Literary Theory. Volume 1 Questions and Trials

Литературна теория. Том 1 Питания и изпитания

Author(s): Nikola Georgiev / Language(s): Bulgarian

Keywords: Literature; literary theory; criticism; trials; questions; non-fiction; theory; systems; problems; context; writer; writing; critic; canon; culture; sense; literary science; rhetorical; forms of speech; book; books

Extremely delicate, well-trained and fine man, Nikola Georgiev is an unspoken polemist in the field of science: a rebel who crashes systems. The critic in science directly or indirectly deals with methodological problems; the scholar creates an interpretative context of new literary works and discourages established hierarchies in the literary canon. Nikola Georgiev de-concentrates every routine, and with an infinitely rich rhetorical instrumentation covers the range of almost all forms of speech - from sharp sarcasm and subtle irony to schizophrenic severity and metaphysical reflexivity, thus indicating the limitations and risks of any talk, writing, and theoretical style of literature that deviates from rationality and faith in the social, cultural and human sense of literary science. Nikola Georgiev's work should be published and studied over and over again and this is the reason why he published this book in two volumes. The first includes both the published and unreleased works of the author. He could not reach all that we would like: the volume would have disturbed even the most daring reader. – Sava Savchev

Word by Word...Entertaining Lexicology

От дума на дума... Занимателна лексикология

Author(s): Boris Parashkevov / Language(s): Bulgarian

Keywords: Vocabulary; Lexicology; lexicography; epistemology; semantics; Etymology; word; formation; words; nouns; unfamiliar form; categories; language; linguistic; Bulgarian; Bulgaria; encyclopedic; dictionary; origins; etymological; terms; book; books

One of the parts of linguistics is the science of words called lexicology. Lexicology is the part of linguistics which studies words. This includes their nature and function as symbols, their meaning, the relationship of their meaning to epistemology in general, and the rules of their composition from smaller elements. Lexicological issues are discussed and elucidated in general manuals and in specific scientific developments, and their results find a generalization and practical application in dictionaries, i.e. in lexicography. This lexicon is claimed to be a practical complement to the theoretical formulations of lexicology and corrective sort of data in lexicography, where the etymological reference is rarely comprehensive and not always reliable. In the book, in the form of 357 dictionary articles and with the apparatus of the lexicological categories in front of the reader, many specific questions related to the origin and history of some of the words in the Bulgarian language are discussed. The explanatory notes draw information from the achievements of three other linguistic areas: etymology, semantics and word formation.

Keywords: Japan; Japanese; language; culture; religion; history; values; traditions; mythology; knowledge; study; research; state; society; wisdom; book; books

Bratislav Ivanov's new book is dedicated to the values and traditions of the Japanese culture. Already in the early twentieth century, French scientist Henry Dumolard draws attention to the fact that the Japanese people are guided by their logic and draw conclusions that are often incomprehensible to Europeans. To understand the Japanese people, we need to know the values that form the core of their culture. A key to their understanding is the geographical environment, mythology, religion, and Japan's history.

Corporate Commercial Bank - The State

Държавата КТБ

Author(s): Zornitsa Markova,Tatyana Puncheva- Vassileva,Nikolay Stoyanov,Rosen Bosev,Ilin Stanev,Ani Kodzhaivanova,Desislava Leshtarska / Language(s): Bulgarian

Keywords: Bulgaria; state; politics; banking sector; private business; interests; money; power; corruption; oligarchy; backstage; journalistic investigation; mafia; scheme; money; Boyko Borisov; journalism; Transparency International; book; books

This book is the result of a two-year journalistic investigation that traces the history of Corporate Commercial Bank from its origin to its bankruptcy (1994-2014). The investigation was conducted on the basis of dozens of meetings with direct participants or witnesses of the events, representatives of state structures, political parties, business, regulators. In the process, hundreds of official and informal documents have been analyzed. Access to information by Bulgarian and international organizations has been requested many times. The collected facts, data, documents, and exclusive testimonies included in this book contain for the first time conclusive evidence of political corruption in Bulgaria. The aim of the KTBfiles project is to show the genesis of the "CCB model" (Corporate Commercial Bank model) and the technology of its expansion to magnitude, which pressed all key state institutions to the wall. The book explores the circumstances that made this vicious model possible, as well as the mechanisms for its eradication. This makes the investigation much more comprehensive, multi-layered and important than the chronology of bank bankruptcy, whether it is the largest in Bulgarian history. This qualitative journalistic investigation answers not only to the question #WHO but also to the questions how, why and especially what follows if we stop asking and live permanently with civil indifference and cynicism.

