The paper attempts to determine statistical correlations between the Knowledge Economy Index (KEI) and the measure of men and women’s equali-ty/inequality reflected in the Gender Equality Index. According to the authors’ hypothesis such correlations exist. The authors chose the methods of estimation of functional interdependencies between the selected data (KEI, GEI) for the states of the European Union. The analysis confirmed the occurrence of statistically significant positive correlations between the studied indicators, proving that the knowledge-based economy encouraged gender equality. The strongest correlations with the knowledge-based economy were found for such components of the Gender Equality Index as “Time”, “Work” and “Knowledge”, lesser ones for “Money” and “Health” and the smallest for “Power”.

Gauss introduced the MLSq and Helmert completed its development whereas Bessel made important discoveries in astronomy and geodesy but was often extremely inattentive. Gauss’ final condition of least variance led to effective estimators of the unknowns sought, jointly effective in case of the normal distribution of the observational errors. Gauss’ memoire of 1823 leads to the principle of least squares much easier than generally thought.

In the first part of the article the author describes some of the major theoretical approaches relating to the stylistic differentiation of the post-war Polish language. The author finally concludes that the multiplicity of the so-far presented models makes it impossible to adopt a uniform typological scheme of the stylistic differentiation of contemporary Polish. In the following parts of the article the author presents in a reporting manner the most significant accomplishments of Polish post-1989 linguistics in the field of research on particular stylistic variants of Polish, focusing especially on the studies devoted to the following styles: colloquial, scientific, artistic, official (formal), religious and public spoken (rhetoric).

“The Eulenburg’s case” shocked European public in 1907–1909. “Homosexual camarilla” became the object of derision, contempt and condemnation in the Second Republic of Poland and beyond. In this paper, the author argues that the key to understanding the condition of our contemporaries lies in how and what we hear. We tend to perceive culture and our social environment visually and, because of this dominant visual perspective, we consider hearing to be of secondary importance. That is why we need to contest such vision-centric hegemony limited to one sense only. The paper situates itself within soundscape studies - the field approaching sound as a significant resource of the environment, the fount of meanings and aesthetic experiences. Special attention has been given to transformations occurring in the soundscape, changing functions of sounds as well as the positive impact of landscape (including its soundscape) on people’s mental wellbeing.

Fr. Franciszek Blachnicki put the teaching of the Second Vatican Council into practice. Rooted in his personal conversion (experience of the living Jesus), the formation of the baptized he proposed was based on the example of the catechumenate and took the form of the Light-Life Movement, which offers a way of spiritual growth still followed by many groups of believers. The work of Fr. Blachnicki may be an inspiration for the universal Church, especially with respect to the significance of a personal spiritual encounter with the risen Jesus, inner life being set in active participation in the liturgy, personal prayer based on the Bible, commitment to a small community of growth, and service in various areas of the Church’s life, particularly evangelization. It is therefore worthwhile to discover the depth of the spiritual and pastoral heritage of Fr. Blachnicki. His guidelines may be very helpful in responding to the challenges the Church is facing now.

In the first part of his paper the author refers to texts by father Blachnicki which were published in Tygodnik Powszechny in 1973. This inspired a wide-ranging discussion on an actual condition of the Polish Catholicism. Referring to results of a sociological research on Polish religiousness made by father Piwowarski, Blachnicki pointed at weaknesses of a traditional ministry and existing forms of catechesis of these times. At the same time he suggested four major directions of a renewal in the conciliar spirit. According to Blachnicki the said measures should be taken to reach the following aims: renewal of catechesis, renewal of Polish families, organization of a catechesis for the grown-ups and a renewal of a liturgy. In his paper the author tries to look at the said issues in a spirit of pastoral and scientific searches of father Blachnicki. The aim is to look at the range of topics from a contemporary ministry perspective and point at the tasks which, in spite of genuine efforts of the past years, still call for their final accomplishment.
