Genealógia prešporského rodu Rosspeidtner

Genealógia prešporského rodu Rosspeidtner

Author(s): Frederik Federmayer / Language(s): Slovak Issue: 1/2015

To important part of urban community and townspeople elite clearly belonged also lineage of masons, stonecutters and architects. Author of this study presents new genealogic and heraldic information about stone-architectural lineage of Rosspeidtner (Rosspeudner). This lineage belonged to prominent representatives of early baroque architecture in Hungarian capital city in 17th century and in the beginning of 18th century. Genus of Rosspedtner was of a protestant nature, which came to Hungary probably from the Lower Austria after the year 1625 and was present there for three generations till the year 1713. The founder of Hungarian part of this lineage was Wolfgang Rosspeidtner († 1659), who settled in Pressburg in its suburb (Vydrica). In year 1630 he was admitted as townsman and a member of brickwork-architectural guild. He became an active member, longtime guild leader and he gained lots of important contracts from the town, Pressburger’s townsmen and its nobility, most of all from the nobility of Palff y. For his architectural activity he has received the aristocratic status for him and his successors. As masons and architects were active also his sons and grandson Juraj Rosspeidtner († 1713), who has become a very important member of this genus. He also worked for the city, most of all for Palff y, from whom he has received several contracts for reconstruction of feudal residences in the city as well as in the countryside. Juraj Rosspeidtner died on the peak of his career due to plague. The last known member of Hungarian part of this genus, his daughter Johanna Zuzana has married to aristocratic family Geramb. Author of this study introduces also heraldic monuments, which reminds this lineage, burghers and aristocratic heraldry of Rosspeidtner.

The discussion focuses on the "medicalization" of the so-called video game addiction, the question of the reasons for the overexposure of violence in this novel cultural form, the dangers, inherent in some of the business practices, espoused in this largely unregulated industry, as well as the conditions for the reception of its products in Bulgaria.

Author(s): Policarp Chițulescu / Language(s): English Issue: 6/2022

This study identified the icon of Virgin Moscovita and the icon of the Holy Mandylion, described in Konstantinos Dapontes’ writings, with the icon of the Virgin and the icon of the Holy Mandylion preserved in his family monastery Evangelistria in Skopelos island. We can now retrace the “biography” of these two artefacts, the history of their creation, donation, and multiple “transfers” of the two icons. This study is an important contribution to the history of the early modern period in the Balkans. The icon of the Virgin Moscovite was donated to Konstantinos Dapontes by his benefactor Konstantinos Mavrocordatos in 1741 in Iasi, and the the icon of the Holy Mandylion was donated to Dapontes by his “maître spirituel”, the patriarch of Antioch Sylvester in 1762.

The Double-Sided Icon of a Seventeenth-Century Galician Painter in Transcarpathia.

Author(s): Puskas Bernadett / Language(s): English Issue: 6/2022

The Icon Painter Jov Vasilijevič and the Eighteenth-Century Iconostases of the Krušedol and Bođani Monasteries.

The Icon Painter Jov Vasilijevič and the Eighteenth-Century Iconostases of the Krušedol and Bođani Monasteries.

Author(s): Vladimir Simić / Language(s): English Issue: 6/2022

The “Belz-Drohobych Workshop” in Ukrainian Galicia and its Connection with Romanian Maramureș.

The “Belz-Drohobych Workshop” in Ukrainian Galicia and its Connection with Romanian Maramureș.

Author(s): Somak Oksana,Mihai Covaci / Language(s): English Issue: 6/2022

Author(s): Nemanja Radulović / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2022

Phenomena defined in contemporary folkloristics as postfolklore, small groups folklore, urban folklore have for long been out of the focus of Serbian folkloristics, and papers on this topic have only recently started appearing. Quite understandably, the studies are directed towards contemporary material. However, the diachronic aspect of these phenomena exists too. The testimonies of the existence of such forms of folklore in the past can be found in memoir and diary literature, as well as in the corpus of historical (not folkloristic) archives. All these past phenomena are covered here with the umbrella term “other folklore” whose function is descriptive, not theoretical. Everything that folkloristic paradigms in the past failed to see as a “real” folklore (equated with oral, rural, and traditional) – making that material invisible and hidden in the sources less used by folklorists – is classified here as “other.” “Other folklore” in this case encompasses a few kinds of folklore: folklore of small groups (criminals and prisoners, students, seminarists) and urban folklore (mostly connected to Belgrade). Political folklore could belong here too. It is often close to traditional genres in its forms, but historical and political conditions have made it unsuitable and evicted it to the out-of-sight memory of memoirs and diaries (such are, say, monarchist songs from World War II, or political jokes from the time of Communism). Political folklore sometimes coincides with other “otherness” categories, say, the parodic urban folklore from the time of the Nazi occupation of Belgrade that is an example both of political and urban creativity; humoristic and unheroic, it did not fit the folklore of resistance ideal even upon the end of the war. Such a corpus approach makes it possible to see the diachronic background of many contemporary examples and discover new sources of folklore in the less examined material. More importantly, the definitions of folklore themselves are tested by this approach (surely, along the lines of Popper’s criticism of “facts,” it is definitely not a “discovery,” but a re-evaluation of concepts before approaching the corpus). Finally, such analyses can be useful to historians too, because they reveal the hidden side of certain epochs and their mind-sets, as well as the genre conditionality of historical sources.

The Evolution of the Alba Iulia Jewish Community Reflected in Funerary Art: A Proposed Model for Researching Jewish Cemeteries.

The Evolution of the Alba Iulia Jewish Community Reflected in Funerary Art: A Proposed Model for Researching Jewish Cemeteries.

Author(s): Daniel Dumitran,Sidonia Petronela Olea,Stoian Claudiu / Language(s): English Issue: 7/2023

Author(s): Dzhuliya Kirilova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 16/2024

What are the specific characteristics of media coverage of the Gaza conflict? This is the question that prompted the writing of this text. The clash between national security and the norms of international law have placed the fate of journalists in Gaza at the center of discussions regarding freedom of expression in a time of ongoing armed conflict. The realities on the ground have also empowered amateur journalists who, free from professional norms, have begun to cover the conflict in their ownspecific way. The fate of journalists in the enclave has sparked the frustrations of colleagues and media organisations around the world, who have called on the international community to act. It is naive to believe that the wave of protest against Israeli actions will bring about significant change on the ground, but it has shown that freedom of speech and respect for human life are things that we can unite behind as professionals and aspeople.
