The coming into force of the new Law on the Enforcement of Criminal Sanctions (LECS) on 1 October 1998 and of the Decree on the Establishment of Institutions for the Enforcement of Institutional Sanctions on 23 May 1998 were major steps forward in reforming and modernizing our country’s system for the enforcement of criminal sanctions and its harmonization with relevant international legal acts. Nonetheless, although five years have passed since their adoption, a great many of their provisions are yet to be put into practice. What is more, although at the time of its adoption the new law was welcomed as a long-overdue innovation designed to meet the pressing need to bring our country’s legislation into line with relevant international standards, at the time of writing it appears obsolete and incompatible. This is why an analysis of the system of enforcement of institutional criminal sanctions in our country and its comparison to those of other countries on the basis of relevant legal provisions alone would be purely fictitious. We therefore decided against such an approach. The current state of affairs outlined above made our task much more difficult in many ways. Instead of concentrating on detecting ‘minor’ inconsistencies in the enforcement of criminal sanctions and contemplating ways of eliminating them, we found ourselves confronted with something we considered inconceivable, i.e. the absence of a single strategy, of a well-conceived system, and of a well-defined network of institutions. In so chaotic a climate, marked by disregard for even fundamental legal provisions (e.g. those determining the categories of institution, their classification, etc.), it was impossible to verify the general theoretical propositions on which the whole system ought to rest and consequently to see their practical implications. Instead, much of our effort consisted in detecting and discussing major derogation’s from the LECS and relevant international standards. The final chapter of this work comprises general conclusions based on the findings presented on the preceding pages, as well as recommendations for promoting the enforcement of criminal sanctions, primarily with a view to protecting the basic human rights of imprisoned or detained persons. In order to ensure systematic presentation and ease of reference, the conclusions and recommendations are subsumed according to their content under the six subjects discussed earlier.

The EU on granting China market economy status: a compromise or a dodge?

Author(s): Jakub Jakóbowski,Marcin Kaczmarski / Language(s): English

Keywords: China; WTO; World Trade Organisation; MES

China joined the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in 2001 as an economy which was undergoing transformation and did not yet have market economy status (MES). This enabled other WTO members, including the European Union, to be more flexible in imposing anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese exporters. China’s accession protocol provides for the elimination of one of the anti-dumping procedures after 15 years, i.e. in December 2016. The upcoming changes have fuelled a dispute in Europe regarding the interpretation of the conditions of China’s accession to the WTO and the future of trade relations between the EU and China.

The Migration of Literary Ideas: The Problem of Romanian Symbolism

Author(s): Cosmina Andreea ROŞU / Language(s): English / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: writing; ideas; prose poem; symbol; fantasy

The migration of symbolists’ ideas in Romanian literary field during the 1900’s occurs mostly due to poets. One of the symbolist poets influenced by the French literature (the core of the Symbolism) and its representatives is Dimitrie Anghel. He manages symbols throughout his entire writings, both in poetry and in prose, as a masterpiece. His vivid imagination and fantasy reinterpret symbols from a specific Romanian point of view. His approach of symbolist ideas emerges from his translations from the French authors but also from his original writings, since he creates a new attempt to penetrate another sequence of the consciousness. Dimitrie Anghel learns the new poetics during his years long staying in France.

The Role of Learning Style in the Relationship Between Cognitive Ability and Academic Performance in Primary Schooling

Author(s): Maria Magdalena Stan / Language(s): English / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: Learning style; learning strategies; cognitive ability; academic performance; school success.

