Summary/Abstract: The brochure aims to help citizens in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) better understand and more easily recognize, and respond adequately to hate crimes. The brochure also provides citizens with information on how to report hate crimes, and how and whom to contact to protect their rights. Even after 17 years since the end of the war, Bosnia and Herzegovina remains a fertile ground for the spread of hate crimes, especially those based on religion, nationality, ethnicity, and gender. The situation is further aggravated by the fact that the legislation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is insufficiently adapted to the new situation, which is why hate speech and hate crimes often go unpunished. Ignoring hate crimes undermines the security and stability of certain communities in BiH. Inadequate processing and punishment of hate crimes creates a sense of insecurity among victims and increases tensions within the community, opening the door to the escalation of new conflicts. Hate crimes in BiH represent a serious violation of human rights. Adequately understanding the impact of such incidents and punishing them is a task for both government institutions in BiH and civil society organizations and individuals in the community.
