Developing competences of parents and teachers in the field of media education

A success in developing children media literacy in young school age stems from the enthusiasm of teachers and parents, their effective cooperation, as well as their interest in development of their competences in the field of media education. Parents who are in close relation with a child need to have the competences that help their children in shaping of their personalities with regard to the edia sphere. The paper presents partial results of research aimed at investigating the interest in training and learning portals of the primary education teachers and parents to help them in developing their media competences. The results of the research have shown that teachers and parents are trying to acquire and develop their media competences mainly through the educational portals and teachers are also interested in training in the media education.

Setting boundaries in the use of media among children of primary education in Slovakia

The aim of the paper is to present partial results of the research focused on media education in primary schools in Slovakia. The results are related to the issue of setting boundaries for pupils of the third year of elementary school. We have observed which boudaries and rules do parents set for their children in terms of watching TV and using personal computer at home.

Computer games in the life of younger school age children

This article is focused on the presentation of partial results of the research VEGA1/0913/15: “Media literacy amongst the pupils of primary education”, in the context of the cooperation between the family and the school. It introduces the habits of pupils of 3rd grade in primary schools pertaining to/in terms of playing computer games, with an emphasis on the attitudes of parents to individual game genres. It analyzes the suitability of the most popular computer games which children play in Slovakia and probes the possible consequences of their effects.

Watching television by younger school children

The article presents theoretical aspect of children’s interest in TV programmes, followed by quantitative research on it. The presented research findings are an analysis of the children’s routine related to watching TV in the home environment.

Quantitative research and measurement in pedagogy, although criticized by many and often underestimated, is nevertheless necessary in the implementation of a number of educational and research projects, and it should be continuously improved. An interest in the global approach will focus on methodological limitations and inconsistencies in quantitative research with the attempt to identify opportunities for their improvement and minimization. In particular, it will concern irregularities related to the development of the justification of the topic, the formulation of research issues, the selection of research methods and techniques, and the deficiencies in the analysis of research results.

Metody mieszane w badaniach z udziałem dzieci — potrzeba i przydatność

This article presents the concept and fragments of the analyses of studies covering 369 pre-school children, which took place in different Polish cities in 2016. These were diagnostic and exploratory studies, the main aim of which was to identify and analyse specific manifestations of wisdom in children of senior pre-school age, during mental activity involving open tasks. Such studies and analyses of the research material collected could only be possible using mixed methods, which facilitated a better organisation of these studies and allowed for broader conclusions to be drawn, also with regard to generalisations of the results of the studies conducted.

Metoda obserwacji i analiza aktywności studentów w systemie kształcenia na odległość

The Big Data tools developed for marketing research, in particular the free YouTube Analytics system, have created unprecedented possibilities in the field of pedagogical research. YouTube’s provision of educational videos and presentations involves obtaining access to a number of reports and their comparisons. This solution allows the researcher not to deal with the collection and development of observational data. His/Her task concerns only their interpretation. The ability to track indicators concerned with maintaining attention together with the mechanisms of filtering reports according to demographic data, sources of access, time, etc., allows for the formulation of a very wide range of research problems. The mass character of this type of implicit observation offers researchers new ways of interpreting the behaviour of students, and, above all, modifying and implementing the educational media tested.

The aim of the article is to emphasize the importance of research for improving educational activities through describing and explaining their effects and implementing changes. The school has been characterised as a researching and researched institution, also teacher’s research roles have been described. It points to the need for conducting research which is targeted at progress involving researchers, scientists and practising teachers. The article presents the outline of research idea and first results of research conducted on school and teacher’s expectations regarding educational research.

Drama a wyniki egzaminu gimnazjalnego z języka polskiego

The aim of the article is to show the impact of drama classes on the degree of students’ eloquence and the ability to write correctly and develop argumentation at the gymnasium Polish language exam. The theoretical part evokes opinions of drama theoreticians and practitioners referring to the use of drama in the teaching and upbringing process. The practical part presents the relationship between drama and language education of pupils as well as the results of OKE reports from 2016 and 2017 regarding the issues of linguistic correctness, and especially the correct construction of sentences. This part also contains the results of research carried out among junior high school students from the City and Municipality of Czerwionka-Leszczyny and their short description. The research uses the method of a diagnostic survey based on a survey technique, using a questionnaire as a research tool, a method of document analysis and a method of analyzing the outcomes of students work.

The aim of the article is the analysis of one of over dozen categories of entries, entitled “Memories, Memories”, which was posted on the official student blog of the Secondary School No. 1 in Zamość. The analysis includes 18 entries with comments from the years 2015 to 2016. The content concerns memories of teachers who were commemorated on the blog in connection with the 100th anniversary of the school. The article is meant to help to answer two questions: 1. How do students present memories of their former school teache 2. How does running a school blog develop media competence of students?

