The paper shows the basic problems of implementation of the cross-sector cooperation, in the frame of area-based partnerships, for specified rural areas in years 2001-2004 in Poland. In this period partnerships were created with international sources support and with appreciable participation of non-government organisations. The main obstacles to their actions were: the insufficient financial resources, the lack of legal form of self-governments, NGOs and entrepreneurships cooperation with equal rights, tendencies for leaders' domination in group's actions, weak organisational structures and the lack of long-term strategies. The first effects of cooperation are little; they deal with social affairs and tourist promotion, but they show the positive role of such type coalitions in local development.

Among various attempts to create international associations integrating the countries of the South, two cases: Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Mercado Comun del Cono Sur deserve particular attention. Not because of their, rather modest, achievements, but due to the institutional characteristics, economic, political and cultural ambitions and the determination to search for original ways of development. ASEAN and MERCOSUR countries are ready to cooperate with the important global partners but, at the same time, have their own, independent views on many issues, in which in other circumstances, they would rather do easy concessions in favour of the powerful global organizations and countries.

The title of this article might suggest that it refers only to the global economy, discussing problems that are not important for particular localities, regions or universities. Such reasoning is however wrong. I the near future the globalisation of industries, services, investments, finance, labour markets and knowledge will expand, regardless the protectionism of nations. The effects of globalisation will touch everybody: countries, regions, local societies and individuals. If we want to be successful, both as a country and as individuals, we have to be well prepared for this process.

This paper proposes an analysis of the manner in which knowledge value chains derive specific but differentiated advantage from distinctive categories of knowledge over geographical space and time. It explores the problematic juxtaposition of tacit and codified knowledge transfer as a simple matter of conversations among binary actors, proposing the concept of "complicit' knowledge as a necessary category capturing the multitude of intermediary agents involved in actual knowledge translation to move from the implicit raw state to the explicit innovation representing new knowledge capable of attracting market demand.

In this second part of the article (the first part was published in the previous issue of the journal) the author’s attention is focused on the analysis of archival historical documentary sources of parish origin: metric books. The task is to recreate a picture of the parish inhabitants’ life expectancy through such parameters as birth rate and mortality characteristics. Two questions are under consideration: what the main death causes were and what the general spectrum of diseases during the two comparatively searched periods of parish community demographical development was.

The author analyzes documents from Russian archives and libraries to determine their value in reference to biography reconstruction of the eminent Russian historian-medievalist George Fedotov (1886–1951). The State Archive of Saratov region contains documents that afford ample opportunities to comprehensively characterize his revolutionary activities. Documents, stored in the Central State Archive of St. Petersburg and the Russian State Historical Archive, provide extensive data instrumental in the definition of the main facts related to his studies at the University of St. Petersburg.Evidence of the young historian’s work on the library premises are deposited in the archives of the Russian National Library. Last, not least, George Fedotov’s correspondence with Tatiana Dmitrieva, held in the Research Department of Manuscripts of the Russian State Library, is the main source for understanding the motives of his actions. Analyzing his letters, the author argues that self-reflection, expressed in them, became the basis for a subsequent formation of his research method.

They both were invested with the duty to organize peasants’ military service in 1649 in Zaonezhskiy Pogost. The main attention is given to the conflict of authority and its consequences: deadline violation of the tsar’s decree realization.

The article is concerned with the Bible-musical leitmotif “song of songs” present in the early works of Platonov written in 1910–1920. Based on the principle of counterpoint the leitmotif includes in itself both a traditional Bible-Christian content and revolutionary-utopian one. A special role played by the leading motive is conditioned by the musical principle of perception on which Platonov’s artistic philosophy is based.
