The phenomenon of Catholic religious architecture results from its integral integration with an evolving cultural context. The proposals of the Second Vatican Council concerning religious buildings emphasize their “openness” to the social dimension of the environment in which they are found. Such a concep-tion of rules referring to religious architecture explains the lack of a rationale for creating an arbitrary ideal or a model for a canonical Catholic church. The architectural diversity of contemporary sacred ensembles in Western Europe, Scandinavia, and the United States reflects the distinct ideological and functional assumptions that respond to the needs, aspirations, and resources of local communities that build them. Analogous conditions determine the architectural uniqueness of Catholic churches in Poland. The dominance of liturgical and social criteria over formal and stylistic criteria in shaping sacred architecture is a source of inspiration in the search for new concepts of “churches for our age.”

The world has changed in many aspects in recent decades, and this has impacted on high education too. Theological faculties as parts of tertiary education need to face new challenges created by the postmodern society. The present study addresses this issue by presenting both the major challenges and the possible solutions of how to overcome them. In my view, the challenges faced by theological faculties are basically three: the relationship between theology and sciences, the place of theology as a discipline at the universities, and the role of theology in pastoral work. It will be argued that to answer the challenges posed by the changing world, theological education should be interdisciplinary, contextual, and authentic. In other terms, it should engage in dialogue with other disciplines and society while remaining faithful to its historical roots.

The fi rst prototypes of Romanian translations belong to the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century. The fi rst prints, especially books of the Holy Scriptures, appeared in Transylvania in the second half of the sixteenth century, while in Wallachia and Moldova they were printed a century later. The translation of the books of the Holy Scriptures into Romanian culminated with the printing of the Bible from Bucharest in 1688, a work that crowns the typographic activity until then. It is the fi rst full print of the Holy Scripture in Romanian. Throughout the centuries, the great hierarchs from the three Romanian provinces, monks, laymen and teachers from the theological education institutions have been noted among the translators of literature and theological teaching. Supported with fi nancial resources by the rulers of the Romanian countries, who are lovers of culture, the typographers managed to print the fi rst biblical, patristic and cult texts very useful to the Romanian believers eager to know God in their own language.

The Church needs a constant renewal of its pastoral ministry style. On the one hand, it is a renewal dictated by the invigorating “fermentation” of the Holy Spirit. On the other hand, this renewal consists in listening to the voice of the modern world in order to answer its tormenting questions in the light of the gospel (cf. Lumen Gentium 4,44). Modern evangelization meansevangelizing a secularized world. therefore, the Church needs a missionary conversion of its pastoral work. This is about going out to the periphery of ecclesial communities to proclaim the gospel boldly and faithfully where christ has not yet taken root in the hearts of men. It is also about activating the evangelization of all members of the Church, especially the laity. This activation should be accompanied by the process of the Church’s self-evangelization, understood as deepening the contact with the mystery of the living God.

the movement for renewal of theology referred to as Nouvelle Théologie was born in France in the early twentieth century and contributed to the reforms of the Church resulting from the Second Vatican Council. Some of the representatives of this current in France were the Dominicans of the Le Saulchoir center and the Lyon-Fourvière Jesuits. the proliferation of the movement dates back to the 1940s and 1950s. the representatives of the Nouvelle Théologie current strived for a broadly understood theological renewal through a return to the sources. their reception of the writings of the Church Fathers evoked a critical judgment of the errors of neo-tomism, which – in their opinion –- has led to a rupture between theology and the ordinary man. new theologians have turned to the modern man, focusing on his doubts, problems of faith and suffering. the origins of the movement can be traced back to the birth of modernism, as well as the philosophical thought of Johann adam Möhler, Maurice Blondel, Joseph Maréchal and Pierre rousselot.