This text addresses the problem of research called “experimental trials” in the diploma theses of students of teacher studies at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology at the University of Silesia in Katowice. The authors put together the concepts of innovation, , and creativity, describe the method of pedagogical experiment and especially the type of natural experiments which in the literature are called “experimental trials”, pointing to the advantages of such empirical research in acquiring future teachers’ research competences. At the same time, they note the usefulness of this type of research in the process of evaluation of the broadly understood didactic and educational process and building the self-realization competence of teachers.

Przegląd badań nad motywacją w szkole

This article focuses on the issue of motivation, which from a teacher’s point of view belongs to the psychological field of study. Nowadays the world gives us much more possibilities than ever before. Despite this fact, the main motivational factor in Polish schools are still grades, which are the tools of extrinsic motivation. It is worth considering whether extrinsic motivation, which boils down to the reward and punishment system, is able to help learners to find energy, courage and strength to respond the different challenges and make their dreams come true. Is it working? Does it give the learners confidence and courage? Does it encourage to want more? The answers to these questions may be found in this article. There are not many studies in Poland which concern the role of motivation in schools. The article presents two analyses of research results on primary-school children motivation and on effectiveness of different ways of motivating used by teachers of primary schools. It takes into consideration the fact that in the case of primary-school children motivation is still developing.

Krytyka metodologiczna w ocenie dorobku habilitacyjnego

"Methodological critique" is a form of scientific critique along with philosophical, empirical, theoretical or logical critique. It does not require any special justification to recognize this form of critique as the most important, the most meaningful and most decisive in assessing the postdoctoral achievements. In the summary, I refer only to one legal argument that obtaining a postdoctoral degree is a kind of "pass", entitling one to adjudicate on the scientific achievements of others and to appear in various roles related to awarding (or refusing to award) the academic degree of a particular person. In the chapter, I present some of the most important questions to which I was seeking answers, assessing the work indicated as the main scientific achievement. This unitary example seems to be a good illustration of the problems, controversies and dilemmas appearing when one is preparing an opinion for a meeting of the Postdoctoral Degree Awarding Committee. Uncovering your own reflection on a specific work can be a contribution to the discussion of the reviewer's role in the postdoctoral degree procedure and the place and role of methodological critique in this procedure, especially when the author of the indicated achievement has not shown due diligence to reliably present and authenticate his/her research concept.

„Dajmy dzieciom to, co mamy najlepszego” O podstawie pedagogicznej działu literatury dla dzieci i młodzieży wydawnictwa Jakuba Mortkowicza

The catchword “Let us give children the best we have”, which Jakub and Janina Mortkowicz gave to the children’s section that they founded in 1906, suggests that their publishing activity in the fi eld of children and youth literature was inspired by contemporary pedagogy. In the present paper an attempt is made to test this hypothesis by paying attention to two essays published in 1904: Główne cechy i zadania literatury powszechnej dla młodzieży [The main features and tasks of youth literature] by Stanisław Karpowicz and O wychowaniu estetycznym [On the aesthetic education] by Janina Mortkowiczowa herself. The analysis of their content and examples of their infl uence on books published by Mortkowicz should prove that Karpowicz and Mortkowiczowa’s essays form the pedagogical foundation of the children’s section of Mortkowicz’s publishing house.

Mortkowiczowie – Brzechwa – Themersonowie, czyli projekt nowoczesnej książki dla dzieci

The article is an attempt to show the modern trends of the publishing house of Jakub Mortkowicz in creating a book for children. The innovative concept of the book had its source in the pedagogical refl ection of Janina Mortkowiczowa, which grew out of pedagogical tendencies from the early twentieth century. The author of the article shows that the cooperation of Mortkowicz’s publishing house with Jan Brzechwa and Franciszka and Stefan Themerson was aimed at the implementation of the most important publishing mission − creating a welldesigned children’s book.

W poszukiwaniu szkoły idealnej Opowiadania z serii „Z naszej szkoły” Janiny Mortkowicz

The article presents the most important attributes of the rural and urban school described by Janina Mortkowicz in the collection of short stories „From our school” published in 1918 and 1919. I present described schools as ideal educational institutions. I consider several issues: developing the pupils’ imagination, education through art, nature education, independence of students and the teacher. At the end I briefl y compare this ideal school with the main features of the contemporary Finnish school, described by T.D. Walker in Teach like Finland: 33 simple strategies for joyful classrooms.