School readiness is understood as a process of directed development of knowledge and skills that will allow a quick and easy adjustment of children to the new requirements of Grade 1. Traditionally, preparedness for school is associated with academic performance and acquisition. Most practitioners consider cognitive ability as a core element of academic success. This is described as a set of mental abilities and aptitudes that associates unidirectionally with academic acquisitions. The use of a differentiated psycho-diagnosis methodology during schooling allows us to evaluate the general level of the child’s psycho-social development and the possibility to make some predictions about his academic performances as well as to carry out specific psycho-educational interventions. The primary aim of this research was to examine the role of learning styles and learning strategies in the relationship between cognitive ability and academic performance in primary schooling. We consider that through this approach on the factors which influence academic performance-learning style and cognitive abilities, the present study may constitute a reference point for practitioners in education to help them design adequate instructional strategies which would meet pupils needs and choices in acquiring specific competences.

Evaluation of the Current Position of CSR in the Logistics Sector

Author(s): Simona Činčalová / Language(s): English / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: Corporate social responsibility; logistics; Czech Republic

Purpose:The paper focuses on the evaluation of the current position of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the logistics sector. Logistics plays a huge role within today ́s economy (an important part of GDP). It reports author ́s findings from a questionnaire survey. The aim of the research is to evaluate the use and scope of CSR implementation in medium and large enterprises operating in the NUTS 2 region, to identify the reasons for non-using of CSR policy in enterprises. Design/methodology/approach:In order to gain the knowledge about using of the CSR concept in business practice, the primary quantitative research was chosen, in which a questionnaire survey was conducted and sent to 70 businesses in September and October 2017. There wasa total of 11questions, both closed, open and semi-open. The data of 29 respondents were supplemented by the theory in this field and documentary analysis, including internal documents, descriptions of internal processes, employee magazine articles. Based on the evaluation of the questionnaire, research questions were answered. Findings: It was found that the most important motive for implementation CSR in a company is according to the surveyed companies “improving the reputation and image”. On the other hand, the biggest obstacle to the introduction of CSR is “lack of time”. This may be related to the lack of qualified staff. The most enterprises ensure the coherence of the CSR concept and the corporate strategy, but do not certificate CSR and are not going to do it. There were also described some CSR activities in three-bottom-line and its measurement. Research/practical implications:Results are relevant for medium and big enterprises in the sector Transport, exactly for top management (as CSR makers). It suggests that concept CSR is one of the ways how to for example improve the reputation of the company. It is needed to link this concept to the business strategy. This topic deserves a future research and there is a great field for potential researchers. Originality/value:The paper complements and extends findings of Czech and foreign studies in this field. There are lots of studies about corporate social responsibility, but this empirical analysis was conducted based on the research gap in the studies related to theCzech Republics ́ enterprises in the logistics sector. This study has an originality value of using primary data collected by the author.

Selling Out: The Financialization of Contemporary Art

Author(s): Hannah Rose Emmert / Language(s): English / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: art market; art investments; financialization; art indexes;

This project came out of a behavioral economics class I took in 2016. Behavioral economics is the synthesis of human psychology and the more formulaic aspects of economics. I used this discipline as a lens for looking at how the financial services industry exploited the contemporary art market with it’s lack of regulation and transparency. My aim is to show the various ways this drastic financialization has happened by discussing the various heuristics used to value art and the financial instruments that financialized contemporary art mimics. Furthermore, I have found evidence that art is being used as collateral for important assets such as pension funds. The fact that art is volatile and unregulated makes art an unreliable investment and certainly not stable enough to base pension fund values on. This is the beginning of future research that I plan to conduct in an attempt to predict the eminent collapse of these contemporary art financial instruments. I hope to present this paper outline to book publishers to elaborate my findings into a book for industry professionals.