Evaluation of the Integrity System in the Banking Sector in Bulgaria

Оценка на системата за почтеност в банковия сектор в България

Author(s): Bulgaria Transparency International,Vanya Kashukeva-Nusheva,Daniela Mihalkova,Kalin Slavov,Boyan Ivantchev,Petyo Slavov,Ognyan Minchev / Language(s): Bulgarian

Keywords: Bulgaria; Corporate Commercial Bank; politics; banking sector; private business; interests; money; power; corruption; oligarchy; journalistic investigation; mafia; scheme; backstage; journalism; Transparency International Bulgaria; book;books;

This study is provoked by one of the most significant cases of abuses over the last two decades in Bulgaria - the bankruptcy of CCB (Corporate Commercial Bank), the fourth largest bank in the country. After the 1996-1997 crisis, when one third of the banks went bankrupt, the country's banking sector collapsed. This is the second case in which huge financial resources "evaporated" and the negative consequences affected a wide range of public institutions and private subjects. The emergence of periodically recurring financial crises, with multiple impacts on public, economic and political life, motivates Transparency International Bulgaria to look for a systematic response to the problem and look beyond the specific case. The present book is based on the analytical approach of the international anti-corruption organization Transparency International "National Integrity System" which assesses clearly defined criteria, the capacity, functioning and management of sectors and institutions with key importance in counteracting corruption. The study is based on an analysis of the legislation and practical actions of the investigated institutions, a wide range of documentary sources, reports, assessments, media publications, and interviews with experts and public figures that have had direct observations and touch with the CCB case. It reflects an attempt to formulate an impartial, objective assessment of the functioning of the banking supervisory system in the 2009-2014 periods but also pursues another objective - to serve as a starting point for policies and strategic actions to give an adequate systemic response to established deficits. Viewed through this prism, this publication expresses the ambition of the Transparency International Bulgaria to not only prevent future crises of this nature, but also to contribute to the institutional strengthening of the system of supervisory institutions in Bulgaria.

Момчето

Author(s): Natsume Sōseki / Language(s): Japanese,Bulgarian

Keywords: Contemporary Japanese literature; Japanese; Botchan; culture; Japan; novel; widely read; bilingual edition; original text; translation; Bulgarian; light; funny; entertainment; book;books;

Like “The Catcher in the Rye” or “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”, “Botchan”, a hilarious tale about a young man's rebellion against "the system" in a country school, is a classic of its kind. Among Japanese readers both young and old it has enjoyed a timeless popularity, making it, according to Donald Keene, "probably the most widely read novel in modern Japan." The setting is Japan's Deep South, where the author himself spent some time teaching English in a boys' school. Into this conservative world, with its social proprieties and established pecking order, breezes Botchan, down from the big city, with scant respect for either his elders or his noisy young charges; and the result is a chain of collisions large and small. Much of the story seems to occur in summer, against the drone of cicadas, and in many ways this is a summer book light, funny, and never slow-moving. Here, in a lively new translation much better suited to Western tastes than any of its forebears, Botchan's homespun appeal is all the more apparent, and even those who have never been near the sunlit island on which these calamitous episodes take place should find in it uninterrupted entertainment.

Keywords: Liudprand of Cremona; Middle Ages; Мedieval European culture; religion; Constantinople; Italian; German; history; Byzantium; iron century; Otto the Great; diplomacy; diplomatic process; Roman Empire; Saxony; book;books;

This modern translation of all the surviving literary compositions ascribed to Liudprand, the bishop of Cremona from 962 to 972, offers unrivaled insight into society and culture in western Europe during the "iron century". Since Liudprand enjoyed the favor of the Saxon Roman emperor Otto the Great, and traveled to Constantinople more than once on official business, his narratives also reveal European attitudes toward the Byzantine Empire and the culture of its refined capital city. No other tenth-century writer had such privileged access to the high spheres of power, or such acerbic wit and willingness to articulate critiques of the doings of powerful people. Liudprand's historical texts (the Antapodosis on European events in the first half of the 900s, and his Historia Ottonison the rise to power of Otto the Great) provide a unique view of the recent past against a genuinely European backdrop, unusual in a time of localized cultural horizons. Liudprand's famous satirical description of his misadventures as Ottonian legate at the Byzantine court in 968 is a vital source of information on Byzantine ritual and diplomatic process, as well as a classic of medieval intercultural encounter. Readers interested in medieval European culture, the history of diplomacy, Italian and German medieval history, and the history of Byzantium will find this collection of translated texts rewarding. A full introduction and extensive notes help readers to place Liudprand's writings in context.

"Sava Slavchev's essays are balanced, elegant and erudite, completely devoid of unnecessary categorical timelines. Here's what I wrote to the author as soon as I read his book: "This is your form, the enjoyment of freedom in the way you use it is evident. I wanted the end of the essay in the part on literature and culture to be bolder and accusing, even sinister, to gain a place in the mind of the reader. Luckily there is nothing like that! The cultural man is known in the way he protects the culture, and I am a barbarian and realized myself as such while I was reading. But this awareness does not hurt me, no - it inspires me! „The Prince” was written by Niccolo' Machiavelli in the 1500s. It has continued to be a best seller in many languages. The Prince is a classic book that explores the attainment, maintenance, and utilization of political power in the western world. Machiavelli wrote The Prince to demonstrate his skill in the art of the state, presenting advice on how a prince might acquire and hold power. Machiavelli defended the notion of rule by force rather than by law. Accordingly, The Prince seems to rationalize a number of actions done solely to perpetuate power. It is an examination of power-its attainment, development, and successful use.

