Summary/Abstract: Pragmatics has been one of the most prevalent research topics recently. In the present study, the emphasis is on pragmatics and its influence on foreign language teaching. Having been a linguistic base of communicative approach, the main function of pragmatics is to help learners to gain communicative competence and to teach new vocabulary to learners with authentic materials. Its influence on FLT can be both direct and indirect, such as; having a student-oriented teaching, selecting teaching materials that are suitable to learners on different levels, reconstructing the grammar topics according to their authentic uses and designing classroom activities to improve learners’ communicative competence.