Author(s): Ina Kehrberg-Ostrasz / Language(s): English,French / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: pottery figurines; moulds; moulded vessels; Roman; Byzantine; pottery workshops; Gerasa/Jarash hippodrome; replicas; iconography; chronology

This paper presents a collection of pottery moulds for ceramic figurines and moulded vessels from the 1984–1996 excavations (Dir. Antoni Ostrasz) of the pottery workshops at the hippodrome site of Gerasa/Jarash. The discussion focuses on their scarcity or singular occurrences among vast amounts of pottery, mould-made lamps and lamp moulds from the Classical periods’ workshops at the site. It is posited that figurines, unlike lamps, are not mass produced and instead ordered by clients and made for specific festivals, elucidating the lack of figurine fragments among the vast pottery waste of workshops which included many lamp fragments. The producer–vendor and client relationship is examined based on the comparison of a small number of finds from other excavated sites in Gerasa/Jarash where figurines had evidently been used. Lastly the paper reflects on replications of mould-made figurine and lamp types in antiquity and iconographic dating criteria in varying find contexts.

Concept EDUCATION in Harry Potter’s Stories by J.K. Rowling

Author(s): Tatiana A. Kudelko / Language(s): English / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: concept EDUCATION; postnonclassical paradigm of education;

The paper offers one of the methods of teaching the foreign language with the help of the intertextuality of the proper names. The paper deals with the necessary changes in the postnonclassical paradigm of the education. The author underlines the urgency of the coincidence of the modern system of education to the requirements of the society (consider, generation Alpha). New technologies of ICT, multidisciplinary researches and magic methods of teaching should be effectively applied in classroom and extracurricular work of students. Therefore, the author studies the specific language devices in Harry Potter’s stories to point out the stylistic methods of the intertextuality. The questions of the possibility of the application of the methods used in Harry Potter’s series are discussed in the article to follow the study motivation of students. Our research considers the process of the conceptualization of the education and its representation in the literary text. The object of the analysis is the concept EDUCATION being the social and cultural value throughout centuries. We study the ways this concept is refracted in the fantasy by J.K. Rowling. The books about Harry Potter are of great demand in the modern society. They influence the mentality of different ages (especially teens: from 7 to 16 years). This article views one of the sub-slots of concept EDUCATION from the side of the cognitive and discourse analysis that has led to the construction of the frame of concept EDUCATION in Harry Potter’s.

Teenagers’ perception of a contemporary library

Teenagers’ perception of a contemporary library

Współczesna biblioteka oczami nastolatka

Author(s): Aiga Grenina / Language(s): English / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: teenager;library

The aim of the article is to reveal teenagers’ perception of a contemporary library. The research is carried out in accordance with the original study conducted by the author. Written answers given by Latvian teenagers (n=61) to the open-ended question “What should a contemporary library be like?” were analysed using NVivo software. All the respondents were 14-16 years old students (Form 8 or Form 9) from five comprehensive day schools of big cities of Latvia. The study resulted in a mind map, containing three hierarchy levels with 51 categories and subcategories in total. Five main categories for classifying teenagers’ associations are as follows: “library and technologies” (n=48), “information resources” (n=48), “premises” (n=39), “general description” (n=19) and “user- -friendly staff” (n=11). Most of the associations classified as “library and technologies” are devoted to a perception of a library as a place providing public access to computers and internet. Meanwhile “information resource” mainly contains references to a library as a place where printed books are kept. The study results show that it is vital to perform activities in order to change teenagers’ perception of a contemporary library as a physical space which mainly operates as an access point to computers and printed books.

Author(s): Jelena Tešić,Dragan Gligoric / Language(s): English / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: Bosnia and Herzegovina; European Union; External Trade; CEFTA

The process of European Union (EU) enlargement following the accession of Bulgaria and Romania will go towards the accession of Western Balkan countries. Region of the Western Balkans is consisted of six countries. Some of these countries have the status of the candidate country (Croatia, Macedonia and Montenegro) while Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has the status of potential candidate, along with Serbia and Albania. Subject of this paper represent an analysis of trade aspects of the relations between BiH and the EU since EU is the most important trade partner of BiH. In addition, the subject of this paper will include an overview of the signing and establishment of CEFTA Agreement between countries in the region because the membership in this free trade zone represents one of the important steps towards EU membership. The goal of this paper is to empirically investigate how the BiH’s products are represented on the EU market and vice versa, what is the structure of its import and export, and in this context, what are the possible problems. Also, our goal is to analyze the possible future improvements for BiH in the context of trade relations with the EU. PUBLIC SPACES IN URBAN POLICY: EVOLUTION OF APPROACHES ON THE EXAMPLE OF A POST-SOCIALIST CITY

