Sustainable Corporate Governance in 21st century

Author(s): Bistra Boeva / Language(s): English

This book is dedicated to those, who wish for a stress-free natural environment for themselves, their children and their children’s children. The narrative tells the story of how investments – a critical factor in the global economy – can mitigate the impact of climate change. Finding a way for the key corporate governance players to reconcile economic and sustainable development criteria is the main theme. This is a point that needs to be understood by the global community, because, unlike financial crises, the ill effects of global warming can not be reversed.Working on sustainable development issues from the vantage point of corporate governance is a continuous journey, as new topical phenomena emerge and their proper place must be found in the scientific narrative.English. First edition (Updated First Bulgarian edition, 2018)

Author(s): Petar Beron / Language(s): French

Petar Beron Sc.D worked at the Institute of Zoology and the National Museum of Natural History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences as a biologist from 1963 to 2010. Specializing in acarology and Biospeleology, he began exploring caves and cave fauna since 1955. In his journeys, he discovered many new species of caves and animals. Author and co-author of many books and articles on speleology, zoogeography, and acarology. The second monograph of the series, devoted to the cave fauna of the Balkan Peninsula, treats Greece, a country full of caves (more than 10 miles) and only 240 caves have been the subject of biospeleological research. The 630 species of cavernicolous animals, published until 2015, are listed with their localities and notes on their biology. The caves of some animals are briefly described, and some observations have been made of the zoogeography of this fauna. The Greek fauna is compared with the cave faunas of neighboring countries. The bibliography contains more than 300 titles of works regarding the Greek fauna inhabiting the caves. This fauna is very different from the fauna of neighboring countries. During the author's field surveys (since 1968) he has found several new species such as Speleodentorcula, Telsonius, Titanophyllum, Thassoblaniulus, Alistratia, Maroniela, Jason and others.

South Slavonic Apocryphal Collections

Author(s): Anisava Miltenova / Language(s): English,Bulgarian,Old Slavonic,Old Bulgarian

This book represents a study of the textology, typology, sources and literary peculiarities of the so-called ’miscellanies of mixed content' in the South Slavonic tradition (from the end of 13th – the beginning of 18th c.) – less known or unknown in the Humanities. The problem is closely related to the apocryphal collections in the Balkan Cyrillic manuscripts, as the Apocrypha are a significant part of this type of manuscripts. The scope of the study is to popularize the series and texts that fill the gap in the translation and perception of the Slavonic Apocrypha. New information is presented over the sources of translations, as well as the compilation approach of Slavonic writers, which reproduces a new version of the texts. The copies of the Slavonic texts are published in the supplement. The typology of manuscripts is supported by plectograms produced in the Repertory of Old Bulgarian Literature and Letters (http://repertorium.obdurodon.org/).

Author(s): Teodor Lekov / Language(s): Bulgarian,Egyptian (Ancient)

"Amduat – Text of the Hidden Chamber" is an ancient Egyptian esoteric book that describes and magically recreates the journey of the Sun God to Duat (the Realm of the Dead). The book has been recorded on the walls of the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings - it contains the names of the inhabitants of the afterlife, their sacred images and spells to overcome the obstacles in this journey. It is a secret doctrine taught by the Egyptian king and his companions. It appears for the first time in the middle of the second millennium BC, and its tradition is preserved until the sunset of Egyptian civilization. The book is a magical means of immortality, and with its help one goes the same space cycle to his resurrection as the Sun God on his night journey to the new sunrise. The edition contains an introduction, a translation from Ancient Egyptian and a commentary on the book. It is published for the first time in Bulgarian.

Изследвания върху корупцията във висшето образование в България

Author(s): Georgi Dimitrov,Petya Kabakchieva,Dimitar Blagoev,Pepka Bojadshieva,Vassil Garnisov,Georgi Ganev,Ivan Hristov,Valentin Dantchev,Martin Gramatikov,Elena Stojkova / Language(s): Bulgarian

