The paper looks for an answer to the question whether one can hope for something, whether hope belongs to one’s life, to one’s existence. Some philosophical existentialists declared human life to be absurd, e.g. A. Camus. According to J. P. Sartre, man cannot rely on anyone except himself; wretchedness and desperation accompany all his life. On the other side, according to G. Marcel, hope belongs to human life; hope represents activity, a lifelong attitude. As the ability of self-transcendence, the openness to Transcendence belongs to the human nature, hope can be considered natural. Hope is natural to human beings.