Author(s): Sylwia Dudek-Mańkowska,Mirosław Grochowski / Language(s): English / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: public space; post-socialist city; Warsaw

The chapter deals with the issues of shaping, management and functioning of public spaces in the city that has experienced changes of systemic conditions for its development. The case study is Warsaw – the capital of Poland, which has undergone a profound functional and spatial transformation, resulting from the change of the political system in Poland in 1990. The change of the political system led to the emergence of new rules governing the development of cities. The re-birth of territorial self-government and the empowerment of society resulted in a new situation in which the local community – i.e. the city authorities and its inhabitants – not the central government or the communist party, decides about the city’s development paths and the ways and forms of developing its space, including public spaces. Residents have the opportunity to articulate their needs and interests. The city government is responsible for coordinating development programming and spatial planning. One of the goals of the city’s social and spatial policy is to provide residents with the high quality public spaces. These spaces have played different roles in Warsaw over the years and have had different meanings for the inhabitants. The chapter presents the evolution of the approach to public spaces presented by the city authorities and residents. Its causes and effects are discussed. The chapter also includes an assessment of the activities of the city authorities that lead to the formulation of a policy for the development of public spaces. The text uses the results of the study conducted by the authors of the chapter for the purposes of implementing the Warsaw development strategy #Warszawa2030.

Tourism architecture by Czech architects on the Croatian Adriatic coast during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy

Author(s): Jasenka Kranjčević / Language(s): English / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: Austro-Hungarian Monarchy; Croatian Adriatic; Czech architects; tourism architecture

The paper explores whether Czech architects, as Slavic architects, contributed to the contemporary tourism development on the Croatian Adriatic at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, when the eastern Adriatic coast was part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.Designing basic tourism architecture (hotels, villas and bathing places), aside from giving them a shape, requires specialized functional, technical and technological knowledge. To draw a conclusion, tourism architecture designed by Czech architects is explored in the context of tourism expansion and tourism architecture progress, including its influence on the space and the forming of tourist landscape. In any case, built and unbuilt examples of tourism architecture by Czech architects on the Croatian Adriatic at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century contributed to the development of architectural thought on tourism architecture, as well as to the forming of a recognizable tourist landscape.

The education system is facing great challenges due to the unexpected epidemiological situation caused by the COVID-19 virus, which has hit the whole world. The aim of this research is to examine and determine the manner of implementation of online teaching of sports activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. 1000 students from the University of Sarajevo participated in the research. The method used is a survey questionnaire. Based on the obtained data, we can conclude that classes in sports activities are mostly realized online. 82.4% of students state that most teachers don’t perform sports activity exercises online, but only send certain theoretical assignments. Although 100% of the respondents believe that sports activities are important for health and that it is necessary to exercise at least 60 minutes a day, 61% believe that sports activities are less important than other subjects. 58.1% believes that the content of exercises from sports activities cannot be successfully realized online. 58.8% of respondents believe that the contents of exercises from sports activities can be realized at home. 77.9% of respondents believe that there are difficulties in implementation of the content of these exercises for those who live in an apartment. The students listed various difficulties they encountered. 45.5% of respondents believe that props for performing these exercises can be made and improvised in various ways. The contents of exercises from sports activities that the respondents believe cannot be realized online at home or in the apartment are martial arts, swimming, some natural forms of movement, athletics, sports games, rhythmic gymnastics, obstacle courses, most elementary games. 60.8% of respondents believe that the best way to implement online classes in sports activities is a live demonstration. It can be concluded that exercises from sports activities can be realized online, but that depends on the creativity of each teacher.
