PSYCHOANALYTIC INTERPRETATIONS ON THE PSYCHOSOCIAL REALITIES OF THE DEPORTATIONS FROM THE MOLDAVIAN SSR: THE ISSUE OF ENVY

PSYCHOANALYTIC INTERPRETATIONS ON THE PSYCHOSOCIAL REALITIES OF THE DEPORTATIONS FROM THE MOLDAVIAN SSR: THE ISSUE OF ENVY

Author(s): Zinaida Bolea / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 33/2023

The deportations from the Moldavian SSR took place during the first decade of the Sovietization of Bessarabia and represent a traumatic event in the contemporary history of the Republic of Moldova. Given the collective silence during the Soviet period on this phenomenon, the last two decades have been marked by efforts to create scientific and cultural representations of this historical event. Being part of the category of anthropogenic historical traumas, in which the traumatic factor is individually human, the subject of transformations of human relations in a totalitarian context is a central one for research projects dedicated to deportations. This article deals with deportees' representations of the causes and conditions of deportations and highlights hypotheses formulated by deportees. One of the deportees' hypotheses refers to local social animosities, and the issue of envy is invoked. The article presents the deportees' arguments, followed by psychoanalytic theorizations of this hypothesis.

TERRITORY AND REAL ESTATE IN KARDZHALI AND ITS DISTRICT IN THE 1920S AND 1930S

Author(s): Maria Markova / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2023

This publication traces the markers and the dynamics of the anthropological borders of the territory and the real estate during the 1920s in a specific region of Bulgaria. It encompasses Kardzhali (in Tukish Kırcaali) and its district, which have been annexed to the state in 1912 and were mainly populated by Turks up until the end of World War One. The subjective dimensions of the historical processes are enlightened through the memories and the stories of a part of the participants in the events – the Bulgarian refugees, who settled in the region. During the 1920s Kardzhali and its district radically changed. The Bulgarians and the Turks were the ones that were most often separated. The space, inhabited by the old Turkish population, shrank and Bulgarian-populated neighborhoods appeared, as well as mixed zones. Furthermore, places, which have been previously empty, became populated. In practice, the Bulgarians managed to wedge themselves in between the Turks of Kardzhali and its district and to change their traditional look. In the Bulgarian zones appeared buildings, connected to the Bulgarian national institutions – ecclesiastical and scholastic, as well as ones that marked the beginning of the modernization.

От молдовския Кортен до Алтай и обратно в Тарутино, Украйна. „Голямата“ тема за съветските депортации в „малките“ истории на българите от Бесарабия. Част 3

Author(s): Galin Georgiev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2023

The present text, the first parts of which are published in the previous two issues of “BulgarianEthnology” journal, presents the last, concluding part of an ethnological study conducted within the framework of an IEFSEM – BAS project and dedicated to an important and current problem in the post-Soviet space. It is about the ‘big all-Union’ topic of repressions and deportations in the former USSR, illuminated on the basis of the ‘small’, private example of a Bulgarian settlement in the Bessarabia region. The purpose and tasks of the study are aimed at revealing the main aspects of the collective memory of those deported in 1949 as a result of the collectivization in the then Moldavian SSR of 80 Bulgarian families from the village ofKorten (or Kiryutnia) and of their residence for about ten years in the Altai region of today’sRussia. The research is the result of the field ethnographic expedition conducted in the summer of 2021 in the town of Tarutino, Odesa region of Ukraine, where after the death of Y. V. Stalin and their subsequent rehabilitation, some of those people settled down to live, returning from the far northern lands in Bessarabia. However, those declared by the authorities as kulaks are not allowed to settle closer than 40 km from their native village and they choose as their newport the former German colony – well-known for them before the so-called lifting, i.e. before deportation, a market and business centre with the old name Chokrak. The main object of study in the first two and in the present last part of this text are the trajectories of memory about deportation, about forced migration and about the return from exile, i.e. for the return journey from Altai again to Bessarabia. The analysis text, built almost entirely from the author’s own field materials, aims to reflect the main points of reference, the accents in the memories, through which our interlocutors nowadays present and empathize with the events that took place in their childhood and youth years.