"This book presents an analysis of the first, and in this sense unique empirical sociological survey representative of all higher education institutions in Bulgaria (except those under the jurisdiction of the Interior Ministry and the Defense Ministry) at the faculty level. The survey covered 31 universities and all their 147 faculties in 12 cities, based on a sample that is exhaustive with respect to higher education institutions and their faculties, and typological with respect to students and teaching staff. The sample included full-time second-, third- and fourth-year students, and habilitated and non-habilitated members of teaching staff – a total of 1,313 students and 283 members of teaching staff. The survey used two standardized anonymous questionnaires – one for teaching staff and another for students – that included a common set of questions for both groups and specific questions relevant to the respective group. It was conducted in May 2004. The purpose of the survey and of the analysis is not to exonerate or accuse the academic community of corruption. The purpose is to see whether the problem of corruption exists in the academic community and, if it does, to identify the institutional conditions for its existence and, consequently, the institutional possibilities for its elimination. That is why the approach applied in studying corruption was institutional, connecting corruption with a specific type of institutional practices in the public sphere that result from abuse of uncontrolled power. The analysis shows that the problem of corruption in higher education exists as part of the informal culture of the academic environment, and that the gravity of this problem is judged differently by the key participants in the educational process: students are the most critical, followed by non-habilitated members of teaching staff, whereas habilitated members of teaching staff are the most satisfied with the status quo. This means that perceptions of the problem are determined by academic status which, as the analysis shows, is constituted above all as power status. In the respondents’ perceptions the phenomenon of corruption is certainly not limited to bribery only, but includes various forms that are specific to teaching staff and students as well as the administration. However, the numerous forms of corruption are grouped around two basic elements of the educational process: firstly, examinations, which are rated first both by teaching staff and students; secondly, admission to university, involving both entrance examinations and transfer from one university or discipline to another."

Архив за средновековна философия и култура

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Bulgaria

The Archive for Medieval Philosophy and Culture / Archiv für mittelalterliche Philosophie und Kultur is founded in 1994 by Tzotcho Boiadjiev and Georgi Kapriev with the idea to offer an integration centre for all researchers in the field of medieval thought (with an accent on philosophy). It represents a forum, where the issues of the research field could be freely discussed and expressed in their specialized language and strict norms. The second aim of the Archiv is to introduce translations of shorter medieval tractates and texts of Latin and Byzantine authors. In this respect is built up an international editorial board with representatives of various centers for medieval studies, which allows more intensive work between medievalists not only within the South-Eastern European region, but all over Europe. Since scroll three (1996) Andreas Speer joined the chief editors. Since December 2000 is the Archiv the official organ of the Institute for Medieval Philosophy and Culture with director Tzotcho Boiadjiev. The annual includes texts in various European languages, but mostly in Bulgarian and German. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Editors in Chief ----------------------------------- Tzotcho Boiadjiev (Sofia), Georgi Kapriev (Sofia) and Andreas Speer (Köln) Editorial board ------------------------------------ John Demetracopoulos (Patras) Wouter Goris (Amsterdam/ Köln) Andrei Plesu (Bukarest) Pasquale Porro (Bari) Stefan Sanjakoski (Struga) Bogoljub Šijaković (Beograd/ Nikšić) Carlos Steel (Leuven)

Българите. Социологически погледи

Author(s): Petar-Emil Mitev / Language(s): English,Bulgarian

The book concerns the fundamental questions set by the founder of Bulgarian sociology Ivan Hadjiiski: Where are we coming from? What have we gone through? How far have we reached? Where are we going? Sociology is a science in which the person puts his imagination and heuristic potential. Sociology is a craft, in the practice of which the outcome depends on the mastery of the techniques and methodologies, the correct observance of rules and procedures. Sociology is a business that requires certain resources and also can reproduce or increase them. Sociology, however, is something else; it is not only a knowledge of society, but it is a public activity. It loses its meaning beyond the public realization or changes it if this realization does not correspond to the scientific credibility.

