Dušan Kovačević’s Play St. George Slays the Dragon

Summary/Abstract: This paper demonstrates the interpretation of historical facts in the play St. George Slays the Dragon, or the perspective from which the theme of the First World War is observed. Genre definition and the relation of history and fiction in the drama is reviewed. The objective of this work is the consideration of the Battle of Cer as a victory of the Serbian people, as well as the question about the values for which humans are ready to suffer. Upon conclusion, the author manifests a critical antagonism towards common interpretations of the history.