Keywords: Uncertainty; forms; human; sociology; research; fundamental conditions; phenomenon; social structure; political; economic; social; global; context; risky; condition; book; books

Prof. Georgy Fotev is a Bulgarian sociologist. His scientific works are in the areas of theory and history of sociology and the disciplinary fields of modern sociology. The focus of the research interests of G.Fotev is the nature of sociology as a multiple paradigm science. Another major theme in the works of Georgy Fotev is the dialogue as a base and horizon of multiple paradigm sociology. Georgy Fotev has publications in the fields of historical sociology, sociology of politics, ethnosociology, the crisis of legitimacy, sociology of values, etc. His books "The long night of communism in Bulgaria" and "Bulgarian melancholy" throw light on the dramatic fate of the Bulgarian national society. Georgy Fotev was Minister of Education and Science (1991 - 1992). He is professor emeritus of New Bulgarian University. In 2003 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the American University in Bulgaria. Mankind is shaken by a multitude of uncertainty. There is an increasing perception that uncertainty becomes permanent. The focus is on the existential, social, political, economic, global and other basic varieties of human uncertainty. The author explores the fundamental conditions of human uncertainty and the main forms of her manifestation and experience. The phenomenon is seen in the light of the new science of chaos and complexity in the context of the risky society/world, in terms of catastrophic consciousness and the conditions of crisis types. Particular attention is paid to trust as a fundamental social attitude and condition against decadent attitudes and nihilism.

Keywords: Dialect; literary language; wealth; interesting; curious; old; words; dictionary; diversity; village; Draganovo; linguistic; research; book; books;

The gardening in Hungary owes much to three Bulgarian settlements: Lyaskovets, Draganovo, Polikraishte. Two museums (in Budapest and Lyaskovets) testify to the importance of this link in Bulgarian-Hungarian relations. Draganovo is a village in Gorna Oryahovitsa Municipality, in Central Bulgaria. Draganovo is known in the area for its farms and vegetable gardens. Due to the fertile soil around the village, it is one of the main producers of cabbage and tomatoes in the central/northeastern regions of Bulgaria. After World War II gardeners from Draganovo has been dispatched to Hungary and other parts of Europe to help rebuild the land and make it fertile again. The river Yantra flows through the village. The river contributes for the village's fertile soils. In this book, you will find specific words, part of the dialect of speech from the village Draganovo, collected in a dictionary by Rumen Stoyanov.

According to CLEPA (the European association of automotive suppliers), there are more than 3000 automotive suppliers in EU member countries, with 5mln employees and turnover of more than EUR 600 bln. In Bulgaria, there are more than a hundred companies that deliver components to big multinationals from the automotive sectors. The majority of local suppliers (first, second and third tier) are independent local and foreign companies, although subsidiaries of international first-tier suppliers function as well. Irrespective of certain difficulties in the field research, the findings show the following: - Foreign buyers are not interested in the environmental and social policies of local suppliers. The social and environmental impact of the suppliers within the local community is not an interest as well; - Foreign buyers do not embed in their contracts with the suppliers' requirements for compliance with ESG standards; - Local suppliers comply with the legally established norms about air pollution, the protection of soil and water and the management of the waste. How have we interpreted the above findings: buyers rely on local legislation and they do not go beyond. We did not manage to contact the procurement offices of foreign buyers and their boards. We tried to discover evidence in their annual reports and we interviewed the representative offices of big multinationals - European and Asian. Despite the fact that we received similar answers, we did not include them in our analysis. Our research proved the importance of the holistic approach when evaluating sustainable development policy of listed companies. The reverse mirror is not a research method only. It is another tool for evaluating the effectiveness of sustainable framework of corporate governance.

Keywords: Balkan Cyrillic; manuscripts; textology; typology; study; sources and literary peculiarities; Southern Slavic; culture; tradition; translation; plectograms; Old Bulgarian Literature; Middle Ages; religion; christianity; church; orthodoxy; book; books

This book represents a study of the textology, typology, sources and literary peculiarities of the so-called ’miscellanies of mixed content' in the South Slavonic tradition (from the end of 13th – the beginning of 18th c.) – less known or unknown in the Humanities. The problem is closely related to the apocryphal collections in the Balkan Cyrillic manuscripts, as the Apocrypha are a significant part of this type of manuscripts. The scope of the study is to popularize the series and texts that fill the gap in the translation and perception of the Slavonic Apocrypha. New information is presented over the sources of translations, as well as the compilation approach of Slavonic writers, which reproduces a new version of the texts. The copies of the Slavonic texts are published in the supplement. The typology of manuscripts is supported by plectograms produced in the Repertory of Old Bulgarian Literature and Letters (http://repertorium.obdurodon.org/).

This book is dedicated to those, who wish for a stress-free natural environment for themselves, their children and their children’s children. The narrative tells the story of how investments – a critical factor in the global economy – can mitigate the impact of climate change. Finding a way for the key corporate governance players to reconcile economic and sustainable development criteria is the main theme. This is a point that needs to be understood by the global community, because, unlike financial crises, the ill effects of global warming can not be reversed.Working on sustainable development issues from the vantage point of corporate governance is a continuous journey, as new topical phenomena emerge and their proper place must be found in the scientific narrative.English.
