Deyimlerin Anlambilimsel Ve Bilişsel Özelliklerine Göre Tahmin Edilebilirliği: Yabancı Dilde Bir Uygulama
Idiom studies within the last years drew attention to the necessity of examining these linguistic features with different point of views. In this study, idioms are classified according to their semantic and cognitive features and these idioms are presented to Turkish university students within the framework of foreign language in order to test their idiomatic knowledge in English on a five-point Likert scale. Then, the students are asked to predict the meanings of the idioms which they don’t know. The findings of the study show that the students can predict particular kinds of idioms more successfully and guess the meanings of the presented idioms using specific strategies.
