Summary/Abstract: The debut in the teaching career has never been easy. Currently, however, due to the pandemic, the entry of a young teacher in the career is a real challenge, as their initial training did not prepare them for teaching and assessment in the online system, many of the strategies and techniques they intended to use can no longer be applied and theyare put in a position to find new methods to achieve their objectives as soon as possible. Therefore, we consider that the presence of the mentor next to the beginner teacher is more necessary than ever. This paper starts with the question “What is the role of the mentor and what strategies should they apply to improve the quality of the interaction between the French beginner teacher and their students in the online learning system?”. We will describe the context, the specifics of online learning, the elements that distinguish them from traditional learning, their advantages and limitations and we will address the functions of the mentor in the online teaching process.