The attempts at bilateral negotiations on the subject with the Ottoman Empire are examined, the two normative acts fixing the rights and duties of the consular representatives are highlighted: the Regulations for the Organization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1897)and the Law on the Structure and Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1907). LA RELIGION AU SERVICE DE LA DIPLOMATIE : LAZARISTES AU COURS DES GUERRES BALKANIQUES (1912 – 1913)

Author(s): Biljana Stojić-Radović / Language(s): French Issue: 4/2023

In the presented article the author researched the role and the position of catholic mission Lazarists based in Macedonia during the Balkan Wars (1912 – 1913). The articles explore the relations of Serbia toward this catholic community but take into consideration the entanglements of the other states involved in the Balkan Wars: Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro, and the Ottoman Empire. Special attention is given to the mission’s humanitarian work conducted during the war operations, as well as its complex position during the Second Balkan war and the problems they have faced after the Wars in Serbia and Greece. A great part of the article is dedicated to France’s attitude and aims to protect Lazarists’ work in the Ottoman Empire and accordingly its religious diplomacy. For two centuries in the Ottoman Empire Lazarists had been closely tied with the French diplomatic network benefiting from diplomatic protection while working in promoting French culture along with Catholicism. France used all diplomatic resources to (re)assure the continuity of its cultural influence after 1913 and the decay of Ottoman rule in the Balkans. The article is based on documents from the Diplomatic archive and the Archives of Congregation of the Mission.

LA FRANCE ET LE DÉVELOPPEMENT DES INSTITUTIONS ÉDUCATIVES DES FRÈRES DES ÉCOLES CHRÉTIENNES À CONSTANTINOPLE (1841 – 1914)

Author(s): Nikolay Ivanov / Language(s): French Issue: 4/2023

France conducted an active Eastern policy in the period from the middle of the 19th century until the First World War. One of the main tools with which the Western state imposed its cultural influence on the Ottoman Empire was the spread of European education from Catholic societies. The educational activity of the missionaries is under the direct control of the French government, which through its administrative apparatus controls and manages the development of the educational work in Turkey. The religious society Brothers of the Christian Schools made a serious contribution to the penetration of the French educational system into the territories of the Ottoman Empire. Missionaries arrived in Constantinople in 1841, and by the mid-1920s, the congregation established itself as a leader in educational work.

Архиепископ Алойзие Степинац и укрепването на комунистите на власт в Хърватия през 40-те години на ХХ век

Author(s): Irina Ognyanova-Krivoshieva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2023

Already during the Second World War, when it gradually imposed its power over vast Croatian territories, then within the boundaries of the Independent State of Croatia, and especially after its end, when it officially solidified its power, the Yugoslav Communist Party (YKP) began political repressions and trials against all its political opponents, one of which was the Catholic Church. Thousands of clergymen were sent to prisons, camps or were physically liquidated, and churches were massively destroyed in the spirit of the atheistic policy of the regime. Over time, Communist attacks on the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Zagreb Archbishop Aloysius Stepinac, escalated and culminated in the Stalinist political trial of September 1946. The reason for that was that the Archbishop did not give in to the pressure of the authorities, did not disconnect the ties of the Catholic Church in Croatia with Vatican and became a symbol of the Croatian nation and its struggle for independence and statehood.

Харти за „Ново обществено здравеопазване“

Харти за „Ново обществено здравеопазване“

Author(s): Klara Dokova,Petya Boncheva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2021

Research attention is focused on charters due to the fact that in the public health sphere, global strategic policies over the past fifty years are looming and developing most often through charters and declarations. The purpose of the article is to examine the unifying and specific features of two of the founding charters in the field of public health: the Ottawа and the Okanagan Charter, the later adopted by the International Network of Universities and Colleges for Health Promotion 2015. А historical comparative analysis of the two documents is performed. The Okanagan Charter endorses and adapts the prin- ciples of health promotion to higher education institutions. Understanding and officially adopting it are the first steps needed for joining the global health promoting universities movement
