recording of concrete information related to the evolution of a subject. The purpose of the study is to present the challenges and pitfalls encountered in developing surveys dialects developed in the Bârgăului area, Bistrița-Năsăud county. In conducting the direct dialect survey in the field, I used the "spy" recording method. and I applied a questionnaire consisting of 186 questions. The linguistic material collected was saved on electronic support for the purpose of phonetic transcription, systematization, analysis and interpretation of phonetically, morphologically and lexically. Currently, the conduct of a dialectal survey subjects the investigator to attempts at time type, technology progress etc. People are very busy, work in factories, and after finishing the program ends its field work and housework. Young people no longer have time available, because he plans and organizes each action. Development of social networks and online media tools, regardless of the age of the informants, there is a fear of not being popularized on the internet, either out of a desire to protect their identity and privacy, or from fear of not being judged by the community, due to the fact that they are not aware of the village traditions, not knowing how to answer some questions. Technological advances have helped me as an investigator in recording, storing and processing information collected, but at the same time through the development of networks and media channels have contributed to the fear induction of popularization in the virtual environment.

Author(s): Nicoleta Flavia Cionte (Dan) / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 23/2020

Folklore includes all artistic, literary, musical, plastic creations, belonging to the spiritual culture, customs, popular traditions of a country. Popular literature or literary folklore includes oral, anonymous, collective, popular and syncretic artistic creations. It is a narrower field of values in constant motion, like the whole complex of popular culture, given the need for continuous adaptation to the ever new requirements of the peoples who created and preserved them. Children's folklore is a syncretic phenomenon, combining text, melody, gesture, movement, play, has a collective accent. The individual moral consciousness is the result of the accumulations of experience in the hypostasis of permanent subject of some moral facts, as well as of the constituted actions that are executed in the name of the social morality.

The Nexus between Performance, Aesthetics and Philosophical Motifs in Indigenous Festivals

The Nexus between Performance, Aesthetics and Philosophical Motifs in Indigenous Festivals

Author(s): Segun Omosule / Language(s): English Issue: 114/2023

The idea of expediency that is identified with the two mythical sisters that were abducted during the era of slavery and slave trade may have been constructed to sensitise folks about the need to be prepared at all times and probably informed by their social status, and without the instruments of state to enforce security, they might have been exposed to orgies such as slavery and kidnapping. The same measure may not be attributed to powerful members in view of their ability to provide apparatus for security. This exposure to economic wherewithal, however, does not preclude them from relating with the philosophical tempo of the milieu such as consciousness of the place of time in whatever they do or intend to do. Using aesthetics as a theoretical springboard, the study concludes that indigenous performances are means of regulating behaviours.

FOLKLORE AND AESTHETICS

Author(s): Nicoleta Flavia Cionte (Dan) / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 24/2021

Folklore is defined as the multitude of artistic manifestations and values, belonging to the spiritual popular culture. The aspects that characterize the facts of folklore: orality, collective character, the relationship between tradition and innovation, syncretism of languages, determine structural coordinates and concrete forms of realization. Literature is a repertoire of means of expression: motifs, images, metaphors, groups of rhymes, mythical representations, magical formulas, etc. In essence, spiritual popular culture - folklore - must be delimited from an aesthetic point of view, because folklore means the multitude of works and artistic manifestations belonging. In the popular work there is a concern for background, content and less for form, artistic expression, but the aesthetic values of folklore have their specificity. Folk opera, in this case the old narrative songs or fairy tales, must be seen as a continuous attempt, as an improvisation being organized. The artist finds, during the execution, in the lyrics - template, support points. The schemes are those that give him the security of cutting the subject. In conclusion, ethno - aesthetics will study the genesis and the principles of elaboration and reception of the variants of beauty, at the level of the categorical system of the arts.

МУЗЕЙНІ КОЛЕКЦІЇ ЯК ДЖЕРЕЛЬНА БАЗА ЕКСПЕРТНИХ ДОСЛІДЖЕНЬ

Author(s): Svitlana Shman / Language(s): Ukrainian Issue: 1/2023

The purpose of the article is to highlight the issues of museum collections as a database of expertise, which today is considered a separate direction of scientific and applied research. The affinity between the expertise and attribution of cultural values have been specified taking into account the tasks and methods they use during scientific research work. Research methods. To achieve the research goal, analytical, historical, epistemological, and axiological method, the method of theoretical generalisation have been used in order to specify the problem of using museum collections as a database for the examination of cultural values. Scientific novelty of the obtained results lies in the theoretical understanding of the possibility to use museum collections as a database for expert examinations in order to specify and deepen the knowledge about cultural values. This approach is an attempt to go beyond traditional art studies and make emphasis on the objective data, draw more accurate conclusions. Moreover, the use of museum collections may encourage a researcher to be more attentive to details and to deepen their knowledge. Conclusions. In order to understand the significance of the database of expert research in the system of protection and popularisation of cultural values, the existing basic concepts have been systematised. The commonality and interdependence have been established between the expertise and attribution, which is a well-founded opinion of a specialist with many years of experience and unique knowledge. The supremacy of museums in the field of expertise has a number of advantages, since each item, from the point of view of a museologist, has its own, strictly defined place in the system of cultural values.

Author(s): Olga Leonidivna Zosim / Language(s): Ukrainian Issue: 1/2023

The purpose of the research is to characterise the "Carols on Kudriavka" television project as a cultural and artistic product aimed to preserve and update the Ukrainian folklore. The research methodology consists in the application of the analytical method and the method of conceptualisation, which made it possible to identif y the creative potential of the "Carols on Kudriavka" television project in the search for approaches to preserve and represent the Ukrainian folklore tradition. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the fact that for the first time the "Carols on Kudriavka" television project is characterised, in which new forms of updating folklore in modern historical conditions are proposed. Conclusions. The "Carols on Kudriavka" television project is an example of updating approaches to the presentation of folklore in art, which operates on the principles of mass culture and is distributed through the media. The project combines the forms and techniques of a traditional pop concert with musical and dramatic innovations, including updating of the sound of traditi onal folklore and bringing its sound closer to current musical trends, relying on a ceremonial and ritual component, and reducing the weight of hit songs. The "Carols on Kudriavka" project can be considered as a conceptual video album, in which the Ukrainian sacred ritual archaism and the traditions of world variety shows are organically intertwined.