From the position of modern linguistic theories, it is now possible to rethink or challenge the opinions, views and theoretical expressions posed more than half a century ago. Undoubtedly, however, Alexander Teodorov-Balan contribution remains a place in the history of Bulgarian science and education. - Prof. Ph.D. Vasilka Radeva- Prof. Ph.D. Vasilka Radeva

Българска лексикология и лексикография

Author(s): Vassilka Radeva / Language(s): Bulgarian

“Bulgarian Lexicology and Lexicography” is a result of the lasting interest of V. Radeva in semantics of the words as the main language unit. It does not only lean on lectures and lecture courses in Leipzig, West Berlin and Saarbrucken, but also it contains a wealth of information that gives the opportunity to create interest in further lexicological issues. Built on the theoretical foundations and achievements of modern lexicology, the work reveals the character of the word as a nomination unit, which through its speech realization performs the communicative function of language. The presentation of word formation is consistent with the role of the derivative word in structuring the lexical system and clarifying the link between word-forming and lexical meaning. Semantic connections in the lexical system are addressed in their development and modification to reveal the dynamic nature of vocabulary. The creation of new lexical units, the elimination of outdated words and meanings, as well as the acquisition of a foreign language vocabulary are clarified as adaptation of the vocabulary to the communicative needs of the spokespersons of the language. Included lexicography section contains information that shows the close relationship of lexicology with lexicographical theory and practice. Designed primarily for philology students, this work will be useful for anyone who seeks to learn and use the Bulgarian word(s) correctly.

Български тълковен речник

Author(s): Vassilka Radeva / Language(s): Bulgarian

The present “Bulgarian Encyclopedic Dictionary” is addressed to all those who are interested in the word enriching of the modern Bulgarian language. It covers mainly the commonly used vocabulary, whose correct use in speech is an important prerequisite for building and enhancing the language culture. The interpretation of the words is short and sparing with the aim of accurately presenting their lexical meaning, making the use of a one-word lexicography booklet easy and convenient. The inclusion of the foreign language vocabulary that has entered the Bulgarian language in the last decades gives an opportunity to realize its place and role in enriching the Bulgarian vocabulary, considering its use in the speech practice. There are also new words and meanings that reveal the dynamics of the Bulgarian lexical system without reflecting individual and professional uses. The Bulgarian vocabulary is intended for all the Bulgarian language spokesmen who are not indifferent to the correct understanding and the correct use of the words.

„The Prince” was written by Niccolo' Machiavelli in the 1500s. It has continued to be a best seller in many languages. The Prince is a classic book that explores the attainment, maintenance, and utilization of political power in the western world. Machiavelli wrote The Prince to demonstrate his skill in the art of the state, presenting advice on how a prince might acquire and hold power. Machiavelli defended the notion of rule by force rather than by law. Accordingly, The Prince seems to rationalize a number of actions done solely to perpetuate power. It is an examination of power-its attainment, development, and successful use.

This book is the result of a two-year journalistic investigation that traces the history of Corporate Commercial Bank from its origin to its bankruptcy (1994-2014). The investigation was conducted on the basis of dozens of meetings with direct participants or witnesses of the events, representatives of state structures, political parties, business, regulators. In the process, hundreds of official and informal documents have been analyzed. Access to information by Bulgarian and international organizations has been requested many times. The collected facts, data, documents, and exclusive testimonies included in this book contain for the first time conclusive evidence of political corruption in Bulgaria. The aim of the KTBfiles project is to show the genesis of the "CCB model" (Corporate Commercial Bank model) and the technology of its expansion to magnitude, which pressed all key state institutions to the wall. The book explores the circumstances that made this vicious model possible, as well as the mechanisms for its eradication. This makes the investigation much more comprehensive, multi-layered and important than the chronology of bank bankruptcy, whether it is the largest in Bulgarian history. This qualitative journalistic investigation answers not only to the question #WHO but also to the questions how, why and especially what follows if we stop asking and live permanently with civil indifference and cynicism.

Из говора на село Драганово

Author(s): Rumen Stoyanov / Language(s): Bulgarian

The gardening in Hungary owes much to three Bulgarian settlements: Lyaskovets, Draganovo, Polikraishte. Two museums (in Budapest and Lyaskovets) testify to the importance of this link in Bulgarian-Hungarian relations. Draganovo is a village in Gorna Oryahovitsa Municipality, in Central Bulgaria. Draganovo is known in the area for its farms and vegetable gardens. Due to the fertile soil around the village, it is one of the main producers of cabbage and tomatoes in the central/northeastern regions of Bulgaria. After World War II gardeners from Draganovo has been dispatched to Hungary and other parts of Europe to help rebuild the land and make it fertile again. The river Yantra flows through the village. The river contributes for the village's fertile soils. In this book, you will find specific words, part of the dialect of speech from the village Draganovo, collected in a dictionary by Rumen Stoyanov.
