I rukovali smo. I pitao sam ga kako je uspeo da sve neophodno spakuje u to. I Bora Adašević se smejao. Kasnije, u nemačkom hotelu, uverio sam se da je to tako. Da čovek može da se spakuje brzo. Jako brzo. I ode. Kasnije smo razgovarali, u istom tom hotelu, najčešće u mojoj sobi. I na Sajmu u Frankfurtu. I po kafanama. Po nemačkim ulicama.

This essay interprets the collection ”Bašta slezove boje” by Branko Ćopić from the perspective of the phenomenon of melancholy, and the ultimate meaning of a letter addressed to a dear friend. Disputing the judgement of Branko Ćopić as a writer exclusively engaged by the communist authorities, the author of this essay searches for the metaphysical connotations of the Secret, the figure of the Other, and of Eden. The storytelling agenda in the collections of B. Ćopić posits not only a folkloristic imagination and a traditionally realistic orientation to the outside world, but it places the story into the realm of modern subjectivity. The melancholic and humoristic sensibility of B. Ćopić questions, unobtrusively, the key problems in the modern man’s self-understanding, his intimate existential crisis and socially-political manipulation.

Starting from the theories on conceptual integration (linguistics argumentation of Gilles Fauconnier and Mark Turner and narratological theory Hilary Dannenberg) and possible worlds theory by Lubomír Doležel, this paper investigates the interpretation of the official history in the novel The Invisible by Aleksandar Gatalica. Reality structures incorporated into the content of the novel The Invisible, include historical figures and events, literary works, studies, declarations, canvas art, musical compositions, magazines, artistic and scientific societies and events. Our engagement in the intertextual context of the novel is based on the textual material listed here: 1. Tito's letter to Milovan Đilas; 2. The Embattled Mountain by William Deakin; 3. The testimony of Mihajlo Petrović about Kun’s attitude towards the property of Branko Popović; 4. Theatre in occupied Serbia: Theatre policies in Serbia 1941-1944 by Boro Majdanac; 5. Entry ”Decadence, Decadence” in the Dictionary of Literary Terms edited by Dragiša Zivković; 6. Chess game of world champions, Robert James Fischer and Lhamsuren Myagmarsuren, played in 1967, known as ”A Night in Vegas”; 7. Excerpt from John Russell’s article, published in Obituary section of the New York Times.

The subject of this paper is the motif of a woman warrior in a Serbian oral epic. Our corpus is formed from collections by Vuk Stefanović Karadžić, as well as from other older collections. Here are examined poems where a woman by disguise transforms herself into a man, in order to take over social roles that are only reserved for the malegender and gain a different source of power temporarily changing her gender. This motif is analysed regarding The Rites of Passage by Arnold van Gennep, marking a preliminary, liminaire and postliminaire phase in the initiation of the heroines. Our goal is to place poems into groups considering the cause of remodeling their body, in order to demonstrate their mutual morphology.

The subject of this research is one of the most prominent novels of Đura Đukanov (1956-2000) – Devil’s dream. The area of scientific interest that has been activated by the title of this paper is highly diverse. Therefore, the author promotes unifying modes for the interpretation of Đukanov’s prose. One of these modes is, certainly, poetics of provocation, which is discussed in this paper from a stylistic, aesthetic, and even political point of view. The results of this research may lead to a new positioning of Đukanov’s opus in the context of late modernism in Serbian literature.

The main subject of this paper is the analysis of the problem of the fantastic in the works of Ilija Vukićević done on some examples of texts with the elements of fantasy: ”The story of the village Vraci and Sima Stupica”, ”How Nastas nalbantin sought and found happiness”, ”Pixy”, ”The Cursed beauty”, ”Tzar Goran”, ”The fearsome dream”, ”A healing stick”, ”The devil and the Girl”, ”The Heart”. Although fantastic discourse is the focus of one stage of Vukićević's works, its every systematic and complete study remained outside the primary aspect of our literary science. With the transformation of genres of folk literature with elements of fantasy (fairytale, lecture, humorous story) in the direction of a realistic storyline, the stylisation of the traditional fairy tale into the ”evil fairytale”, the realisation of the fantastic discourse at the level of fabula, chronotopes, character building and conception of certain typology of the fantastic Vukićević achieved destabilisation of the mimetic as the basic postulate of the realistic discourse.
